 It was bad enough losing to the Orlando Magic in the playoffs last season.

But now to copy their uniforms?

Yecch!

That was the predominant response among the Bulls to the team's new road uniforms--black with red pinstripes--that were unveiled against the Magic here Tuesday night.

"I liked the old uniforms," said Michael Jordan, "but they didn't ask me. It does look like Orlando a little bit."

A little too much for Steve Kerr. "Don't ask me about the new uniforms. I'll get in trouble if I say what I really think."

But then Kerr did.

"We should not have to copy Orlando," said Kerr, who acknowledged the additional road uniform was merely a marketing ploy to produce sales of more merchandise. "I'm sure they'll sell a million in Chicago, but I wish those pinstripes weren't in there.

"I'm a traditionalist. My favorite uniforms are the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Celtics--teams that don't change. Can you imagine the Celtics with green and white pinstripes?"

"It gives us a real kind of jail-yard look," said coach Phil Jackson. "But it's how you play when you're in them."

"OK with me," said Scottie Pippen. "It's just another way to raise money."
