- An introduction to /cgl/, cosplay, & lolita.
- ★ /cgl/
- - If you see something that violates global or board rules, report it.
- - /cgl/ is harsh. Don't expect compliments all around. We will criticize you, but a lot of it will be helpful.
- - Drama, dark humor, and vendettas happen. Ignore and hide the threads and posts you dislike.
- - Buyer beware. Online transactions are shady, especially if they're anonymous. Use common sense.
- ★ Cosplay
- - Don't buy anything from Milanoo.
- - Always wear a wig; never dye your hair. Normal hair cannot stay styled as well as a wig can.
- - Always wear makeup, even if you're a manly man. A washed-out complexion is never flattering for a photograph. The basics: foundation and concealer to even out your skin tone, liner and eye-shadow to bring out your eyes.
- - Choose a costume that matches your skill level. A suit of armor or a Gundam made by someone who's never created a costume will probably look terrible. Start with simpler designs and work your way up.
- - If clothing and accessories make half of a costume, then your physique makes the other half. A costume that isn't properly fitted or unflattering to one's body will be more noticeable than the accuracy of everything else.
- - Satin is a very difficult material to work with for beginners. Unless perfectly fitted, every wrinkle and fold in the costume's fabric will be reflected poorly in photographs. Satin can work within proper context (see: princess gowns) if high-quality types such as bridal, casa, and peau de soie are used; that said, always avoid working with cheap, low-quality costume satins. Stick with matte fabrics for simpler clothing like school uniforms, everyday dresses, or suits.
- - The effort and expenses you put into your costume will always reflect in the final product. Found a deal for a $5 wig on Ebay? It probably looks ratty. Throwing together a last minute costume and only have time to hot-glue the ribbons? They're probably going to melt off halfway through the day.
- - There is nothing wrong with buying your costume as long as you don't pretend to have made it. Don't be ashamed.
- ★ Lolita
- - Again, don't buy anything from Milanoo.
- - Lolitas are known to be more brutal bitches than the rest of /cgl/. Ignore and hide the threads and posts you dislike.
- - New to the fashion? Looking for less expensive products? Bodyline is a good place to start. (http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/)
- - Approximately 99% of lolita purchases made through Ebay will be of horrible quality and you will be mocked.
- - Replica discussion on /cgl/ usually goes nowhere.
