  83.         A: Japanese roguelike with an overworld instead of a single dungeon. Death isn't permanent, and the game can be played in many different ways, depending on what you decide to focus on. It is mostly a sandbox. Plenty of humor is also present, both intended and unintended.

  91.         A: Noa, the original creator left the project in 2010. Modders continued where he left off and the game is rebranded as Elona+. Elona+ adds one additional continent, South Tyris, which players can explore after beating the main quest of Elona, and one unfinished zone, Lost Irva, which continues where South Tyris ends.

  103.         A: The game considers the player already knows the basics of roguelikes (like the need to eat and how to move), but the absence of permanent death (optional) means you have a wide room for mistakes and there are not many complex commands.   107.         A: The main quest takes you through several unique dungeons, and beating the last boss gives you a score and the game's credits. After that you're free to continue playing as normal, like other sandbox games. You can also completely ignore the main quest if you want to. Elona+ continues the main quest by letting the player journey to South Tyris, and then Lost Irva.

  122.         During the character creation process, you'll pick an alias, race, class, feats, and then roll for stats. Your alias is for fluff, and is what other characters will refer to you by.
  123.         Each race and class have special innate abilities and modify your starting stat range.
  124.         Class can be changed later on, but race cannot. The creation page itself will tell you what the advantages to each race are, but the class's secret abilities are unlisted. At a glance, these are:

  126.         Warriors have a 5% chance to do an additional melee attack
  127.         Thieves have 100% critical against enemies that do not detect them.
  128.         Wizards reduce MP consumption by 10%.
  129.         Farmers have an additional 1/7 chance to trigger decapitation with weapons with the effect.
  130.         Predators have 10% increased critical chance.
  131.         Archers have 10% increased chance to hit.
  132.         Warmages have 5% increase to spell cast chance.
  133.         Tourists lose 2x as much gold to thieves.

  141.         Some easy starts are Yerles Gunner, Juere Thief, or Elea Wizard. Each class will give you some experience in ranged, melee, and magic combat. Firearms can be bought at the Cyber Dome near Vernis.        
  142.         Farmers and Performers are also very good choices for experienced players; the former has early access to gardening and cooking, which will enable you to obtain powerful stat-boosting foods earlier, and the latter has access to a great money-making ability and can easily obtain a significant number of allies with high charisma.

  144.         You should choose feats you can't get in other ways during character creation. Improved stamina, speed, life, and luck are useful.
  145.         Exorcism can help an inexperienced player greatly. Natural Leader is very good for minion masters; it both buffs all pets and trains Charisma, and while it isn't a great starting choice, it is invaluable later in the game. If you are a fighter and/or have high Constitution, Fire Breath is good.
  146.         The quartermaster feat might grant a player great items in their salaries. Avoid feats that grant simple skill levels or flat bonuses to stats.

  148.         You won't get much done with your first characters. Don't be afraid to experiment to find out what does and doesn't work for you.
  149.         If you decide you want to start over or feel stuck, you can make a gene with a companion at soulmate status and have your child inherit all of the non-precious equipment the parent was carrying.

  154.         Attributes operate on a potential system. The higher your potential, the quicker you will gain attribute points. They are divided into body, spirit, and misc stats.

  158.         Strength- Determines HP, the amount of things you can carry (.5s per 1 STR), and adds .1x melee damage for every 5str.
  159.         Constitution- Determines HP, the amount of things you can carry (1s per 4 CON) and adds 1 stamina per 5 con
  160.         Dexterity- Determines your chance to hit, evade chance, and reduces physical damage taken.
  161.         Charisma-  Determines prices, how much people like you, and the number of pets you can have. (2 + 1pet per 5cha).
  162.         Speed- The most important attribute in Elona. Speed determines how many times you can attack before an enemy, or vice versa. It does grow on a potential system like the other stats, however this potential is hidden. Drink potions of speed upper or hermes blood to increase. Swimming and traveling train speed.  You can spend AP in South Tyris to directly increase your speed.

