  1. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi | Mary barks, "OKAY SHINKI FANS, SHUT UP FOR A SECOND!" two claps, "I'm Mary and we've got ourselves another fight in Round 1 of the Busou Shinki Battle Rondo! Serena the Brightfeather, third place contender from the Techno Urbania tournament circuit last year, is facing off against Frontline's latest model, Tora, the Strarf Mk.2 Lavina! One's got a needle, they've both got swords, I WANNA SEE /BLOOD/, DAMNIT." cough. "Running commentary will be provided on (1x)..." Hands slamming on desk, "NOW /FIGHT/, YOU WORMS!"
  2.
  3. --
  4.
  5. Oh dear, time for her first match to begin! This is nerve wracking... and Jinxel isn't even the one competing!
  6.
  7. Arriving at the arena with Selena standing upon her head with needle at the ready, the Bad Luck Pony is trying her very best to keep the panic swelling in her chest down as she escorts her little nurse to the Visualizer. In truth, she feels like she wants to puke, but she's trying to be brave for the sake of Selena.
  8.
  9. Selena, having better nerves than her Master (or, well, circuitry) takes the roaring crowd and the roaming cameras in stride and she enters, her parts gleeming in the light as she readies herself for battle.
  10.
  11. --
  12.
  13. Far be it from Shizune Nakamura to be late on the night of her temporary shinki's first match! And she is indeed not late, appearing tonight dressed as if ready for competition - even if she herself isn't competing. Wearing her usual brown qipao, the martial artist in glasses walks quite proudly, all smiles and waves for the crowds - with her right arm, of course. Her left shoulder is reserved for a very important passenger!
  14.
  15. --
  16.
  17. Tora is so hyped to fight that the idea of being late at all is utterly abhorrent. Shizune's punctuality is nothing if not greatly appreciated, because now she gets to stand atop her master's shoulder in traditional busou shinki style, staring down her opponent across the room as the two draw closer together on opposite sides of the visualizer. Armour on, helmet seated, arms crossed over her chest, if the little Lavina had a cape right now, it'd be billowing against a dramatic sunset.
  18.
  19. "There are a lot of people cheering for this one." The crowd's general leaning towards Serena doesn't go unnoticed. "That means I'll debut with style by defeating her!"
  20.
  21. --
  22.
  23. Vervi activates the Visualizer on random. The light and color swirls chaotically, before resolving into a Battle Field:
  24.
  25. SAKURA PEAKS
  26. A more air-combat oriented field. Barren stone peaks jut out from a floor of dense clouds. The mountains themselves are simple bare brown stone, shot through with cracks and crevasses that break up their otherwise simple triangular shapes. The central mountain peak is larger than the others, and home to the only vegitation visible in the field: A massive flowering cherry tree. Its roots wind through the mountain it calls home, and its branches stretch through the sky. Constantly shedding petals, it fills the air with a light dusting of pink snow that steadily disappears into the clouds below.
  27.
  28. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary says, "Both fighters have entered the arena. Looks like they're just sizing each other up for now. The signal hasn't been given just yet and I'm getting pretty annoyed, here. COME ON GET THE PLEASENETRIES OVER WITH ALREADY."
  29.
  30. Jinxel signals the start of the match!
  31. ...3...
  32. ...2...
  33. ...1...
  34.
  35. RIDE ON
  36.
  37. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi Mary says, "And it looks like the randomized field is ... Sakura Peaks! Mountains in the clouds, with giant flowering cherry trees! Oh this will be a great field for two skilled aerial fighters to just beat the jelly out of each other. There's the start signal! Say it with me, Shinki fans!"
  38. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary cheers, "Three! Two! One! /RIDE ON/!"
  39.
  40. --
  41.
  42. With the start of the match, Selena shoots out from the start position with her absurdly huge needle strapped to her back and her handgun in hand as she glides forward, staying low to the mountain side as she looks for signs of her opponent. It would probably be easier to spot her foe from on high, but that would also leave her dangerously exposed and without cover.
  43.
  44. On the outside meanwhile, Jinxel can't help but bite down on her lip as she watches the display screen and shifts around uncomfortably, "Oh dear... oh dear..."
  45.
  46. --
  47.
  48. 'This is perfect!' Tora thinks to herself, her eyes instantly sparkling at the change of scenery. The mountain clouds, the falling cherry blossoms, the clear blue sky; all of it the perfect backdrop for a battle to the death between samur- err, a battle between shinki! The Lavina model turns towards where she knows the starting camera is to give her master a big, stoic thumbs up, before the thrusters mounted on her back whine to life, burning at nearly full throttle as she lifts and takes straight to the air in direct opposite of her opponent.
