  13. It was a normal day at home, and my friends were all asleep so I decided to play some Payday 2 without them to get some masks. You know, some easy leveling. I booted up the game, but something was strange. There was no fancy title screen, it was only black and it had "Press Start" in the chiller font. Something seemed wrong. Not one to be easily perturbed, I began to look at the lists of heists. But something was awry. I looked and there was a heist in blood red text. It said: '''DEAD MISSION (DO NOT PLAY)'''. I visibly flinched. Looking at the info for the heist, something was weird. Instead of saying "The Dentist" as the dealer, it said "The Devil". A strange typo, but I guess everyone makes mistakes. Looking down I saw the reward was 666 in game dollars. A chilling coincidence. Perhaps a dev inside joke? Anyhow, I picked Hoxton, the lovable British clown with his droopy purple eyelids.

  15. On the loading screen, it showed a picture of Roswell New Mexico. Could this be the work of the aliens? Maybe just a bug. Im sure it'll get patched out in the near future. Maybe a New Mexico based DLC? I think an alien DLC might be a little fun. Lost in reverie, I barely noticed my game had loaded. But something was off.
  16.
  17. Everything was hyper realistic. I play on an old Asus laptop, but my game was running at over 2,000 FPS. A feat not normally possible. It was at this point I thought something was definitely off. I heard a deep and static, glitchy, voice say "Alright, you need to break into the house, and assassinate the informant on the computer. He must be stopped." I thought this was a little wacky considering that there are no assassination missions in the game. Wow, a graphics update and a new mission type in one patch! Colour me pleased!

  19. I started in casing mode, where you cant use weapons and haven't put on your mask. I walked to the front of the house. A house that seemed oddly familiar. Must be a re used model. Maybe there wasn't a new patch after all... But my tenacity pushed me forward. I noticed some movement in the house, and panicked, putting on my mask. Something was wrong. The back of my mask said "God is dead" In big, bloody red smears. I started to sweat. The gun I pulled out was oddly weird. It had a sense of power to it, a realistic weight somehow. I couldn't even feel it but I knew it was strong. Kicking down the window, I pulled the trigger on what I thought to be a guard. It wasn't. It was a civilian, who reminded me of my mother. In a pretty pink apron, bedazzled, with long golden locks.

  21. I watched as those locks were parted by a lead bullet that tore through her skull like a hot nickel ball through a vat of butter. The brains flew out like a party popper and sprayed the kitchen wall. She made a groan, a death rattle, as she gurgled out a plea for life. I tried to call for my teammates, but I realized I was followed by no one. Oddly enough I head someone downstairs say "DALLAS, FOLLOW ME" in a British accent. Huh.
  22.
  23. Oh my god. I felt like I had actually killed someone. Oddly enough, I heard some noise downstairs. The silencer sounded more distant, and higher quality than usual. I shrugged it off. I needed the mask. Moving on, the house really clicked with me. I seemed to know the floor plan, the layout in general was very natural to me. I started stealing valuables off the shelves. Immediately the dark, cackling voice of the mission dealer broke the silence. "You do not need to take valuables. Only take the human's life." I sweated more sweat. I was getting very close. Something bad happened. Again. My character started to T model. A pose that looks like the heroic and brave Jesus H. Christ, cast upon the wooden cross in his time of trial. Frightening.
  24.
  25. I was sweating bullets. Not actual bullets. Water.
  26.
  27. Just as I opened the door to the informants room, I heard a creaking behind me in real life. Must be the dog. I saw him there, playing a game on his laptop. It was payday 2. What a nice insider joke to put in the game. I lined up the shot, it was easy and clean. I don't know what caused it, but right as I clicked left mouse, I glanced over to look at my TV, which was turned off. I like that way. But in the reflection I saw something that was not silly.
  28.
  29. Hoxton, the character I was playing as, was behind me. Gun to my head. I realized in that split second that I had broken into my own house in the game, and shot my mother. I tried to scream, but I already had given the command to shoot the gun. My blood splattered against my monitor screen. The blood spelled out "Heist Over". I started sweating. I had died. I guess what they say about video games making you violent is not all lies. Maybe, one day, you'll think twice before booting up Grand Theft Auto V.
