  1. Let's start with answering a few quetions.
  2.
  3. 1) Why would anyone in my team except for the jungler prefer smite over other summoner spells?
  4.
  5. Advanced objective control, additional GPM by farming jungle camps, cheap and costeffective jungle item enchantments, useful smite upgrades.
  6.
  7. 2) Okay, I'm convinced. What's the practical use of having smite on non-jungler roles? Tell me more about pros and cons.
  8.
  9. As an expample I'll use toplane bruiser/tank champions with Skirmisher's Sabre/Stalker's Blade + Cinderhulk as they're the only ones we've seen with smite in high-rank soloQ/LCS so far.
  10.
  11. Cons:
  12.
  13. * Flash deficit
  14.
  15. Flash is the most universal summoner spell in League of Legend. It's so useful that you still prefer to pick it over ignite/exhaust on champions with low-cd jumps/blinks like Ezreal or Le Blanc. Depends on the situation you can use it in both offensive and defensive ways.
  16.
  17. * Early game becomes harder.
  18.
  19. Before you buy enchantment you'll have hard times wasting 850g on Hunter's Machete and upgrading it which gives you absolutely no combat stats (HP/resists/damage).
  20.
  21. Pros:
  22.
  23. * Useful smite upgrades
  24.
  25. If you're a tank or a bruiser whose purpose is to sit on damage dealers, you do want to have their damage reduced by 20% or their movement spead slowed by 20% for 2 seconds. Also they deal some damage, but I'd not say that 184 true damage at level 18 from Chilling Smite is enough. You will also gain addition money for large monster kills increasing your GPM.
  26.
  27. * Cheap and costeffective enchantments
  28.
  29. In matter of combat stats, which is HP in case of Cinderhulk, you get to the "100% gold efficient" point at less than 600 bonus HP. In addition to tons of HP Cinderhalk gives you Immolate passive that will burn your enemies to death.
  30.
  31. * Advanced objective control
  32. Two smites are always better than one. You can secure drakes, you can steal Nashor, you can invade enemy buffs. It's very easy to find a good use of second smite.
  33.
  34. * Jungle camps
  35. Not only you can gain even more level and sustain advantage by taking jungle camps at level 1 than before, but with agreement of your jungler you can take all of Krugs/Gromps very fast and without losing any HP.
  36.
  37. 3) I got it. Cinderhulk is OP. Why not just nerf it?
  38.
  39. Becuase it's not overpowered for junglers. After three years of working on improving jungle, Riot has finally reached the so-called "strategic diversity". Nerfing Cinderhulk will only lead tank junglers to get vanished from meta again like they were for three years. If you don't want to see that happening read the following solution.
  40.
  41. Solution:
  42.
  43. **If you pick Smite your starting gold will be decreased to 75. Instead, you will have Hunter's Machete in your inventory since the beginning of the game.**
  44.
  45. So, the idea is to force ones with Smite to buy Hunter's Machete at the begging of the game.
  46.
  47. Pros:
  48.
  49. * Meta junglers are not affected.
  50.
  51. * Strategies like double jungle are not affected.
  52.
  53. * Any use of jungle items outside the jungle (including possible use of other enchantments on other lanes) is prevented.
  54.
  55. Just imagine laning with only Hunter's Machete and two health potions at the start. It's a nightmare. Not only you'll get screwed by your opponent 1vs1, but enemy jungler will sit on your lane forever. It'll be very easy to kill you or force you under the tower and dive (especially if enemies decided to swap lanes).
  56.
  57. Cons:
  58.
  59. * To be found.
  60.
  61. Let's discuss it, fellow Summoners!