  49.
  50. Which is to her advantage. The white of her armour broken up by streaks of red is hard to make out amongst a skyline so choked with cherry blossoms, giving her the tactical advantage in initiating the engagement. Spotting Serena deep below, tora wastes no time, pulling up sharply in a narrow loop and folding into a steep, high speed dive; blasting the falling flowers out of her way in a swirling vortex as she bursts down out of the sky with a blistering high speed kick from her powered exo armour, screaming "TOTSUGEKI RAIGEKIIIIIIII!" at the top of her little vocalizer!
  51. Tora does 10 damage to Jinxel with an Above Average hit.
  52. Tora hit Jinxel with her Victory goes to the swift, KIIIICK! moderate attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  53.
  54. --
  55.
  56. Shizune spends several seconds watching both the opposing shinki and the equine master backing her. The girl has enough years of tournament experience under her belt to size an opponent up quickly, and there is only one conclusion that can be drawn.
  57.
  58. The poor thing's entirely out of her depth.
  59.
  60. And so, as Tora lifts off her shoulder, the martial artist looks right at Jinx... and offers a warm, encouraging smile. 'It's alright,' it seems to say. 'There's no hard feelings here.'
  61.
  62. And then the match begins, and amidst clouds and sakura petals, two shinki begin. She can't help but give a little cheer of, "Go for it, Tora~!"
  63.
  64. --
  65.
  66. Selena's eyes dart from side to side as she tries to spot her opponent amongst all the rough terrain, and even checks the sky above... but by sheer fortune, the drifting clouds and falling petals provides Tora near perfect camoflague, and it';s only when she screams out her attack that Selena's head snaps up.
  67.
  68. To her credit, she does manage to raise her arms in defense against the blow, but her model line was never built with durability in mind. Brightfeathers and their ilk are built more for graceful movement, and the blow sends her flying back several feet before she regains control.
  69.
  70. SNapping up her handgun swiftly, Selena opens up with a pair of shots as she quickly backpedals towards the rocky terrain for cover.
  71.
  72. As for Jinxel... well, she's covered her eyes the moment the battle started.
  73.
  74. A brave pony she is not.
  75. Jinxel uses Double Tap weak combo attack on Tora.
  76. The attacks resulted in a series of, Above-average, and MISS strikes for a total of 3 damage.
  77.
  78. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary cheers, "Serena maneuvers but it's Tora who gets the first blow in! A swift kick to the everything! She's really showing off that speed. Selena takes it pretty hard! The Brightfeather tries to get some space with a few shots from her handgun. It's not a BAD idea, Strarfs are notorious in close range, but if you ask me that little gun isn't gonna do the trick.
  79. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary shouts, "MAKE HER BLEED! GIVE HER A /REASON/ TO STAY AWAY!"
  80.
  81. --
  82.
  83. The closeup cams can see Tora's expression suddenly going from stoicism to pure elation as she feels the satisfying thunk of her strike connecting, rattling up through her battleframe with the force of the impact. As the brightfeather goes sailing away, Tora's left hand brings up the twin scabbard unique to her model, and her right hand hovers over the hilt of the power-katana locked into it, her eyes closely following Serena's movements as she recovers.
  84.
  85. Taken a little off guard by how fast the, admittedly, more experienced shinki shakes it off, the first shot slams right into Tora's left shoulder guard, scorching paint and peeling metal as it is deflected away from her head. She reacts to the second trigger pull in a sliver of an instant, fingers wrapping around the grip of her sword and drawing the blade from its magnetic lock with a flash of red energy, connecting with the other bullet and flicking it away into the clouds below.
  86.
  87. "Nice try, but you wont escape that easily!" She lifts her left arm, and her armour frame mimics the movement, levelling the wrist mounted gatling at Selena's fleeing silhouette. The arena thrums with the steady *whumpwhumpwhumpwhumpwhump* of the heavy gun going off as a strobing line of burning tracers rakes across the mountainside after the brightfeather, churning up a considerable dust cloud behind her.
  88. Tora uses Pewpewpewpewpew! moderate combo attack on Jinxel.
  89. The attacks resulted in a series of, Direct, Graze, and Above-average strikes for a total of 14 damage.
  90.
  91. --
  92.
  93. Looks like Selena is outmatched both at close and long range, but even as bullets slam into her (admittedly thin) armor, she continues to backpedal, disappearing into the cloud of dust and debris that the raking chaingun has kicked up as it chews through the side of the mountain.
