  1. Hello Marival - first of all, thank you for your ticket and for submitting an appeal. All players are certainly welcome to appeal a decision and ask for general clarification in instances of a ban or mute. I am happy to lend my thoughts on the issue as presented and to offer comments which I hope bring some degree of clarification to the issue and punishment as assigned.

  3. I'd like to try and address your points in the order in which they were presented, since there are several dimensions and abstractions which you've brought up. In particular, you've raised several points which I'm happy to examine: how the guild name would be construed as offensive and on the order of complying with the request made of you by GM Boreas in game.
  4.
  5. On the first and primary crux of the issue is the guild name of "Unskilled Gays." The points which you have raised, while certainly civil and at points very understandable, unfortunately don't entirely square with our rules on a couple of different planes. At the heart of the matter is the combined implication around "Unskilled Gays" as a term and how one could very possibly find themselves offended by the name. I think in these cases a simple reasonableness test might be the most straightforward way to explain this. Said differently, would a reasonable person find the name "Unskilled Gays" to be offensive in some manner? Arguably, though you've mentioned that the guild is a joke name, not everyone might interpret it that way, nor would they potentially know your intentions behind that particular guild name.

  7. It might be worth invoking a parallel example here: if the guild's name were "Lazy Blacks" or "Ridiculous Jews" one could perhaps see in a different way how it could be offensive to some people. While I do believe that your intention behind the name isn't meant to be offensive or homophobic, it's really the combination of those two words together that have a slightly inappropriate naming convention. In particular on TalonRO's server rules, this would fall under the following domain:
  8.
  9. Quote
  10.
  11. Do not use character names with offensive or inappropriate words in them, that might directly or indirectly offend other players.
  12.
  13.
  14.
  15. This rule certainly is reasonably extended to guild names with inappropriate names - and at the heart of the matter is on that which would directly or indirectly offend other players. I think this is sort of the lynchpin of the issue.
  16.
  17. To the other points around the name existing for some time, I can understand why the decision would come as feeling perhaps sudden; however and ultimately, time isn't really a suitable proxy for acceptability in this instance. The point moreover is that a GM - and in particular, the administrator of TalonRO - noticed the name and took exception with it on the basis of TalonRO's Server Rules. I wouldn't also say that TalonRO's rules are out of synch in any way - rather, they are suited and designed to foster the kind of environment on TalonRO to which the standards and spirit of the server are made manifest.
  18.
  19. That all being said, your concerns are certainly heard and I can understand why you'd want some clarification here. At the end of the day, GM Boreas noticed the name and cited a server rule violation. Compounding this issue, as you freely acknowledged, was that the request to disband the guild wasn't complied with at the point of the ask.
  20.
  21. To that end, I certainly have to defer to GM Boreas on his decision making on this one. He really is the only person who would be able to take this any further or to a resolution. However, I'm happy to share what I perceive as the touch points on this issue and hope that they offer something in the way of an explanation.
  22.
  23. As always, please don't hesitate should you have more questions or concerns - or if there's simply that I or any of the others can be of assistance with.
  24.
  25. Best wishes,
  26. - GM Howl