  166.         Magic-  Determines MP. Also determines effectiveness of debuffs and offensive spells.
  167.         Learning- Determines MP, your skillpoints per level, and the amount of bonus exp you have a chance to earn (elo+ only, 2x at 0 LRN, 5x at 900)
  168.         Will- Determines HP, MP, SP.  Also determines the effectiveness of buffs and heals.

  173.         Life- This is a hidden modifier that determines your HP. It can be increased with Hero Chese or Rubynus equipment. Base life is determined by starting race.
  174.         Mana- This is a hidden modifier that determines your MP. It can be increased with Magic Fruit or Dawn Cloth equipment. Base mana is determined by starting race.
  175.         Luck- This is a hidden modifier that determines drop rates, quality, and rarity. It also causes you to have more "good" random events and less "bad" randoms the higher it is. It has a slight effect on fishing, greater evasion, and eye of mind, and can cause rarer enemies to spawn more often. It can be increased with Happy Apples, and Mica equipment, as well as the luck feats. The player always starts with a base luck of 50.
  176.         Fame- Fame is gained by completing quests or clearing dungeons. The higher your fame, the stronger the enemies you face will be. It also determines what quests you have available to you. It can be raised or lowered by completing and failing quests, respectively.
  177.         Karma- Karma is an overview of how 'good' or 'evil' you are. At low karma, guards will attack you and your monthly bills will be higher, and vice versa.
  178.          The highest karma is naturally 20, but you can increase this cap to 40, or drop it to 0 based on certain quests. These are irreversable and cancel each other out. They can only be done once each per character.
  179.         Karma can be improved by turning in quests, burying corpses in the random events, and turning in wallets and suitcases you find to guards. It can be lowered by killing friendly townsfolk, stealing, drugging food, and other deviant actions.

  184.         Platinum Coins are currency gained mainly from finishing quests and clearing dungeons. They can be used to train skill potentials, and also to teach you new skills.

  187.                 -Utility-
  188.         Cooking - Cooked food gives more stat gains, lasts significantly longer before rotting, and always weighs 0.5s. Get it early.
  189.         Disarm Trap - Lets you disarm traps in dungeons. Not too terribly useful.
  190.         Fishing - A good way to get food. Also used to gain favor with Ehekatl. Complements Cooking.          
  191.         Gardening - Helps you raise and plant seeds which can give you useful items like herbs, vegetables, fruits, rods and gemstones. Highly reccomended in general.                  Gene Engineer - Combine pets to give the host increased stats, new skills, and body parts. Very important for minion masters.      
  192.         Investing - Investing in shops increases the quantity and quality of items sold. Highly reccomended in mid-game.  
  193.         Lockpicking - Opens locked doors and chests. Bashing open locked doors can cause stat damage. Requires lockpicks, keep plenty on hand.
  194.         Mining - Dig walls. Only reliable once highly leveled. Gives ores and acorns.          
  195.         Performer - Fast and easy to make cash/platinum, after an initial painful grind to level it.
  196.         Pickpocket - Allows you to steal items from npcs/towns, item weight is limited to half your strength.        
  197.         Riding - Ride a pet to move at its speed, if you have enough skill. Accuracy and casting chance are lowered, but penalties decrease with higher skill.