  94.
  95. Admits the cloud cover, Selena quickly holsters her handgun and pulls something off her hips before suddenly reversing direction and charging out of the cloud, quickly closing the range between them before thrusting both hands out.
  96.
  97. Woe be it for Tora though if she chooses to blow the sudden surprise assault though, as those objects she pulled off her hips are, in fact, defibrilators, each of which unleashes a massive jolt of electricity upon contact.
  98. Jinxel does 6 damage to Tora with an Average hit.
  99. Jinxel hit Tora with her CLEAR! *BZZZAP!* strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  100.
  101. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary says, "When Selena backs off, Tora just pulls out that forearm gatling cannon! That makes me excited! Time for some carnage! The Brightfeather's not liking THAT one bit! But where are you gonna go when the enemy's dangerous at all ranges? Looks like her choice is 'Get close'--HEY THAT'S NOT LEGAL USE OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT! ... But it's a damn fine weapon!"
  102.
  103. --
  104.
  105. Red pings light up in the center of Tora's combat software display as several of her rounds connect, that tiny bit of feedback stoking her excitement even higher. She blinks in surprise as Serena vanishes into the dust cloud, losing her focus at her opponent cleverly hides herself. Dropping her arm, she grips the hilt of her blade with both hands, settling into a hovering ready stance as she waits for the counter attack, willing to allow Serena to return fire so she doesn't waste energy shooting at nothing.
  106.
  107. Of course, Tora is expecting a more conventional weapon to come flying at her. The Strarf model visibly freezes up in confusion at the sight of a pair of defibrilator paddles, having no idea what they even are. She raises her sword to cut Serena down at arm's length, but that flinch gives the other shinki just the moment she needs, and a crackle of blue-white electricity flashes across the front of Tora's armour as she plummets like a zapped fly, crying out in alarm at her armour's unresponsiveness.
  108.
  109. For a moment, it looks like she's going to fall all the way out of the arena boundary. Any other shinki might have had their flight system totally fried by that. Front Line has paid top dollar for Tora's upgrades though, and a few feet from the fluffy white haze of clouds, her thrusters sputter back to life and she makes a sharp, right angled turn sideways, slowly climbing as she is momentarily put on the defensive. Cutting white trails through the air, she rolls onto her back, the right arm of her battle frame snatching the heavy revolver from its docking point at her hip and snapping off a few discouragement shots at Serena; sparkling cyan whirls of plasma flying back at her.
  110. Tora does 11 damage to Jinxel with an Above Average hit.
  111. Tora hit Jinxel with her BANG!BANG! moderate attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  112.
  113. --
  114.
  115. As the match heats up, Shizune finds herself inching forward a little in her seat, without even quite realizing it; it's Tora's first match, and she can't help getting into it a little, fingers tensing when the little shinki pulls out of her fall and opens fire. 'Come on, stay in the match...'
  116.
  117. --
  118.
  119. Gritting her teeth, Selena charges forward directly into the gunfire, knowing that her best chance at victory lies with keeping Tora at close range. Even if she's at a disadvantage in melee against the much heavier armed Shinki, the gap between their close range abilities is far less than between their long range firepower.
  120.
  121. The revolver round hits low, blowing out Selena';s kneecap and leaving her entire lower leg dangling half sheered away from the passage of the bullet, but her charge doesn't faulter as she makes another lunge with one of her defibrilators.
  122.
  123. And then, counting on Tora to react with an evasive maneuver now that she knows what the paddles can do, she anticipates Tora's reaction as best she can and grabs the heavy scimitar attached to her back, lashing out at Tora's projected avenue of escape.
  124. Jinxel does 9 damage to Tora with an Above Average hit.
  125. Jinxel hit Tora with her Bait and Switch strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  126.
  127. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary sounds excited, "That electrical shock messed up Tora's timing, it looks like! The delay gives Selena time to get away from that huge sword--Damnit!--but Tora gives her a parting gift with the Mk.2 Revolver! Looks like Selena might have lost a leg, there. Good thing for her you don't need LEGS to FLY! Brightfeather comes back around, switching that gun of hers for one of her own swords! Finally, the fight's REALLY started!"
  128. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary smacks her hands on her desk and leans dangerously close to her camera, "CHOP CHOP! CUT IT LIKE A GINSU COMMERCIAL!"
  129.
  130. --
  131.
