Björklund, Boisman, Mäki and Gustafsson had arrived to lake Bodom's beach on Saturday 4.6.1960 around 6-7 PM. After setting up the tent, the group spent time together and at some point they have visited another group camping about 1 km away from their tent. Already at this point Gustafsson had been drunk and was looking to fight Boisman. The group returned to their tent, Boisman and Gustafsson have been seen still moving around 3.30 AM during the night of 5.6.1960. When the fighting continued during the night, rest of the group had shut Gustafsson outside the tent and closed the tent opening. After this Gustafsson ripped holes to the tent from outside and cut the ropes which were keeping the tent up, this caused the ends of the tent to collapse outwards. After this Gustafsson assaulted Boisman, and Boisman kicked Gustafsson in the jaw, breaking Gustafsson's jaw. After this Gustafsson stabbed Boisman in the throat and caused the rest of the injueries to Boisman. Mäki then tried to escape and Gustafsson used a rock to hit her in the head. After that he hit Björklund first in the face with a rock, continuing by stabbing her in the neck and throat with a knife. Gustafsson had visual contact to the victims during the murders. The weapons and missing items Gustafsson disposed by sinking them to the muddy lake or by digging them into the ground. His own and Boisman's shoes Gustafsson hid about 600 meters away from the tent. Gustafsson ripped holes to the tent with the intention of misleading, and by removing Björklund's clothes and disposing the missing items he has tried to convey the idea of an outsider committing sexual crime and a robbery. According to the two eye-witnesses, meaning Heikki Salonen and Martti Haapatainen, the man they saw next to the collapsed tent on 5.6.1960 around 6.00 AM was indeed Gustafsson and that the legs they saw on the top of the tent were Björklund's. After that Gustafsson removed Björklund's clothes and moved the body on the top of Mäki's body after covering Mäki's head with a blanket. Then Gustafsson lay down on the top of Björklund. Comprehensive investigation on the blood stains has shown that there was no blood of an outsider on the tent or on Gustafsson's shoes. The investigation showed that the blood stains on the tent doesn't match Gustafsson's story when it comes to the positions they were sleeping inside the tent. Gustafsson's blood inside the tent most likely came from Gustafsson touching the inside of the ripped tent after he suffered a bloody injury from the fight with Boisman. The investigation has shown that the shoes were on murderer's, Gustafsson's, feet when the crimes were commited. Investigation of the traces of a edged weapon show that the cuts on the tent doesn't match the traces on the victims, e.g the ones on Boisman. No injuries classified as resulting from defending himself have been noted on Gustafsson. Medical report showed that Gustafsson was fully functional even with his injuries, and they haven't caused him any real loss of consciousness or loss of mobility. Gustafsson also didn't have any brain damage or memory loss. If Gustafsson wasn't the killer, he would have sought help in that situation or at least yelled for help. Gustafsson's character is short-tempered and violent. He is also notably larger than anyone else in that group so he was capable of committing the crimes. From the story of the witness Marjatta Sahakangas, it emerged that Gustafsson was fighting with the rest of the group. The reason for this fight was Gustafsson's jealousy and disappointment resulting from that he didn't get to have sex with Björklund. This would be Gustafsson's motive for the crimes. The group had two men, so the idea that there would be an outsider trying to commit a sex crime on one of the women in the group is completely inconceivable. The missing items are completely worthless so it wasn't a robbery either. Gustafsson has after the event systematically exaggerated his injuries, drawing the attention away from him. With the same intention, Gustafsson has told that he was dragged around during the events, although there's no evidence for this claim. The pillow case found on the camping site could have already been there before they arrived. The pillow case also doesn't matter when evaluating this matter, like it doesn't matter that not all of the found items were booked. Evaluating everything, it seems that Gustafsson is the only viable suspect. The investigation went on wrong tracks and Gustafsson has been falsely seen as a victim. It wasn't until 2004 that Gustafsson was questioned as a suspect, when the investigation technology had developed enough and the true events were found out. Killings were done with consideration, showing cruelty and brutality. Therefore it's a felony, and the cause of action isn't expired.
