- Tuesday in The City
- the weight of buildings is crushing
- i picture skyscrapers and domed government buildings
- set on my shoulders like some form of guards
- the city is armor that every stranger wears
- we’re trained to look forward even as
- our legs rest uncomfortably close,
- two animals so removed from nature, even though
- i’m pretty damn sure there’s no mammalian creature
- that will tolerate such closeness from another
- entity with teeth.
- there is nothing human in brick
- there is nothing organic in metal
- there is nothing i trust about the government,
- or its buildings.
- i stare out the window at the DMV-
- as if, if i stop searching long enough,
- it will swallow me and i will forget the sky.