  132. Tora is still building speed and altitude for another strike. Serena following her is exactly the opposite of what she wants, and she probably knows it too. Were she not so focused on lining up her arm with the gun barrel and anticipating the lead of her shots, she'd be arching an eyebrow at how experienced this explicitly non-combat model is, especially when a high caliber shot almost takes her leg off without her faltering.
  133.
  134. Furthermore, Serena's estimate is right. When she comes at Tora with those paddles, the strarf cashes in some of her momentum and arcs back and downward, trying a half loop to get under the brightfeather and shoot her up from underneath. She instead meets with one of those heavy chopping blades, throwing her jets into reverse as she braces with the outer arm of her frame. There is a jarring clang of metal on metal and a shower of sparks as the sharpened edge of that scimitar takes her scissor blade array right off her forearm, sent tumbling down into the clouds below and vanishing out of sight.Owing to the very reason she had been selected as a monitor model however, Tora barely seems to notice. Her attention is entirely on cutting down her opponent. The revolver disappears from her hand in a flash of light, freeing her up to reach for the heavy odachi mounted across her thrusters, unsheathing the massive sword with a terrifying scrape. Gripping the 15 cm blade in both hands, she takes her dive into a tight, fast turn, swinging the sword under her and into a shearing uppercut at the shinki above her, cutting a blood red trail through the sakura.
  135. Tora missed Jinxel with her Signature weapon! Demon Slaying Sword! strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  136.
  137. --
  138.
  139. There is a moment of surprise from Selena as the massive weapon and her eyes go a bit wide as she sees it baring down on her, but finely tuned reflexes kick in as she quickly does an aerial backflip out of the way of the blade as it misses the equipment on her back by mere millimeters.
  140.
  141. Quick to capitalize her good fortune though, it only takes Selena moments to close back into melee range with her opponent, counting on the weapon's length and size to slow Tora's counter attack. Then, with scimitar in one hand and defibrilator in the other, she assaults the Monitor Shinki, slashing out with her great curved blade while simultaniously threatening to jolt her with the electricfied pad should she make the wrong move in defending herself.
  142. Jinxel does 8 damage to Tora with an Above Average hit.
  143. Jinxel hit Tora with her Shock and Sword Style moderate attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  144.
  145. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary says, "With Selena closing up on Tora, it looks like that's not what Tora wants! Selena just cut off one of her weapons--so Tora returns in kind! But that huge sword is pretty easy to see coming and Selena gets out of the way! That's a close shave, huh? NOT CLOSE ENOUGH!" Desk slam, "Selena's getting tricky! Those defibrillators come out again and she dual wields one with the sword for a combo attack! I'm starting to see why this little nurse shinki placed third at Techno Urbania. Crafty little thing, isn't she, shinki fans?"
  146.
  147. --
  148.
  149. Swords are things that Tora knows. She is very good at sword fighting. Even when overextending herself in a risky diveroll and using an extremely long weapon, she has skill and reflexes to spare; not trying to reverse her swing, but rather powering through the rest of her roll into a second uppercut, smacking Serena's scimitar away with consummate ease. It's the confounded defibrilators that get her, just on their novelty factor alone, earning her a deafening electrical snap against her left shoulder that shorts out half the servos in her arm, leaving the heavily armoured limb dangling uselessly as it slips off the hilt of her blade, and a big black scorch mark to boot!
  150.
  151. "Gah, I'm sick of those things!" She blurts out, turning and abruptly ramming the damaged shoulder straight into Serena's chest, body-checking her hard enough to create some space. Her thrusters pulse with a white hot flare that propels her forward in a lightning quick burst of movement, letting her wind back her arm and throw a hefty punch with the full weight of her frame behind it; the steel gray punch-dagger flicking out from its wrist dock with a sinister gleam. Provided it actually connects, the gatling gun nestled just behind it goes off just after, blasting Serena back yet again!
  152. Somewhere, Undefeated Crow has connected.
  153. Tora does 20 damage to Jinxel with a Direct hit.
  154. Tora hit Jinxel with her Backup weapon! Not-so-demon-cutting-blade! strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  155.
  156. --
  157.
  158. As experiences as Selena is compared to her opponent, there's still something to be said for raw talent and power when it comes to determining the outcome of a match, and Tora seems to have that in spades as she /nails/ the light Brightfeather full on. The blast is fearocious and Selena goes sailing awya from the blow... while her left hip along with the attached leg goes another, leaving naught but a giant gorge where her limb should be.
  159.
  160. Unfortunately, along with said leg, Selena has also lost one of her defibrilators with it, as all that remains of the weapon is a dangling wire that occasionally sparks.
  161.
