  1. I recently bought the entire series at Walmart for about $15. I had the first season on dvd but lost it. Anyway here are some things I read about the show many years ago. The show actually shot close to 3 years, not two. It consisted of 5 seasons, each 13 episodes. 65 total episodes. There would have been more, but Nick had decided to cancel all shows that were shot on location because they were more expensive. Every show since then has been done within studios. Such as the old Nick Studios. The entire show takes place within one long summer. Yep, one very long summer. There were two buildings on the set that were habitable. The main lodge with Mr. Ernst's office and the lounge/break room area. They both had air conditioning. The break area was designed to be sturdy in case of storms, or other acts of nature. Both buildings had running electricity. There was no swimming pool on the set, that was shot at the Tanque Verde resort and is still there. The resort asked Nick to leave the sets intact for some reason. The only two things taken down were the guest lodge/bell tower area and the break room building. The guest lodge was fake, had no interiors. On the show you would sometimes see the guests walk in and out of this building that had a nice lawn and I believe a water fountain out front. The bell tower was connected to it and was built sturdy enough so as to shoot scenes with the cast sitting in it. The Resort didn't use the other buildings except for storing lumber and other crap, but they did use the corral for their own horses. The boys and girls bunk houses were not habitable. Actually the girl bunk house was nothing more than a mock up. It was not properly built and years after the show ended it collapsed. A now defunct website used to have images of the collapse bunk house. The boys bunk house was used for both the boys and the girls scenes. They would rearrange furniture and take down certain walls to change the looks. The door for the girls bunk was on the right side, the boys was on the left. So to make it appear as if it were two different bunk houses there were removable walls that they could change. This can kind of be seen on the back side of the bunk house in the video. The stairs behind the mail boxes went through a opening that led right outdoors. this can be seen on the video and there was also a secret hidden door in Ernst's offce. Also seen on the video. Lake Benjamin was man made and more of a pond. On the show they used various camera angles to make it seem larger. The filming for the final season ended right before the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. The cast went home not knowing if the show was coming back. David Brisbin who portrayed Mr. Ernst was a very fatherly figure to the rest of the cast and actually stuck up for them whenever he felt they were being mistreated. David got the feeling that something was up and called some friends he had at Nick, trying to find out if the show was canceled. Eventually he found out. But he also found out that the calls to the kids were about to go out. David knew that this would probably ruin the kids holidays, basically told they were out of work. So he contacted the Nick execs and convinced them to wait until after the holidays. Which they did. Obviously a few went on to do more tv and movie work, while others seemed to have decided to stay away. This was obviously one of my favorite Nick shows next to Salute your Shorts. Only thing I heard about the location was that it was an entire girl's camp.
