  1. The solutions proposed in report 1830 serves to kill the stormtouched bash route and place all the eggs in the omen basket. Respectfully, I think this is a mistake, as it takes away a vital tactic from the Shaman offence. Stormtouched bashing serves, at best, as a hinder to force the target to stop attacking and heal, or, at worst, a noobcheck. The omen kill and reclamation routes take a significantly longer set-up. Stormtouched bashing is an option for where a long set up is an unaffordable luxury.
  2.
  3. Stormtouched bashing requires 2 rounds to stick stormtouched. Thereafter, it takes 3-4 rounds of non-stop bashing to kill. These are its requirements. Non-artifacted eq time is 3.02s per vinelash and boosted lightning.
  4.
  5. Similar to putting it on, it takes 2 rounds to remove stormtouched. Depending on the method, it usually takes less time to cure than it does for the Shaman to put it on. Even if it doesn't, stormtouched will be gone before the follow-up 3-4 rounds can be delivered. By then, the Shaman would have wasted 4 rounds (2 rounds putting it on, and 2 rounds dealing damage that will be healed up). The target would have spent 2 rounds curing stormtouched. Knowing to cure stormtouched puts the target ahead of the Shaman.

  7. As a side observation, everyone gets one free shield against the Shaman. Most people don't use it wisely. Many people also forget to cure hidden sensitivity from the cougar spirit. Cougar only gives kelp and salve affs, sensitivity can be assumed and cured. This is a problem of awareness and class understanding, but a common one I see in practice. It's the reason a lot of people melt under the tactic.

  9. In the worst case, walk out. Using stormtouched bashing means there isn't much in the way of hindering. It's a bit like brute retribution, except with more counterplay by letting you take it off.
  10.
  11. All that said, the above counterplay depends on having the tools to remove stormtouched. Admittedly, not every class has that. I sometimes use my dagger instead where the class doesn't have a quicker way to deliver paresis. Ezalor also says that it's janky to expect people to hit themselves with paresis. I somewhat agree, because I don't think CONFIG DISREGARDING was meant to be part of the combat mechanic.

  13. Therefore, my alternative solution would be to give everyone the ability to take stormtouched off in 6s. A RESIST STORMTOUCHED command, like writhe, that allows you to remove stormtouched. Split it into two commands (2x3s) if the 6s downtime seems potentially exploitable. The omen kill route has enough counters that putting all the eggs into it would reduce the intricacy of Shaman combat. This solution would instead keep things at the status quo and provides a degree of counterplay against the stormtouched bash route.