  162. Realizing that a skyward battle isn't going to pan out, Selena dives back towards the earth, hoping to draw Tora in to try and capitalize on the damage inflicted while she unleashes several shots from her handgun to deter her from closing /too/ fast.
  163. Jinxel uses Emptying the Clip moderate combo attack on Tora.
  164. The attacks resulted in a series of, Above-average, Above-average, and Above-average strikes for a total of 12 damage.
  165.
  166. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary cheers, "Tora's arm is limp! That's a lot more important than a leg in this fight! IT'S USELESS, CUT IT OFF FOR ITS WEAKNESS--" ahem, "But even one-handed she still has a large arsenal of close range weapons, most important of which right now is that katar! --Oh! And the gatling cannon at the same time! What a combo! Selena tumbles back with so much force that her damaged leg just tore right off at the hip! This is what I live for! The Brightfeather seems to have another strategy in mind, staying low and using her handgun again. Is she baiting a response?"
  167.
  168. --
  169.
  170. And now it's getting more intense; in a lot of ways it's like Shizune's first tournament all over again. She's gotten used to watching fellow students - and even those she's helped her sensei train - but this is a case of an entirely different sort of combat tournament, and someone she's directly responsible for overseeing. It's hard not to be anxious as Selena opens fire on her shi- on Tora.
  171.
  172. --
  173.
  174. Unfortunately, "deter" just isn't in Tora's vocabulary! Despite the amount of damage she's taking, the Strarf Lavina model shinki doesn't seem to intend on even /slowing down/ any time soon, charging right into the fray after Serena with reckless abandon. It's half suicidal, half inspiring, all exciting, and completely owed to the fact that she just isn't paying attention to her safety alerts like a functional Shinki is supposed to. Call it an error, but it's giving Tora the upper hand, because as it happens, she has the armour to take those hits to press her advantage.
  175.
  176. Handgun rounds spark and ping off of her battle frame, blasting off pieces of her harness, bits off her thruster casing, and even cracking one of her "samurai horns" completely off, leaving a sort of half-moon appearance. As she gets close, she turns slightly sideways so that the useless arm absorbs the next volley of shots, punching deep into the lump of useless metal, but leaving the shinki herself safe behind it. Counting her shots, the moment Serena is forced to reload, Tora swivels around and produces her own handgun, returning fire with the deafening flash and bang of the massive revolver at stiflingly close range. Her left hand goes to the tanto sheathed at her hip, drawing it, flipping it around, and inserting it back into the lock, so that the scabbard below becomes the shaft to a makeshift naginata. As her feet crunch into the surface of the mountain, she lunges straight towards Serena, building up speed over a few thumping steps before swinging the polearm about at her head.
  177. Tora does 5 damage to Jinxel with a Graze hit.
  178. Tora hit Jinxel with her Revolver/naginata combo! These time periods are completely incompatible! strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  179.
  180. --
  181.
  182. The revolver rings out, blasting the handgun from Selena's hand as she skims across the ground. She can't technically 'stand' on it, seeing how one leg is dangling uselessly and the other is in about twelve different pieces across the landscape. Then she braces herself to prepare for Tora's charge...
  183.
  184. By sheathing her scimitar.
  185.
  186. Wha?
  187.
  188. Gritting her teeth as she readies herself, Selena watches as Tora charges, then at the last second, she lunges forward and grabs the length of the naginata's shaft as he comes down on her, stopping the descending weapon with her bare hjands.
  189.
  190. Then quickly following up, she deliberately tangles her dangling leg in between Tora's legs, and at the same time yanks forward to throw her off balance. At the same time with her hands, she guides the blade.
  191.
  192. Right into the mountain side where it becomes lodged in the stone.
  193.
  194. Knowing that her opening will be gone the instant that Tora either pulls the weapon free or abandons it for another, Selena snaps her useless leg off at the knee rather than try and dislodge it, then grabs the massive needle from her back and thrusts it into Tora's side, before unloading... whatever chemical solution within into her stab wound. Whatever that stuff is, it can't be good for a Shinki's inner workings.
  195. Jinxel does 12 damage to Tora with an Above Average hit.
  196. Jinxel hit Tora with her TAKE YOUR MEDICINE uber attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  197.
  198. --
  199.
  200. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary shouts, "Whether it's bait or not, Tora doesn't seem to care, down she goes! Looks like that useless arm isn't useless after all, it makes a handy shield... And right when Selena has to reload her weapon, Tora's revolver comes out! After a few shots, she hits the ground and--grabs a short sword--No wait, she's combining parts! It's a polearm! As she gets close, Selena stops! I KNEW it was a trap! Tora didn't seem to pick up on that, and now her weapon's stuck in a rock while Selena uses that big ol' needle! Sensitive Shinki fans may want to look away!"
