Problem:
In games, the screen will freeze up and repeat sounds over and over. If I switch desktops sometimes it will allow me to escape, I have this same error on Cinnamon, LXDE, LXQT, XFCE, and i3. The issue happends in groupings, entire days can go by without a single crash, sometimes every time I launch a game at least once, or within seconds of getting back into a game. consecutavily until theres nothing I can do but abandon the game.
This really sucks because I play competitive CSGO, and constantly having to reboot ruins games and frustrates me + everyone else involved, I would prefer not having to go back to Windows.

Xorg.0.log shows this will pop in and out durring the freeze as well as on boot.

On the man page for nvidia-xconfig I found the following:
−−stereo=stereo
Enable/Disable the stereo mode. Valid options are: 1 (DCC glasses), 2 (Blueline glasses), 3 (Onboard stereo), 4 (TwinView clone mode stereo), 5 (SeeReal digital flat panel), 6 (Sharp3D digital flat panel).

so I ran:
sudo nvidia-xconfig --stereo=0

but this changes nothing, the same error still occurs and it will still complain about NVIDIA 3D Vision





 


Lauching the Unreal Tournament alpha in the terminal allows me to get this output:

Other non-free NVIDIA drivers can still have the same problem
and the free ones make playing games impossible...
