Dance Evolution Setup [Guide only]

System Requirements

*Win7 embedded or win 8 (x64 preferable). ***WINDOWS XP WILL NOT WORK, WINDOWS 10 DIFFICULT TO GET WORKING (especially seems to have problems with updated gameKDM.dll file)***
*4GB RAM; 8GB recommended (a few people report it running fine at 2GB)
*Any version 1 kinect (Kinect for Windows, XBox 360) works. Most 360 Kinects have a proprietary connector; will need to buy an adapter (<$10, search amazon).
XBOne Kinect does not work

Physical Setup

Kinect should be placed 2m (approx. 6'6") above the ground and at a 20 degree angle downward (Use Kinect Explorer-D2D to change the "Sensor Setting")

Play area should be 2m from the kinect (Approx. 6'6"). If you want to use 2 players, approx. 12 feet of width is needed.

Unplug other game controllers; people have reported having IIDX/SDVX controllers connected can cause the game to not boot.

Software Setup

Download all of the following files and place them in your game folder, overwriting any existing files:

Reboot after installing the above software.


For the below instructions, Z:\ is whatever drive/directory that you have the data in. For example, if you placed the torrent files in C:\Bemani\DanEvo\Data, then in step 1 you would navigate to C:\Bemani\DanEvo\Data\KDM-001\launch\boot_factory.bat.

1) Edit the first section of Z:\KDM-001\launch\Boot_factory.bat to the location of the HDD data:
set PRJ_DRIVE=Z:
set PRJ_DIR=Z:\KDM-001
set CONTENTS_DIR=%PRJ_DIR%\contents
set DAMAC_VIEWER_FULLSCREEN=1
## change this to 0 if there are crashes or significant framerate drops

2) About 30 lines down, locate the line that begins with "modules\localstrap.exe". Make sure that line is as follows:


modules\localstrap.exe prop/bootstrap.xml arkkdmca a b -noio -noDRM -useUSB10Key


3) Set Z:\KDM-001\contents\modules\localstrap.exe to Run as Administrator (Right Click, Properties, Compatibility, last checkbox)

4) Make sure entire folder is not set to read-only

5) Run Z:\KDM-001\launch\Boot_factory.bat as Administrator

6) If prompted to set the clock, set the clock.

7) Turn off network and turn on free play.


To unlock additonal songs:

1) Go into test mode
2) Go into I/O check
3) Go into Input check
4) Enter the following on the 2P side: 6213275986575723518, then hit 1P start, 2P start, and the enter key (not all of these are required, but there have been conflicting reports of which one is needed).
This should unlock Wow Wow VENUS, Do the Evolution, and chu☆chu☆tonight, Sweet Rain, ちくわパフェだよ☆CKP, and 朧.
If you have difficulty getting it to register, try using the top row of numbers.


Default button mappings:

Q : Test button
W : Player 1 Start
E : Player 1 Left
R : Player 1 right
T : Player 2 Star
Y : Player 2 Left
U : Player 2 Right


Possible Errors:

Q: It tells me to set the clock on boot. What do I do?

A: Set the clock.

Q: I get error 5-1000-0003. What does it mean?

A: System can't see the kinect. Make sure you installed the two links above (DirectX SDK and Kinect for Windows SDK 1.7), check the power/USB cable for your kinect, reboot, and try again.

Q: I get error 5-1513-7000. What does it mean?

A: System can't detect card readers or buttons. Make sure your keys are mapped, check your cables, reboot, try again.

Q: When I try to run one of the .bat files, I get a screen that just says "An important file was copied. It reactivates" over and over. What does it mean?

A: The data folders are still set to read-only.

Q: It tells me to set my phone number. What do I do?

A: Enter your phone number.

Q: It keeps running in windowed mode instead of fullscreen. Help!

A: Make sure your Boot_factory.bat file has DAMAC_VIEWER_FULLSCREEN=1 set. If your files are not on the C: drive, try moving them to C:.

Q: I tried to install the DirectX SDK and I got error S1023. What does it mean?

A: It means the installer thinks you have a newer version of Visual C++ 2010 Redist. Run these commands from an administrator command prompt, reboot, then try again:

Q: I get error "[GS:WARNING] TEXTUREDATA : Not found TEXTURE DATA" or error 5-1699-0000 when I try to launch. What do I do?

A: Try changing your AppLocale to Japanese. Open Region and Language by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel, then Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Region and Language. Click the Administrative tab, and then, under Language for non-Unicode programs, click Change system locale. Select Japan. Reboot.

If this doesn't work, replace the updated /modules/gameKDM.dll file with the original file from the HDD data. If it works, re-download the updated gameKDM.dll file and replace it again. If it still does not work, reinstall windows and DanEvo. This sucks. Sorry
