  11. For those looking to squeeze as much out of the content as possible,
  12. or learn how to accomplish certain tasks. This guide is still kind've
  13. a WIP, but it should cover most of what you need to know.

  38. Sydney is encountered during "Stealing Independence" in the National
  39. Archives, and can be permanently recruited with this mod once you
  40. reach the end of the quest and receive your reward. You MUST take
  41. Sydney's offer during the quest, otherwise she will permanently
  42. disappear and cannot be recruited.
  43.  
  44. Once Abraham Washington gives you a reward, Sydney will strike up
  45. a farewell conversation with you. Choose options that do not involve
  46. telling her goodbye or to get lost, and then request that she join
  47. you when you are given the opportunity. You must then attempt to
  48. persuade Sydney to join you. There are a few different ways that you
  49. can approach this:
  50.  
  51. - Pass a SPEECH Check of Easy(40) difficulty.
  52. - Take the SCROUNGER perk.
  53. - Take the EXPLORER perk.
  54. - Take the GUN NUT perk.
  55. - Have an INTELLIGENCE score of 8 or higher.
  56. - Have completed "Power of the Atom" and acquired a house.
  57. - Have more than 3000 caps on your person.
  58. - Have a BARTER score of 40+ and more than 2000 caps on you.
  59.  
  60. All of the above will unlock additional dialogue options, each of
  61. which is guaranteed to persuade her.
  62.  
  63. You CANNOT let Sydney leave and expect to recruit her later. By
  64. the time you ask her, she will have already settled into her new
  65. life as an ammo vendor and will not want to leave it.
  66.  
  67. Once she has joined you, she'll give you a personal radio the
  68. next time you speak to her. It can be found with your apparel and
  69. can be hot-keyed. This will allow you to conveniently manage her
  70. as well as fix an issues of her becoming lost or stuck.

  72. Selecting the House option gives you a semi-unique conversation if
  73. you follow through on the promise -- a conversation you'd otherwise
  74. have to wait until you found her Dad's note to hear.
  75.  
  76. Choosing an option that shows you have similar interests as her will
  77. also provide a single point of Trust.

  81. If you installed SYDNEY FOLLOWER with Stealing Independence already
  82. completed, then she will approach you as if you had just completed
  83. the quest. This is not the way the mod is intended to play, but it's
  84. a loop-hole I deliberately made for the convenience of the user.

  91. 1. HELPFUL HOBBIES
  92. -------------------------------
  93. A few exchanges of dialogue, and Sydney will be willing to spen her
  94. down-time fixing your guns.... provided you have the parts.
  95.  
  96. First, you need to ask her about her Ultra SMG at least once. Then,
  97. a new dialogue option will appear, in which you can ask her to help
  98. repair your weapons. If your trust is high enough (15, which can
  99. easily be obtained with a few conversations), then she will agree.
  100. Otherwise, you'll have to ask again once she's warmed up a bit more.
  101.  
  102. Once she agrees, you can ask her to require your equipped weapon
  103. once-per-day. The option appears in the same menu as all dialogue
  104. that lead up to this feature.
  105.  
  106. In order to have her repair your weapon, she needs scrap metal. It
  107. can be in either your inventory or her's, but she needs one piece.
  108. If you both have scrap metal, she will use the player's by default.
  109. She cannot require your weapon unless it's a ranged weapon --
  110. explosives and melee weapons are excluded.
  111.  
  112. In the current build, Sydney's repair strength is calculated
  113. as follows:
  114.  
  115. +12% initial repair strength
  116. +3% if she has studied at the Citadel (see the next quest)
  117. +3% per Dean's Electronics Magazine that she's read.
  118. +1% per Guns and Bullets Magazine that she's read.
  119.  
  120. The maximum repair strength she can acquire, therefore, is 27%
  121. if you give her all 6 required books. Nearly a third of any
  122. weapon's health, and all you need is a bit of scrap metal.