  200.                 -Passive-
  201.         Anatomy - Monsters are more likely to drop corpses. Complements Cooking.  
  202.         Control Magic - Prevents your allies from being hurt by your aoe spells.
  203.         Detection - Helps you find hidden passageways and traps.
  204.         Faith -  Determines your favor cap with your god. Favor gives you direct bonuses to certain stats and skills depending on the god.
  205.         Healing - Passively increases hp regeneration. Very useful.
  206.         Literacy- Helps you read books with fewer negative effects.
  207.         Magic Capacity - Lets you overcast spells for less health. Useful in a pinch.
  208.         Magic Device - Helps you use rods, scrolls and potions more effectively. The level you can dominate from rods of domination is determined by this stat.
  209.         Meditation - Passively increases mp regeneration.
  210.         Memorization - Helps you learn spells from books.
  211.         Negotiation - Lowers NPC prices and raises sell price for your items. Get it early.
  212.         Sense Quality - Helps identify item qualities, trained while carrying unidentified equipment. Get it early.  
  213.         Stealth - Helps you go through dungeons without drawing aggro. Also helps you pickpocket.  
  214.         Swimming - Increases your speed when wet. It trains speed. You can carry a magaqua to be permanately wet, however the skill does not train while holding it.      
  215.         Traveling - Earns you experience for random skills as you travel on the map. Trains speed too. Get it early.  
  216.         Weight Lifting - Raises Weight Limit. Trains while you're burdened. Get it early.

  218.                 -Combat-
  219.         Armor Proficiencies - Increases the effectiveness of each armor type. Light/medium/heavy.
  220.         Casting - Increases the success chance of casting spells. Get it early if you plan on fighting with magic.  
  221.         Dual Wield - Lowers penalties for attacking with two or more weapons at the same time, with chance of a third offhand attack.      
  222.         Evasion - Chance to dodge regular attacks.
  223.         Eye of Mind - Increases your critical chance, very noticable at a high skill level.
  224.         Greater Evasion - A second evasion chance that works on enemy criticals and will save your life at high skill levels.        
  225.         Marksman - Increases the damage multiplier for all ranged weapons. Get it early if you plan on fighting ranged.          
  226.         Tactics - Increases the damage multiplier for melee and thrown weapons. Get it early if you plan on fighting melee.      
  227.         Weapon Proficiencies - Increase your damage multiplier and accuracy for each weapon type.

  229.                 -Crafting-
  230.         Alchemy - Allows you to craft potions. High levels allow you to craft potions of potential.      
  231.         Capentry - Allows you to craft furniture and rods. High levels allow you to craft lightsabres.      
  232.         Jeweler - Allows you to craft scrolls. High levels allow you to craft scrolls of superior material.          
  233.         Tailoring - Allows you to craft light equipment. High levels allow you to craft miracle level light armors.

  236.         ---Obtaining Companions---
  237.         You can obtain companions through monster balls, scrolls of ally, spells or rods of domination, or through wishing for ally.

  239.         ---Raising Companions---
  240.         Feeding them herbed food, potions of potential and visiting the doujou are all important to raising a pet. Gene engineering can be used to give your pet any limbs it might be missing, as well as teaching them new skills and raising their stats. It's better to start with a low level pet, and gene engineer it with pets a few levels above it until the pet is your desired level.
  241.         Pets gain a very large bonus to the effects of food, so herbed herbs are very useful in gaining mulitple statups in one feeding.

  243.         ---Pet Evolution---
  244.         Once a pet reaches friend status, if it has an evolution you can use the respective heart item on them to gain permabonuses to your pet. If the pet gains a bit flag (such as float) through the evolution, any subsequent evolutions will maintain the bit flag.

  246.         ---Pet Romance---
  247.         Once your pet is at soulmate status you can propose to them for marriage. This will get you a number of items, some platinum, and a potion of cure corruption. They can also cook for you in the mornings, and sleep with you on occassion.

  251.         ===Basic Information===                                 [basic]
  252.          Read the in-game help by pressing '?'.

