It's mostly obscure local emocore. The deeper you get into emocore, you find that a lot of stuff isn't that memorable. Heroin, Evergreen, and Gauge are worth checking out though. Gauge was an especially big influence on Cap'n Jazz.
The Hated and You and I are worth checking out too.

You should check out What It Takes To Move Forward by Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely estate). It came out in 2009, but has a 90s emo sound

I like some old '90's emo, like American Football and Sunny Day Real Estate, and a few others.
I'm really into the screamo scene from the late 90's/early 2000s. Saetia, Orchid, Off Minor, Gospel, shit like that.

All superior bands. Why don't we ever get posts about bands like Moss Icon or Indian Summer round here? That AF album gets waayyyy too much attention on, hell even a fucking ROS or Embrace thread would be more welcome than this.
Not enough Jerome's Dream either.

Thanks for reminding me about them. I'm gonna listen to the comp after I listen to this Saccharine Trust record. Ian's lyricism is still pretty rust at that point though (hilariously sometimes).
Anyways, I don't think a band will ever topple Cap'n Jazz as my GEBOAT (though algernon may come close considering how their next lp is). Seriously all the energy of emocore and the poppiness of later 90s pop-punk influenced emo, along with Tim Kinsella's awesome lyricism and great vocals.
