  1. With multiple devices, btrfs normally needs an initramfs to perform a device scan. It may be necessary to modprobe (and then rmmod) scsi-wait-scan to work around a race condition. See using Btrfs with multiple devices.
  2. With grub and a single disk, you might not need an initramfs. Grub generates a root=UUID=… command line that the kernel should handle on its own. Some people have also used GPT and root=PARTUUID= specs instead [2].