  254.         ---Etherwind---
  255.         Etherwind may only blow on the first 10 days of months multiple of 3 (3, 6, 9, 12). Never attempt to travel within these days. It can even start blowing as soon as months change, so be prepared for sudden Etherwind.
  256.         Shelters pass the time quickly and feed you. At home time passes normally and you need your own food; for this reason, installing a permanent shelter in your home is a very good idea. You are unsafe anywhere else, even in town. If you find yourself in town during the Etherwind, make a beeline to the Innkeeper and ask to enter the shelter. You will automatically eat some of the food in your inventory and will have access to one (random) skill book and a training machine.
  257.         Even a few turns outside in Etherwind can corrupt you, so seek shelter immediately once it starts. Items that protect you against Etherwind aren't 100% effective. You should eventually find a shelter even while wearing one, although you'll be fine as long as you don't stay outside during it on purpose.

  259.         If you find yourself corrupted, all players start with 10 casino chips. Wait for a lucky day and go to Palmia. Here, you can play blackjack in the casino. At 4+ wins in a row (on one chip), you will get a cure corruption potion. It's advised you identify it first, on the off chance it's cursed.  Blessed potions heal more corruptions than regular ones.
  260.         Other sources of ether corruption are wisp corpses, ether hedgehogs and background ether. There are some places in the game that have constant Etherwind, so make sure you stock up on protective gear and cure corruption potions.

  262.         ---Gods---
  263.         North of Palmia you can find the Truce Grounds. Here, you can chose to worship one of eight gods. Each god gives you a bonus ability or passive, as well as rewards for offerings. You get an additional boost to that god's favored skills that is based on your faith and favor. You can check favor by using the nine god sign

  265.         ---Your Home---
  266.         Your home will be the central hub of the game. You can customize the layout by interacting with the home board, and here is where you will get your taxes every month, as well as your salary. If you hire a maid you can hire other useful characters such as merchants, barkeeps, wizards and healers.
  267. There are several sizes of house, with the basic one you start out in being "cave". Small castles come preequipped with seven servants, however you probably want to hire your own.
  268. You can also get storage houses, farms and ranches you can set out on the world map near your home, which allow you to store items, grow herbs and other plants, and breed monsters for food, money, or gene engineering fodder.

  270.         ---Guilds---
  271.         There are three guilds in the game, and both require a small quest to enter.

  273.         ---Dungeons---
  274.         Dungeons are randomly generated features on the world map.
  275.         There are several that show up across all games (The story dungeons, the puppy cave, pyramid, fort of chaos, etc)
  276.         The danger level will show you a rough idea of what level enemies you will be facing, the boss will always be on the higher end of this.
  277.         You can, however, find enemies out of place, so always be very careful if you're doing a higher level dungeon.
  278.  
  279.         ---Quests---
  280.         Quests are special requests that in most cases are not repeatable. Most towns have at least one,and they may require you to take on a very difficult fight or boss. Three of these are available in Venris,  Thieves Hideout, Puppy Rescue and Putit Infestation.
  281.         It's advised to not take them on until you are comfortable with the game.
  282.  
  283.         ---Jobs---
  284.         Jobs will be your basic source of income and platinum for a very long time. You can access them from the job board in towns, and they give rewards based on difficulty. The easiest ones to start out with are "Before it's too late!", "Ecologist", "A Small Token", "Book Delivery" and "I want it!".

  286.         ---Cargo---
  287.         Cargo is a lucrative, but dangerous, way to gain money once you're on your feet. Be prepared to fight off rogue bosses at every step on a cargo route.
  288.         Once you can reliably kill the rogue bosses, or have pets that can, consider taking trade routes to pass the time by.
  289.        
  290.         An example route would look something like this:  
  291.         Noyel -> Port Kapul -> Venris -> Noyel -  Buy christmas trees and snowmen in noyel, sell them in kapul. Buy tuna and manboo in kapul, sell the tuna in venris and buy noble toys. Sell the noble toys and manboo in noyel.

  293.         This is a very long route, and will pass a good chunk of ingame time.
  294.         Make sure you pay attention to your taxes as to not neglect them during this- you can dump cargo in your home or in storage houses.
  295.         If you do it late enough in the year, you should be around Noyel by the time the Jure festival starts. Seven League boots are your best friend.

