プレイされる前にこの説明書をお読みいただきますと、より一層楽しく遊べます。正しい使用法でご愛用ください。
We at Konami wish to thank you for purchasing "Contra".
If you read this instruction manual before playing, you will get more fun out of gameplay. Please get in the habit of using the game properly.

「サウンドセレクト機能付！！」
このソフとには、サウンドセレクト機能が付いています。タイトル画面時に、ＡＢボタンを同時に押しながら、ＳＴＡＲＴボタンを押すと、サウンドセレクトモードに入り、ゲームミュージックを楽しむことができます。＋コントロールボタンでカーソルを動かし、曲を選んでください。Ｂボタンでスタート、Ａボタンでオフできます。ＳＴＡＲＴボタンで元のタイトル画面に戻ります。
"The Game Comes with a Sound Select Function!!"
This game has a Sound Select Function built in. At the title screen, while simultaneously hitting the A and B buttons, push Start. This will take you into the Sound Select Mode, where you can enjoy the music from the game. Using the D-Pad you move the cursor to select songs. The B Button starts songs, and the A Button stops them. Hitting the Start Button will return you to the title screen.

ストーリー
Story

西暦２６３３年、地球上は科学技術の進歩により、自然と科学がうまく調和した平和な世界へと姿を変えていた。しかしその裏側では、誰も予期せぬ異変が起こりつつあった。いち早くその異変に気づいた地球海兵隊司令部は、極秘に調査を続けるうちに、それがエイリアンによる人類滅亡計画であることが判明した。海兵隊に所属するビル・ライザー上等兵とランす・ビーン上等兵はその恐ろしい事実を知らされると共に、エイリアン壊滅の任務命令を受けた。二人のコントラはすでに要塞島と化しているガルガ諸島の内部へと向かった。
In the Year 2633 AD, thanks to the advancement of science and technology, nature and science had become harmonious. Thanks to this, Earth was at peace. However, something strange had been going on that no one expected. The Earth Naval Headquarters had been conducting secret research and quickly confirmed that aliens were planning the destruction of the human race. Lance Corporals Bill Rizer and Lance Bean were told about the aliens' plan, and were given the order to wipe out the aliens. Their Contra mission is to take place at the Galga Islands which are now being used as the enemy's island stronghold.

コントラとは、熱き斗魂を生まれながらに持った、ゲリラ戦術の達人に与えられる呼び名である・・・・・・。
"Contra" is a word used to describe those who have a natural passion for battle and are masters of guerrilla tactics.

警告、エイリアン接近！

「遊び方」
"How to play:"

地球侵略をたくらむ「エイリアン」の要塞島に侵入し、破壊することが君の任務だ！
Your mission is to stop the aliens who plan on invading Earth by infiltrating their island stronghold and destroying them!

敵の基地にあるセンサーを破壊することがポイント。パワーアイテムを有効に使いこなし、敵地へと進め！
Destroying the sensors within the enemy base is a main objective. Use Power Up Items effectively and proceed through enemy territory!

各エリアの最終センサーを破壊できればステージクリアだ。
If you destroy all of the sensors at the end of each level, the stage is cleared.

Ｉコントローラーでビル・ライザー上等兵（１Ｐ）、ＩＩコントローラーでランす・ビーン上等兵（２Ｐ）を操作せよ。
With Controller 1, you control Lance Corporal Bill Rizer (Player 1). With Controller 2, you control Lance Corporal Lance Bean (Player 2).

二人同時でプレイが可能。力を合わせ、敵から地球を救え！！
You can play two person co-op mode. Join forces and save the earth from the enemy!!

＊ゲームを始める前に一人プレイが二人同時プレイの選択をします。
＊ゲームオーバー後にＣＯＮＴＩＮＵＥかＥＮＤかの選択をします。（ＣＯＮＴＩＮＵＥは３回までできます。ＣＯＮＴＩＮＵＥでゲームオーバーになったエリアからスタートできます。）
Select Button
*Choose one player or two player co-op before the game starts.
*Choose "Continue" or "End" after a Game Over. (You get three continues. Using a continue lets you start at the area where you got the Game Over.)