  125. 2. LASER TECH AT THE CITADEL
  126. -------------------------------
  127. This quest is triggered by bringing Sydney to the Citadel and then
  128. talking to her. After she remarks on the technology, you can offer
  129. to ask for permission so that she can stay there and study it.
  130.  
  131. Go and talk to Elder Lyons. He will agree to your request. Initiate
  132. conversation with Sydney once more. She'll thank you and then rush
  133. off to get started immediately. She will become engrossed in her
  134. study and blow you off, though you can chat with her long enough to
  135. ask if she's happy and get a time estimate on when she'll be done.
  136.  
  137. The quest will take 2 in-game weeks to finish -- note that if the
  138. date is accelerated via script (such as in Point Lookout or Broken
  139. Steel) then those days WILL NOT be counted. Resting/waiting for the
  140. duration will work if you are in a hurry to recover her.

  143. +65 Energy Weapons Skill (for Sydney)

  145. +10 Cooking XP (for Sydney) if she is already cooking.

  151. 3. WASTELAND'S FINEST CHEF
  152. -------------------------------
  153. Approach Sydney with a generic pot and pan in your inventory, then
  154. ask her if she would try cooking. Simply make a decent case for
  155. yourself and she will agree. Avoid pissing her off. The pot and pan
  156. will be added to her inventory, and each day you may have her make
  157. 1 meal if both items are still on her.
  158.  
  159. Note that you will NOT be able to persuade her unless her trust is
  160. at least 20. Build it up through gifts and conversations.
  161.  
  162. By default she can only make squirrel stew and Iguana Shish-kebabs,
  163. though she can expand her menu if you give her recipes found
  164. throughout the wasteland. While she will serve you stew for free,
  165. all other meals will require you to supply key ingredients.
  166. Overtime, she will accumulate cooking XP that will allow her to
  167. churn out larger serving sizes. The more complex the meal, the more
  168. XP she acquires. Other quest can also provide meager amounts of XP.
  169. All cooking XP is shared... the experience of making a pie is just
  170. as good for making better stew.

  172. Her recipes include:

  174. * Squirrel Stew - Unlocked for free. The player does not have to
  175. supply any ingredients.
  176. 1 Bowl >> (40XP) >> 2 Bowls >> (80XP) >> 3 Bowls

  178. * Iguana Shish-kebabs - Give her an Iguana-On-A-Stick and she will
  179. turn it into several Iguana-Bit Shish-kebabs.
  180. 2 Sticks >> (45XP) >> 3 Sticks >> (90XP) >> 4 Sticks

  182. * Mirelurk Cakes - You must give her the recipe found in the
  183. refridgerator of the Anchorage Memorial cellar. The key can be found
  184. in the same area as The Tenderizer. Sydney will require mirelurk
  185. meat of any quality, though the higher quality the better the
  186. output.

  194. * Mole Rat Wonder Meat - You must find Ryan Brigg's written notes,
  195. on a table next to a mole rat in his hideout in Jury St. Tunnels.
  196. You will have to give Sydney some mole rat meat and a tube of
  197. wonderglue. One of you must also have some scrap metal on hand,
  198. though it is not used up in the cooking process.

  201. * Mississippi Quantum Pie - You must complete "The Nuka Cola
  202. Challenge" and then persuade Sierra Petrovita to part with the
  203. recipe. While there is a speech check, it can be repeated multiple
  204. times -- the only penalty is the length of which you listen to
  205. Sierra's screeching. Once you have the recipe, you must give Sydney
  206. a bottle of Vodka, Nuka Cola Quantum, and some flour.

  221. Sydney is integrated into a few quests from the original game,
  222. resulting in a few additional dialogues and options.

  228. While in town, Sydney will voice her suspicions with you after
  229. talking to at least one person.
  230.  
  231. When you enter either the basement or shack, she will freak out
  232. and ask to leave immediately.

  234. Afterwards, you may have a small conversation with her about
  235. the actions of the two families.
  236.  
  237. If your character is a cannibal, you can admit this to Sydney
  238. after the events of Andale take place. This won't have a drastic
  239. effect, though it is possible to piss her off during the
  240. conversation.

