Eventually, I created a stockpile for each plant and seed. After that I did not have that issue again. (0025786) Rafal99 (reporter) 2014-07-11 13:19 It is most likely caused by barrels or plants or barrels with plants being tasked to be used in some other jobs. Please upload a save so we can check. (0025836) ysgard (reporter) 2014-07-11 16:11 I've just now seen this problem, and seen it in an earlier game as well. Here's a save file: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8878 [^] (0025932) Gragsmash (reporter) 2014-07-12 00:00 uploaded a save file with this issue http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8892 [^] (0025992) CzT (reporter) 2014-07-12 13:48 Same problem: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8910 [^] (0026015) Dwarfu (manager) 2014-07-12 15:36 edited on: 2014-07-12 15:36 Given that the brewing tasks are reactions now, this is most likely the same problem as 0003224. (0026172) dree12 (reporter) 2014-07-13 14:30 edited on: 2014-07-13 14:31 0003224 was closed because it wasn't deemed gamebreaking at the time, but this bug is very severe. Without alcohol, the dwarves simply cannot function. Not making containers is also not an option. I think the original bug should be reopened and this be marked a child bug. (Right now it is marked related, but I think the parent-child relationship makes more sense and is more specific.) (0026178) Footkerchief (manager) 2014-07-13 14:46 I'm leaving the relationship as is -- the bug is that brewing is broken. Toady might choose to fix it by fixing 0003224, but that's up to him. Agreed on the severity though. (0026355) Toady One (administrator) 2014-07-14 16:23 Haven't had trouble brewing out of barrels, so it isn't a general reaction problem. Save 8892 is 150 bytes, save 8910 needs to extend the burrow over the barrels, then it worked. In save 8878, I got it to work sometimes, but it looks like your only plant barrel is being snatched off for farm work in between drink jobs, so they keep cancelling. That's sort of a dwarves-are-stupid hauling priorities AI issue, but it should sort itself out when you get some more supplies, hopefully. (0026358) Footkerchief (manager) 2014-07-14 16:46 Anyone got a save that isn't explained by the above? (0026371) Toady One (administrator) 2014-07-14 18:09 Didn't mean to be flippant about the burrows, incidentally. I'll be handling 0000434 sometime coming up here. Thanks for reminding me. (0026758) cephalo (reporter) 2014-07-17 12:37 Here is a save that I don't think is explained by the above. I do have a small burrow associated with a danger alert, but nobody is assigned to it and other jobs are happening just fine. I have plenty of plants and plenty of barrels, in fact the carpenter had just made a new one and placed it in the stockpile. Still can't start a brew job. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9034 [^] (0026761) Dwarfu (manager) 2014-07-17 13:27 Reminder sent to: cephalo cephalo, all of your brewable plants are in a single barrel being hauled by a fishery worker, Rimtar Ducimnoram. Once he places it in the stockpile, the brewing option becomes available. To prevent this, make smaller, more specific stockpiles or make a no-barrel plant stockpile that gives to a nearby barrel-allowed plant stockpile - this will prevent the plant barrels from being tied up for too long. You can also use the manager screen to place an order for drinks and it will activate whenever the barrel of plants is available - if you can stand the cancellation spam in the interim. (0026767) cephalo (reporter) 2014-07-17 14:24 Thanks Dwarfu. It's a tough one to see. That barrel has been physically in the stockpile for a long time. I don't remember how to check if it is part of a task. I haven't played much since dwarves used barrels for hauling. (0026771) SirPenguin (reporter) 2014-07-17 15:37 Brewing has absolutely "felt" broken since the 40.0x series. Something is going on, though it might be inconsistent In 40.01 I embarked with a ton of strawberries with the intention of brewing them so I could plant the resulting seeds. It worked without issue, though my fort fell apart shortly afterward (you know how it goes) I embarked a second time, and thankfully had the foresight to have saved my previous loadout (full of strawberries and empty barrels). I loaded it up and embarked The second time, however, I was completely unable to brew strawberries. The option was red in the still, and I received the same error as the original reporter. Nothing had changed, item-wise or building-wise or even skill-wise, between the embarks. It was extremely perplexing, but then I saw this bug and figured it was a known issue. I'll dig into it some more, as I'd hate for this to be closed out because each save can be explained. (0026776) cephalo (reporter) 2014-07-17 16:47 Barrels can be tied up for a good long while during a task, watch out for that. I think it includes anyone who's coming to pick them up from far away. Anyone gathering plants are the likely culprits for plant barrel thieves. (0026794) SKC (reporter) 2014-07-17 20:55 I'm having the same issue, but I've even created stockpiles exclusively for barrels and plump helmets near the still, and I'm still unable to brew. I don't think it's the same issue as the ones above, but I'm coming back to DF after a big break, so I'm also not sure if there isn't something else I'm overlooking. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9044 [^] (0026799) Dwarfu (manager) 2014-07-17 21:51 Reminder sent to: -John-, .indigo, 008, 0Keske0, 0utopia, 0x517A5D, 1000000000, 10terrapin01, 11199, 1138, 12121212die, 13thEssence, 1Alex, 223344, 24k911, 2fish, 2livedru, 2wizard, 3, 30 Second Artbomb, 32elodbob, 3nigma, 42istheanswer, 42servo, 46852, 4maskwolf, 4nihillator, 50 Million Year Trip, 5h1thead, 5parrowhawk, 64-bit, 777mop, 7c Nickel, 7hm, 7HS, 88-8, 89joka30, 90dragons, 946582f, 9600baudsmonster, __doublep__, _newcomer_, _normit, _qq_, _saracen, A for Anonymous, A Moon, A-chana, a.f., a2290769 SKC, yours is an instance of 0000434. (0026803) dree12 (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:19 The "Issue History" here is a bit long... (0026804) Aluminus (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:22 And I haven't played Dwarf Fortress in about 5 years... (0026809) Madison (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:37 Fantastic job Dwarfu. (I'm also in the same boat as Aluminus, haven't played or been to the bay12 forums in 6~ years.) I'm not on the above list of reminders but got one anyway. No real problem just a heads up (0026811) AseaHeru (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:42 Did it tell everyone to monitor this? (0026813) Badfuzzy (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:52 Receiving an unexpected e-mail is such a bother. I think I'm emotionally traumatized. (0026814) Deepfreeze (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:56 I forgot I actually had an account on the tracker, actually. Definitely got a reminder email though. (0026815) ratboy (reporter) 2014-07-17 22:59 Did everyone get this. Then I'm not special, oh well ;-) (0026817) Eagleon (reporter) 2014-07-17 23:04 I know this isn't very serious or conductive to bug-buggery, but I found it unexpectedly and inexplicably hilarious to get that reminder in an otherwise terrible day so thank you for completely accidental thing. (0026818) Bovius (reporter) 2014-07-17 23:05 I'm feeling distinctly informed about burrow behavior, though. You can bet I won't make the same mistake if I ever fire up a new fortress. (0026819) Greendogo (reporter) 2014-07-17 23:07 This was the best thing. (0026821) Dwarfu (manager) 2014-07-17 23:24 Sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully everyone felt some love. (0026822) 4maskwolf (reporter) 2014-07-17 23:37 Wow. I feel so loved. I just got sent a reminder about burrows by a manager. (0026830) Izokina (reporter) 2014-07-18 00:31 It's a tantrum time!
