  1. Endorphine gives channel operator status to tocia
  2. <lingfala> Ah Elanor
  3. <lingfala> Yeah I'm here
  4. <Enqi> sinecure
  5. <Enqi> are you here?
  6. <Enqi> just hang around for abit, let me call sam
  7. <Enqi> anyway I will be going through your interview, basically I will introduce you to the basics of doa
  8. <lingfala> Ok sure
  9. <Enqi> so I'm elanor
  10. <Enqi> there's a few other group members in here, such as tocia, who does eng subs
  11. <Enqi> sinecure and dana, both are encoders.
  12. <Enqi> I assume you understand what doa is about
  13. <Enqi> ?
  14. <lingfala> More or less yeah
  15. <Enqi> Just to cover the basics, we are a tv show group with different divisions focusing on tv content in different regions of asia.
  16. <Enqi> we are not a 0day group, for us, quality matters, as opposed to quantity
  17. <Enqi> do you have any prior encoding experience?
  18. <Enqi> basic stuff like handbrake, virtualdubmod, stuff like this
  19. <lingfala> Some of the basics yeah. Encoding from profiles out of tutorials in handbrake though
  20. <Enqi> so in general, video encoding is a time consuming, and tedious process
  21. <Enqi> it's not as automated as it seems, because for various sources, you need to write a different script in order to handle the various types of deinterlacing that you will face
  22. <Enqi> of course, as a newbie, you will be assigned a teacher upon entrance into the group, and this teacher will coach you accordingly, by starting you off with the basic training course that members have to go through
  23. <Enqi> you will learn various techniques from these members in the process, and it may be a time consuming/tedious task
  24. <Enqi> so I need to know that you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn
  25. <lingfala> admittedly that could be difficult
  26. <lingfala> with timezones and availability etc
  27. <Enqi> you will be coached for sure
  28. <Enqi> where do you live?
  29. <Enqi> region wise
  30. <lingfala> Australia
  31. <Enqi> do you speak any language other than english?
  32. <lingfala> basic Japanese
  33. <Enqi> chinese?
  34. <lingfala> No chinese
  35. <Enqi> that might be hard, but I'm sure that we can possibly find a teacher to teach you still
  36. <Enqi> I will need to speak to the leader
  37. <lingfala> Okay
  38. <lingfala> If that kind of depth is required
  39. <Enqi> basically, no need to worry about sources
  40. <lingfala> I think I may be wasting your time
  41. <Enqi> :O
  42. <lingfala> or rather
  43. <lingfala> I don't think I'm going to be able to pickup chinese at any reasonable pace lol
  44. <Enqi> oh
  45. <Enqi> you dont need to learn chinese
  46. <Enqi> it's jsut that majority of the encoders speak chinese
  47. <Enqi> since they're from china
  48. <Enqi> I can ask if you can be taught by one of the avaliable ones who speak english
  49. <Enqi> sinecure is an american
  50. <Enqi> and rong is a canadian
  51. <lingfala> How would the teaching normally be conducted?
  52. <Enqi> there's a manual
  53. <Enqi> :D
  54. <Enqi> but basically, they will pass you different type of sources
  55. <Enqi> ask you to give it a shot
  56. <Enqi> then correct you if needed
  57. <lingfala> Ahh okay
  58. <Enqi> for tv source, you do not need to worry
  59. <Enqi> we have dedicated capping teams in korea to take care of that stuff
  60. <Enqi> you probably will be assigned one or two projects per week
  61. <Enqi> you can decline projects
  62. <Enqi> if you're not free
  63. <Enqi> we will provide you with an invitation to the site that we release on
  64. <Enqi> it is one of the biggest chinese trackers, and invites are no longer avaliable, unless you join an internal encoding team.
  65. <lingfala> Okay
  66. <lingfala> So the projects are for learning but also as a trial of sorts?
  67. <Enqi> projects refer to a show
  68. <Enqi> you might not be assigned to a show that quickly
  69. <Enqi> but towards the end of your training
  70. <Enqi> you may be assigned to a series
  71. <Enqi> to give you some first hand experience
