What is love but misery
The thing that's taken much from me
It brings a sort of wondrous high
Until it proves to be a lie.

And what is love but lies and hate
A bond of liars doomed by fate
The envy of those who don't know
Or who ignore it's darkest low.

A game played by those who don't love
Perversion of gifts from above
Those few who love in innocence
Are quickly given common sense.

Why do we play this fateful game
Hoping the beast itself to tame
We've had our share of misery
We should by now quite clearly see
And yet we don't, and why don't we?

Some seek only carnal fun
And leave heartbreak when they are done
Some are quick to change their minds
And the love they had now finds
That his love found someone new
And wondered what he was to do.

Some see love as just a game
And care not if a heart they maim
They play around with trusting hearts
They break them and spit on the parts
And turn what's sacred into hell
Make love true hearts truly repel
But maybe it is just as well.

In short it is just hell divine
It is pain that is clearly mine
Love hurts me and it hurts you
And it hurts others too.