  297.         ---Wishes---
  298.         Every so often you can get a wish from drinking out of wells or finding a rod. It's important you don't waste these, as they're very rare. The more you get, the rarer they become as well.
  299.         Good wishes for beginners include:
  300.  
  301.         Happy Bed - The best bed in the game. Gives a lot of positive effects every night when you sleep in it, including 1-5% potential gains.
  302.         miromi - The secret experience of kumiromi gives you an extra feat for every 10 levels you have.
  303.         vindale  - A vindale cloak is a very strong cloak that also protects you from etherwind.
  304.         speed ring - Very useful. can give a sizable chunk of speed and other bonuses.
  305.         aurora ring - A ring that'll stop you getting stranded by weather.
  306.         Seven league boots - They give you a sizable bonus to speed as well as making your overworld travel much faster.
  307.         sure map -  Treasure maps can give incredibly nice artifacts, platinum and small medals.
  308.         evolution - Potions of evolution will give you 1-3 positive mutations, which can range from stat bonuses to immunities to certain elements.

  313.         === DOs and DON'Ts for Beginners===                     [begin]
  314.         ---DOs---
  315.         The most important thing to do as a beginner is to identify your equipment before wearing it. Early on, when you don't have the health to survive it, a ### or above bloodsucking equipment can prematurely end your character, leaving them unable to crawl out of their home.
  316.         Collect engagement jewelry. You can make a very large amount of change material scrolls very early on with the jeweler skill. By making the engagement jewelry rawwork, you can eat the jewelry for bonuses to Charisma. Failing that, you can give it to npcs or companions you need to gain affection with quickly. It's not reccomended to give it to pets you actually want to equip properly, but if you're just after cure corruption potions from marrying things, it can be useful in a pinch.
  317.         Do pick a God early. The advantages are extremely apparent early on. Opatos and Jure are both very good Gods early on.
  318.         For dungeons, have at least one scroll of Return and Escape on you at all times. They should not be cursed, and you can't use them if your cargo is overburdened.
  319.         Carry at few scrolls of Holy Veil. This will help with certain enemies that cast Death Word, which will kill you in 20 turns.
  320.         Do pick up either the teleporting feat/spell, a rod of teleport, or a few scrolls of teleport. This can get you out of some very hairy situations, especially Rogue Boss encounters.
  321.         Use your hard-earned platinum to learn new skills instead of training them. The earlier you learn all of your skills, the better off you'll be later.
  322.         Do bless items in stacks, rather than one at a time. You can get holy water by dropping bottles of water on your god's altar.
  323.         Do drink blessed potions of restore body/spirit. They give you a year long (or until death) buff to the stats they restore.
  324.         Do try to finish the puppy cave as soon as you feel comfortable with it. The reward you get from it allows you to keep four stacks of food inside of it that don't rot.
  325.         Keep your karma high, this means you pay less taxes at the beginning of a month.
  326.         Hiring a maid in your house early is advised, since the random adventurers and stat trainers that can show up are very useful.
  327.         Noyel has a holy well that you can drink out of that slowly replenishes charges over the months. This well has a high chance of giving you potential gains and wishes.
  328.         Try to get the small medals in each town as soon as possible. An early precious item like the Diabolo or the Shield Tonfa can really help you out in the early game. Take these to the workshop to the east of Palmia and trade them.

  330.         ---DON'Ts---
  331.         Don't kill little sisters! Although the mana and health gain from the corpses might seem good, Big Daddies become increasingly rarer the more sisters you kill.  It's better to collect them and turn them in, in the long run.
  332.         Don't read spellbooks or ancient books in your home. You can potentially summon a very powerful creature you're not equipped to deal with. They don't despawn in your home.
  333.         Don't take delivery or escort quests until you know every city's names and where they are.
  334.         Don't drink potions randomly. Some have some very serious effects that can lower your resistances or stats.
  335.         Don't dump potions into the Noyel Holy Well. This will permanately corrupt it and you'll lose the bonuses from it.
  336.         Don't use your small medals on things you can get easily like diaries and bottles of water. Hermes blood is very expensive in the early game, and Speed Uppers are much easier to find than small medals.