  201. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary thumps her hands on her desk, "I SURE AS HELL WON'T!"
  202.
  203. --
  204.
  205. Though Tora is both much heavier and much stronger than Serena, the fact that her balance is all out-of-whack due to repeated shocks to asymmetrical locations and the sheer speed at which she is moving make the almost judo-like throw the smaller brightfeather employs /wildly/ successful on her enthusiastic opponent. The strarf goes tumbling face first onto the ground as she trips up over the broken shinki leg, caught off guard by sheer resourcefulnes as her naginata plunges into the rock beside her. She manages to roll onto her back just in time to see that ridiculously oversized syringe come down onto her, and then shoot sparks from her joints as it pierces the synthetic bodysuit and skin to the coolant ducts underneath.
  206.
  207. "Agh! Needles!" Tora cries out at the savage administration of unwanted "medical care" to her frame, gritting her teeth as the wrong chemicals go into her coolant pool with a terrible burning sensation.
  208.
  209. Despite the battering her armour has taken however, the beauty of having it seperate from her body is that the latter is relatively undamaged, and so she has just enough strength left to grab the comically huge hypodermic with both hands; wrapping her fingers tight around the needle itself and forcibly pushing it back out. Electricity crackles from the hole in her side as she kicks Serena away and vaults back up to her feet, holding the wound with one arm across her stomach as she yanks her spear free with the other. Taking one step back and three steps forward, she flips her grip on the polearm and /hurls/ it overhand, aiming to impale Serena to the tree a short ways behind her with a powerful, short ranged throw.
  210. Tora does 14 damage to Jinxel with an Above Average hit.
  211. Tora hit Jinxel with her MY GUNGNIR! strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  212.
  213. --
  214.
  215. It's pretty clear at this point that Selena is running on fumes, as sparks fly from her wounds and one of her eyes is half lidded as she's forced back, dropping her syringe in the process. It's becoming difficult to remain hovering after taking so much damage.
  216.
  217. Perhaps because of her lack of mobility, Tora lands the spear throw solidly, and with a loud /kathunk/, Selena finds herself pinned to the tree by the blade piercing her gut, and desperately, she tries to dislodge it so she can free herself.
  218.
  219. But the weapon won't come loose.
  220.
  221. Hoping to buy herself some time to get free, Selena grabs one of her scimitars and sends it hurtling up into the massive tree, slicing through a rather thick tree branch and causing it to collapse to the ground atop of Tora. It probably won't slow her down for very long, but at this juncture, it's her best bet.
  222. Jinxel does 10 damage to Tora with an Above Average hit.
  223. Jinxel hit Tora with her If A Tree Branch Falls In The Forest, Does It Hurt A Lot? strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  224.
  225. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary says, "Tora's not a fan of needles, by the look of it. She pulls her spear loose from the rock and just THROWS it when Selena tries to get away! What a good shot, that Brightfeather looks like she's stuck to one of the cherry trees in the Field! But she's not giving up. Selena throws one of her swords into the branches and brings one down on Tora!"
  226.

  228.
  229. Granted, even if Serena is losing steam, Tora doesn't /look/ much better. The extensive damage to her frame from Serena's superior tactics and the benefit of experience don't look much less severe than the brightfeather's. The difference is that Tora's eyes burn with determination, refusing to so much as blink despite how much the overheating pushes her limits. As the tree branch comes crashing down from above, she ducks to the side in mid-sprint, one of the protruding sub-branches smashing itself over the back of her armour so hard that it crumbles to splinters, short circuiting her thrusters, but she keeps going anyways.
  230.
  231. She levels the gatling gun at Serena, but the barrels only shudder and twitch, refusing to spin after their cooling system has been overloaded. Not missing a beat, Tora simply purges the weapon system from her frame, snatching the odachi back up again with both of her regular hands on the hilt to make up for the missing powered arm, winding it back behind her head as she lets out a fearsome battle cry; barreling fearlessly straight into Serena and swinging the massive weapon about in a slashing crescent that carves half the tree-trunk out in a single gouge, filling the air with the creak of precariously balanced wood.
  232. Tora does 20 damage to Jinxel with a Direct hit.
  233. Tora hit Jinxel with her BANZAAAAIIIIIIII! strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>

  236.
