  1. Hi Patrick,
  2.
  3. The reason we don't allow thicker pieces to be cut is due to the increased fire risk when cutting thick material slowly, we have had (no small amount) of fires being started because of this. We came to the decision to enforce a limit on the thickness of materials for exactly this reason.
  4.
  5. So while yes, you are correct in saying the laser cutter will cut 12mm MDF, there is a logical reason behind not being allowed to cut thickness's greater than 10mm, cutting speeds below 10mm/s drastically increase the fire risk.
  6.
  7. The rules are there for a reason, don't ignore them or our warnings because you think you know better.
  8.
  9. Your ban will last for 1 (one) month, starting from 1st July 2015 and will expire on the 1st August 2015, this will be made public on the mailing list. You are free to contest this ban.
  10.
  11. Any use of the laser cutter by yourself during this time by using someone else's access card will result in the ban being extended to 3 months and a possible ban against the card used.
  12.
  13. This email will be forwarded to the Trustees for their consideration.
  14.
  15. The reason for this ban is as follows:-
  16. Not reporting a fire
  17. Cutting improper material after a formal warning
  18.
  19.
  20. Kind regards,
  21. Henry "Yetifiasco" Sands
  22. On behalf of the Laser Cutter Maintainers.