  346.         Strength- Melee combat and eating corpses train this. Hands and beetle corpses are the most effective.
  347.         Constitution- Mining is a very good way to raise constitution, as well as through # or ## bloodsucking equipment. Horse corpes are the most effective to eat.
  348.         Dexterity- Combat trains this. Eating fish raises this.
  349.         Charisma- Performing and investing will raise these quickly. Try eating Putit corpses and raw engagement jewelry.
  350.         Speed- Potions of speed upper, traveling, and swimming will all help raise this stat. You can also spend AP in south tyris to get a sizable, permaboost.

  364.         Cooking - Having a vegetable and fruit farm, or a bunch of fruit trees will let you train this with minimum effort.    
  365.         Disarm Trap - Disarming traps in dungeons trains this. No real point in doing it actively.
  366.         Fishing - If you have a cyber house, you can set down a water tile and fish in the comfort of your home. Otherwise, just fish in Vernis. 's'earching pools in dungeons will also train it
  367.         Gardening - Levels very quickly from doing harvest time quests. 's'earching vegetation in dungeons will train it.
  368.         Gene Engineer - Buy horses in Yowyn and fuse them together into a horrifying horse centipede.  's'earching camp leftovers in dungeons will also train it.
  369.         Investing - Invest in chunks of 50. Hiring and firing in your home keeps you a steady stream of low-level merchants to invest in. Food vendors are the cheapest.    
  370.         Lockpicking - Gamble chests and opening doors in dungeons train this.
  371.         Mining -  Just dig walls, man. 's'earching ore veins in dungeons will also train it.
  372.         Performer - Summon monsters near the little sister shopkeeper in the little sister mansion north-northwest of Palmia. She'll summon swarms of level 1 little sisters for you to preform for without risk of getting interrupted. Just 'teleport other' her out of the house once she's done summoning.
  373.         Pickpocket - Pickpocketing trees in hunting quests works well if you have high str.
  374.         Riding - Ride lolis/horses/etc and hit things. Riding trains on every melee hit you do to an enemy while mounted.

  378.         Anatomy  - The only means of training this is to kill things. It levels very slowly, so get it early.
  379.         Control magic - Casting aoe spells in range of your allies train this. Equip them with a multitude of fire resistant gear and go to town with fireballs.
  380.         Detection - Looting sampling spots trains this as well as the other relevant skill.
  381.         Faith - Preaching trains this, as well as saint dreams and scrolls of faith.
  382.         Healing - Equipping very weak bloodsucking equipment and wandering around fo r a while will train this.
  383.         Literacy - Reading books and scrolls.
  384.         Magic Capacity - overcasting spells train this. The more negative your mana goes, the quicker this trains. Be very careful not to kill yourself training this.
  385.         Magic Device - Rods of magic missile are very effective for training this quickly, especially once you have the ability to drain and recharge wands.
  386.         Meditation - Casting spells and then regenerating mana. Try training it in conjunction with magic capacity.
  387.         Memorization -  Reading more difficult spellbooks trains this.
  388.         Negotiation - The more expensive the item you buy/sell, the faster it trains. Boost the potential high before buying and selling to reduce the amount of gold you need to spend.
  389.         Sense Quality - Wandering around with an inventory of unidentified items train this.
  390.         Stealth - Trains every turn you spend around another npc.
  391.         Swimming - Run around in the rain, or in pools of water. A cave with a water floor and a stack of food helps with this.
  392.         Traveling - Walk around a bit from town to town. Running cargo routes can get you money while doing so.
  393.         Weight Lifting - Trains passively when you're at burdened status. Reading books is the only speedy way to train it.