  237. "C'mon you... bloody... pointed stick!" Selena curses as she wrestles with the spear pinning her in place, keenly aware of Tora baring down on her. Then with a final shriek of metal scraping, she dislodges the spear.
  238.
  239. Only to get sliced in half at the waist a moment later by the blade as it carves through the trunk to get her.
  240.
  241. Both top half and buttom half of the medical Shinki collapse to the ground as she can no longer maintain a hover, but even after sych grevious damage, Selena is still trying to push herself up and fight, gritting her teeth as she looks for a way to fight back.
  242.
  243. And what she finds is ironically her lower torso.
  244.
  245. More importantly, the still sparking wire from the defibrilator that was lost a while ago.
  246.
  247. Though unable to hover, Selena does manage a quick burst for a half second, just enough to 'hop' up in the air in an attempt to tackle Tora to the ground... and then should she succeed, she quickly snatches up the sparking wire and /shoves/ it into the needle wound, allowing the remainder of the battery from the defibrilator to discharge directly into her opponent.
  248. Jinxel does 14 damage to Tora with an Above Average hit.
  249. Jinxel hit Tora with her LAST DITCH EFFORT GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! epic attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  250.
  251. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary shouts, "Selena works herself loose just in time for Torato cut her right in half! THE CARNAGE! That's it, Shinki Fans--Oh wait, no! Selena's still kicking!" Deskslam and more uncomfortably close leaning, "She's got the wires from her defibrillator, what are you doing--! OH! Sparking wires in an open wound! That's gotta be illegal!" She then leans EVEN CLOSER, "BUT IT'S /NOT/!"
  252.

  254.
  255. A clean cut! The aspiration of all true samurai! Despite what would be an incredibly grisly scene were the two fighters flesh and blood beings, Tora has to struggle not to squeal in elation at pulling off such a cinema-perfect move, resulting in total victory! Or so she thinks! Being a medical shinki with a notoriously meek and timid master, there's nothing about Serena that would have Tora expecting her to pull a stunt like that while severed from the waist down. The alarming pragmatism of the, after all, Confederate aligned shinki, is the pefect setup for a surprise attack, and Tora's cry of elation swiftly changes to one of pain as bolts of lightning arc and slither up and down her body; the poor shinki forced to squeeze her eyes shut as her joints twitch, spark and shiver from the agonizing electrical overload.
  256.
  257. And yet, she refuses to lose; not when victory is /so close/. Peeking one eye open, Tora manages to force her arm to move by sheer force of will; soldiering on through the absolute havoc that loose wire plays on her servos. Shuddering fingers clench tight around Serena's hand, gripping her fist inside another as Tora puts all her flagging strength into wrenching the wire free of her side, fighting Serena for every centimeter the entire way. The instant the electrical current ceases, clearing control of her body again even as the alerts nearly drown her HUD, Tora rears back and delivers one mighty blow in the form of a terrific headbutt straight to Serena's forehad, bashing her with that stylishly broken samurai helmet.
  258. Tora missed Jinxel with her HONOURABU BATTORU moderate attack! <Standard Mechanic>

  261.
  262. This time, Shizune does stand right up in her seat, an uncharacteristic loss of decorum on her part. Watching Tora get shocked that viciously is agonizing. "...Come on..." she murmurs, fists clenched a little.
  263.
  264. --
  265.
  266. Like some sort of deranged rabid ferret skittering around a grown man, Selena refuses to back down, swinging her body around to the side when Tora lashes out with her head only to hit nothing but air. As she swings around Tora's body like some kind of monkey, she grabs at Tora's arm and twists it back, straining the joints with fierce determination while at the same time grabbing Tora in a headlock with the other.
  267. Jinxel does 10 damage to Tora with a Direct hit.
  268. Jinxel hit Tora with her TAP! TAP! moderate attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  269.
  270. <1X-Supplemental> Vervi | Mary is all excited again, "Tora tries to put Selena in her place but Selena's just too quick! Maybe ditching her legs was a good thing huh? Despite being basically held together by her own jelly, Selena's crawling all over Tora now and tries to put the Strarf's good arm and her head in a hold! Is this even gonna work!? Could this be one of those infamous from-behind victories that made Selena so famous in Techno Urbania?!"
  271.
  272. --
  273.
  274. "Augh! Just . . . give up . . . already!" Tora manages to gasp through both intense pain and even more intense frustration, the wear on her systems only blotted out by her unquenchable desire to win. Half a shinki isn't exactly an easy opponent to grab hold of, nevermind grapple, and so the Strarf quickly finds herself struggling uselessly against Serena as the latter tries to pull the former's joints out of place; her pneumatic armoured arm locked in a synchronized, similarly useless gesture.
