Doing the right thing.

I've been a part of the speedrunning community for a long time. I love it. I've met so many friends through this community and i love seeing it grow. There are many many positive things that happen in this community it's astounding. But with all the positive, there are still people who look to be negative forces within the community, and it's really really frustrating. Whether it's bad mouthing other runners, or saying rude things to people just to get a reaction, it's really really lame. But recently something really scumbaggy happened that I feel deserves a much more positive reaction to balance the wrong of it.

Right before AGDQ, Big Jon, one of those people that constantly does positive things for the community put together a marathon to help raise money for people to get to GDQ. He gave out the money to runners and other individuals who were taking part in the marathon with the expectation of going. One runner, by the name of TheMartonFi received $1,000, and ended up not being able to go due to issues with travelling to the US.  (He's from Canada.) Big Jon made it clear he could use that money for other runners and that he needed the money back to help another runner (Maquina_azul30) who was now able to go due to these funds.

Maquina_azul30 took out loans with the expectation that MartonFi would refund the money like he said he would after the event.
It never happened, and MartonFi has said he refuses to give the money to someone who had money to go to the event, and is instead keeping it for himself to go to another GDQ. For more info just check these links out.

What happened in this situation is 100% wrong and terrible to see in the community that I know and love. So in order to show that this community is a community that reaches out and helps people, I decided to do something about it. I contacted Maquina_azul30 and told him that I would cover the $1,000 that he is owed. HE was honest with me and said some of his viewers helped him out with 260 already, so  I'm covering the $740 that he is still short. I've been very blessed to have a community of my own that allow me to stream for a living and to be financially well off. I want to bless others and be a positive force in this community. And I want others to be that force too, but not with just money. Encourage your friends in the community when some of them are going through a hard time, be the positive influences that people want to see. Don't look to say mean things to people just to make yourself feel good. Realize that doing the right thing is harder, but in the end the right thing to do. Pay it forward.