スタートボタン
＊ゲームをスタートさせる時に使用。セレクトボタンでセットしたゲームが始まります。（スタートデモをとばしたい時は、もう一度ボタンを押してください。すぐにゲームに入れます。）
＊ゲームオーバー時にＣＯＮＴＩＮＵＥかＥＮＤかの決定をします。
＊ゲーム中に押すとゲームにポーズがかかり、もう一度押すとゲームが始まります。
Start Button
*You use it to start the game. You start the type of game that you set with the Select Button. (You can also hit it once during the demo play to start the game).
*Decide on "Continue" or "End" at the Game Over screen.
*Hit it once during gameplay to pause the game, and once more to unpause.

水中の操作法

水の中では＋コントローラーを下方向に押すともぐり、左、右を押すと、それぞれの方向に泳ぎます。
Ｂボタンで攻撃しますが、下方向への発砲はできません。
Ａボタンでのジャンプは水中ではできません。岸までたどりつくと＋コントローラーの操作で陸にあがる事ができます。
Controls While Submerged in Water

While in the water pressing down on the D-Pad causes you to dive. Hitting left or right on the D-Pad will cause you to swim in that direction.
You can still use the B Button to fire, but cannot fire downward.
You cannot use the A Button to jump while in water. Once you reach the shore, you can use the D-Pad to get back on land again.

３Ｄ画面での操作法

＋上方向に押すと・・・前進します。
＋左・右を押すと・・・・それぞれの方向に横移動します。
＋下方向に押すと・・・伏せることができます。

各ステージ共にＢボタンで攻撃、Ａボタンでジャンプします。
３Ｄ画面では前方にのみ攻撃発砲します。
3D Stage Controls
*Pressing Up on the D-Pad will cause you to walk forward.
*Pressing Left or Right will move you horizontally in that direction.
*Pressing Down causes you to lay down.

Just like every other stage, you can use the B Button to attack, and the A Button to jump.
In 3D stages, you always attack forward.

＊スコアはステージクリア及びゲームオーバー時の画面に表示されます。
エリアによって画面のスクロールが縦、横、３Ｄと切り替わります。
*Score is only displayed at the Stage Clear and Game Over screens.
The Stage type changes between Vertical Scrolling, Side Scrolling, and 3D depending on the area.

パワーアイテムの種類
Types of Power Up Items

Ｍ－マシンガン。連射可能。
Ｆ－ファイア・ボール。火の玉弾。
Ｌ－レーザーガン。破壊力大。
Ｒ－ラピッドビレッツ。弾の速さが加速。（レーザーと同時には使えません）
Ｓ－スプレットガン。５方向拡散砲。
（）－スペシャル。画面中の敵が全滅。
Ｂ－バリア。一定時間無敵。（点滅します）
＊３Ｄ画面での赤い敵やパワーアップカップセル、小型センサーを破壊するとパワーアイテムが飛び出します！
M - Machine Gun. Rapid-fire capability.
F - Fireball. Bullets of fire.
L - Laser Gun. Incredible destructive power.
R - Rapid Fire. Speed of your projectiles increases.
S - Spread Gun. Shots scatter in five directions.
() - Special. All enemies on screen are destroyed.
B - Barrier. Player become invulnerable for a short time (while the player is blinking).
*If you destroy the red enemies on the 3D stages, Power Up Capsules, or the tiny sensors, a Power Up Item will fly out of them!

使用上の注意
Pre-use Precautions:

精密機器です。強いショック、極端な温度条件下での使用や保管は避けてください。また、分解は絶対にしないでください。
This game is a delicate product. Please avoid strong shocks or use/storage in extreme temperature. Also, never disassemble this product.

故障の原因となりますから、端子部に触れたり、水にぬらしたりしないでください。
Do not touch any of the pins or submerge the product in water, as doing so will break it.

カセット交換の際、必ず電源をお切りください。
When you'd like to switch game cassettes make sure you have turned off the power to the system first.

エキスパンドコネクタ内（端子部）へ指や金属片を入れないで下さい。故障の原因となります。
Do not put your fingers or pieces of metals in the expand connector (where the pins are) because doing so will break the product.

落丁・乱丁を除き、この「遊び方」の再発行はいたしません。
In the case that there are missing pages or pages out of order in this manual, we will not reissue it.