  275.
  276. So she does the next best thing. Tora starts to back up, stumbling step by step over the battered rocks, shaking with the effort of not tripping with Serena on her back. Poised just over the dense, misty fog below, she turns, takes a deep breath, and simply jumps down the side; thoughtlessly plunging into the abyss below without her thrusters to rely on.
  277.
  278. But more importantly, with Serena, locked against her back, smashing and bashing into every rocky outcrop on the way down.
  279. Tora does 21 damage to Jinxel with a Direct hit.
  280. Tora hit Jinxel with her It ends here! strong attack! <Standard Mechanic>
  281. Jinxel has been knocked out!

  283. --
  284.
  285. Sadly, there's not a whole lot Selena can do about falling off a cliff and bouncing all the way down upon the back of her opponent. After all, she has no legs to speak off, she can't fly, and if she dares to let go of Tora, she loses her one chance to win. It's very unlikely that she'll ever get a chance to grapple Tora again should she let go.
  286.
  287. So bracing herself, she clings desperately to Tora.
  288.
  289. Somewhere along the way down though, a particularly bad impact crushes her arm and the sudden jar causes her other hand to let go, sending poor Selena plummeting all the rest of the way down where she crashes in a broken wreck.
  290. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi | Mary cheers! "After a FRANTIC final few seconds, with Selena growing crazy agile after being cut in half by Tora's huge sword, the battle is over! Victory goes to the Strarf MK.II Lavina, Tora, and her master Nakamura Shizune!" Desk slam, "NOW FINISH HER! FATALITY! /FATALITY/!" ahem, "Or don't! I don't care! Tora advances to the next round!"
  291.
  292. <J-IC-Moderated> Another brat, Toph Beifong says, "Grats!"
  293. <J-IC-Moderated> Tesla Armadia says, "Aaaw, too bad Serena... and I owe Fuki a bunch of cans, oof"
  294.
  295. The moment the victory is called, Shizune begins applauding enthusiastically. It was a lot more nail-biting than she'd expected; more than once, she had to remind herself that it was all virtual, neither of them were really being injured like that.
  296.
  297. <J-IC-Moderated> Tesla Armadia says, "Well, Saiga does"
  298.
  299. As the virtualizer fades, leaving a very scratched and scuffed up brightfeather lying down on the podium next to an equally scuffed starf lavina, amusingly close to two little kids having had a fight broken up, Tora turns to Shizune and raises her fist excitedly, waving it back and forth to get her attention. "Masteeeeeer! Did you like it?" Suddenly struck by something else however, she turns back on the spot. A line Shizune had said to her upon first meeting sticks in her head. She extends one arm, and her armour mimics the action, offering Serena a pneumatic powered hand up. "You are by far the scariest shinki I've ever met." She states plainly. "Especially for a nurse model."
  300.
  301. <J-IC-Moderated> Ryuko Matoi says, "Cans?"
  302. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi says, "Jelly cans, miss."
  303. <J-IC-Moderated> Ryuko Matoi ah.. "So, food, or somethin'?"
  304. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi says, "Well, no. Shinki can't eat. Jelly cans contain coolant that we do need, though."
  305.
  306. Selena graciously accepts the hand up and dusts herself off, then coughs a bit and clears her throat, "Um... thanks. I guess I went a little wild there, but I didn't have a lot of options left at the end."
  307.
  308. It's right about then that Jinxel comes running up, "OhmygodSelenaareyouokay?"
  309.
  310. Selena sighs a bit and lifts up off the ground, then lands on Jinx's head, "I'm fine... simulated damage, remember?"
  311.
  312. Jinx coughs, "Oh... right. It all just looks so real though..."
  313.
  314. <J-IC-Moderated> Ryuko Matoi says, "Oh, right. You guys're robots, huh."
  315. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi says, "That's right!"
  316. <J-IC-Moderated> Allie says, "We can taste food to make sure we've cooked a good meal for our masters though!"
  317. <J-IC-Moderated> Allie says, "...But a tiny taste is easy to clean by just a quick rinse."
  318. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi says, "Yeah, it is."
  319. <J-IC-Moderated> Vervi says, "What exciting battles today, everyone! Maruko, Mae, Selena, Tora, well done!"
  320.
  321. Of course, Shizune is pleased, clapping happily and beaming at Tora. But it's the show of sportsmanship that really takes her over the edge, the council prez reaching up to adjust her glasses, then giving the victorious monitor shinki an approving nod.