  243. Wasteland Survival Gude

  245. At the end of the quest, you may present the book to Sydney as a
  246. gift, giving her certain bonuses to skills depending on how well
  247. it was written and what the style was.

  251. The Nuka-Cola Challenge
  252. --------------------------------
  253. When Ronald Laren asks you to collect Quantum for him, you may
  254. instead suggest that Sydney would be willing to "have fun" with
  255. him if he finds some for you. This is basically the same as the
  256. Black Widow perk option, except guys have access to the option.
  257. After this, Sydney will jokingly confront you about it.

  265. Sydney can be given a number of items as gifts, most of which have
  266. practical benefits. You can give her something by entering her
  267. discussion menu, then picking the option that says "I have something
  268. for you..." The following can be given to her:

  271. A Note for Little Moonbeam
  272. - This is a carry-over from Sydney's personal quest in the
  273. original game. The option has been moved to her gift menu for
  274. the sake of consistency.
  275. - Found in the Statesman Hotel during "Reilly's Rangers"

  279. - Remains in Sydney's inventory until removed. Bonuses will vary
  280. based on the content and quality:

  284. - Stealth Focus: +2% Critical Chance, +4% Damage Resistance

  338. Sydney can receive a haircut from various NPC's in the Wasteland;
  339. the same NPC's that can give you one.

  341. In order to give her a haircut, stand next to one of the following
  342. characters:

  346. * Joseph - from Little Lamplight

  354. Then, enter her discussion menu and pick "Is it alright if (so-and-
  355. so) gives you a haircut?". You may select from the list of
  356. available styles. This has no gameplay effect, and is merely for
  357. aesthetical purposes.

  365. Sydney has a lot of dialogue as part of her features. Most of it has
  366. specific conditions and triggers attached, in order to prevent you
  367. from having to sift through a huge grocery list of options. For those
  368. looking to get some additional content out of Sydney, try following
  369. these steps, then striking up conversation with her.
  370.  
  371. The feature is still very much WIP, so there are many more encounters
  372. to come:
  373.  
  374. * Promise to let her stay at your house, and then make good on your
  375. word.
  376.  
  377. * Ask to borrow her SMG (after giving her the holotape from her dad)
  378. and then return it once you're finished -- via dialogue, not her
  379. trading screen.
  380.  
  381. * Give her a book.
  382.  
  383. * Take her to the Citadel's Laboratories.
  384.  
  385. * Ask her about her work in the Citadel once she's done.
  386.  
  387. * Proposition her to Ronald Laren in Girdershade.
  388.  
  389. * Go hang out in the center of Megaton and listen to the Confessor
  390. preach.
  391.  
  392. * Hire Bittercup as a follower via a mod. To watch some sparks fly,
  393. have her VERY close by as well.

  395. * Visit Andale and talk to the strange residents.

  397. * Bring Sydney into either the shack or the basement in Andale.

  399. * Have the Cannibal perk when doing the above.

  413. New in 2.0 is a trust factor, which represents how close you and
  414. Sydney have grown since you joined up. This variable increases
  415. if you do nice things for her, but it also goes up if you just
  416. interact with her -- listen to her backstory, her opinions on
  417. various things, and give her a decent home.
  418.  
  419. There are too many opportunities for trust gain in the mod to
  420. list. Most increment the value by 1 or 2. Getting her access to
  421. the Citadel and finding her Dad's holotape will give tremendous
  422. boosts -- enough to cover the requirements for all current
  423. requirements.
  424.  
  425. So you either build her trust slowly and gradually, or quickly
  426. by performing miracles. Your choice.
  427.  
  428. Currently, Trust affects the following things:
  429.  
  430. - How willing she is to repair your guns. (10 needed)
  431. - How willing she is to cook. (20 needed)
  432. - If she will allow you to take off her armor. (30 needed)
