  1. Now after I did my review of Dragon Ball GT and talked about how horribly it sucked, I decided to do a review of the things that killed Dragon Ball Z in my opinion. While it’s true that I did like DBZ significantly more than I did GT, I did find several flaws in DBZ itself. To be perfectly honest with all of you, I didn’t care too much about DBZ until after the Cell Saga, because after that, the story just went to complete shit for me, it got ridiculous, and devolved into an unrecognizable mess of plot holes. Speaking of sagas, there’s a lot of debate within the DBZ fan community as to when Akira Toriyama truly intended to end the franchise. Some say he meant to end it in the Buu Saga, with Gohan being the one to defeat Majin Buu. Others think he meant to end it in the Cell Saga, with Gohan taking Goku’s place as the hero of the Earth, leaving Goku dead. Then there are others who think he meant to end it in the Frieza Saga, with Goku taking out Frieza and dying a hero. While there’s reasonable arguments for all three of those positions, personally I think it doesn’t matter, because good writing is good writing, regardless of whether or not you meant to end the series at a certain point, and bad writing is bad writing, regardless of when the unintended end is. And I’m here to argue that regardless of when you think the series was meant to end, there were 15 flaws of the series that completely ruined it in my opinion. Without further delay, I’m about to talk about the 15 Things that Killed Dragon Ball Z.
  2.
  3.
  4. 15: Inconsistent Physics
  5.
  6. Okay, let’s start with the small potatoes. The first problem I had with DBZ was the inconsistent physics. For example, in the Saiyan Saga, during the fight between Goku and Vegeta, the latter prepares a Galick Gun that is capable of destroying an entire planet. He even says "I'm gonna blow this planet up!" During the beam struggle between the two, we see that the whole entire Earth is shaking because of what I mentioned. Then later on, in the Cell Saga, we see Cell prepare a Kamehameha Wave that is capable of destroying the entire Solar System. In the video games, it's called the "Solar Kamehameha". So this Kamehameha Wave was aimed towards Gohan, who releases an equally powerful Kamehameha, resulting in the same kind of beam struggle that Goku and Vegeta had in the Saiyan Saga.
  7.
  8. Now here's my problem. Vegeta is much less powerful than Perfect Cell when he's fighting Goku in the Saiyan Saga, yet his beam struggle with him manages to vibrate the Earth. But why is it that Cell's Solar Kamehameha doesn't destroy the Earth? You have to think about it. If Gohan and Cell were having a beam struggle, both with energy attacks capable of destroying the entire Solar System, then why is it that the worst thing that happened was that we got really bad earthquakes and tornadoes on the Earth? This should have at the very least destroyed the Earth. Think about it. If I shoot a nuclear warhead at another nuclear warhead and they both detonate in the same space, don't you think it would at least destroy the land around them? But no, all we get is a giant crater in the ground. And to make matters worse, Vegeta (who is at Super Saiyan 2), during his fight with Fat Buu, releases a Final Explosion, which is all the energy he contained, which himself was more powerful than Cell, and more powerful than he himself and Goku during the Saiyan Saga, so he releases an energy attack that has even more power than is necessary to destroy the Solar System, but we don't get the Solar System being destroyed. Instead, we just get a giant heat dome and crater in the ground where he once was. What kind of inconsistent physics is that? Now, this whole ability to destroy a planet is very inconsistent throughout the entire series. But this is all just nitpicking on my part, therefore it's only small potatoes.
  9.
  10. 14: Inconsisent Android Physics
  11.
  12. The second problem I had was the inconsistent Android physics. Now I want you to think about this. Frieza was a galactic overlord. He was a tyrant, he took over planets, and he could destroy planets with the tip of his finger. A normal human would be absolutely no match to Frieza, even in his first form. In Frieza’s final form at 100%, he was even able to give Super Saiyan Goku a little bit of trouble during the fight. So, you take a being who, at his very best, is able to go toe-to-toe with a Super Saiyan for a limited amount of time, you outfit him with cybernetics, and you get a being who gets swatted like a fly by another Super Saiyan (Future Trunks). However, you take a weak human (both Androids 17 and 18), give them cybernetics, and suddenly you have two beings who can take out a Super Saiyan and swat him like a fly. What type of inconsistent physics is that? Why is it that I equip the weaker being with cybernetics, I get an even stronger being, but when I equip the stronger being with cybernetics, I get something that can be slain by a Super Saiyan? You would think that outfitting Frieza with cybernetics would be able to actually have him give a good fight to Future Trunks, but instead he just gets cut up like hot butter, whereas you outfit humans with cybernetics, and you get something that can batter a Super Saiyan around like it’s nothing. So does this mean that there’s some sort of rule that the weaker you are, the more powerful cybernetics make you? Does that mean if I outfit Chiaotzu with cybernetics, he’d be able to kill Cell with no problems? Or if I outfit Oolong with cybernetics, he’d be able to destroy Kid Buu with no trouble? They really needed to get their heads in the game here because this was terrible, and I felt like such a mistake in writing was inexcusable.
  13.
  14. 13: Good Technique Doesn’t Pay
  15.
  16. The next thing that I thought was a bigger problem than the previous one was the fact that Dragon Ball was more action-comedy, but when it had action, it actually had good action. In the Tenkaichi Budokai Tournament, it wasn’t just whoever’s strongest wins, but you had to fear good techniques. Though a person did not have the same natural abilities as his opponent, he could make up with it with much training. For example, though Tien was not as naturally gifted as Goku because he wasn’t a Saiyan, he was actually able to give Goku a pretty hard time in the Tenkaichi Budokai when they first fought, and Tien actually won that fight all because of luck, but whatever. The point is, in Dragon Ball, you did not just need to be strong, but you needed to have good techniques. It actually had really martial arts in these fights. Jackie Chun was able to go toe-to-toe with Kid Goku for the same reason. You had actual, exciting, and eventful fights. For example, the time when Goku actually found out the weakness of Tien’s multi-form and Solar Flare techniques. I thought that was highly exciting. But what do we get in DBZ? We get a bunch of random explosions, and a series of transformations. Speaking of transformations….
  17.
  18. 12: Transformers
  19.
  20. How many forms were there in the Dragon Ball Z franchise? My God. We have the Saiyan’s normal forms, Super Saiyan, Ascended Super Saiyan, Ultra Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, Oozaru, all of Zarbon’s forms, all of Frieza’s forms, all of Cell’s forms, and all of Buu’s forms. Good heavens, we have nearly 30 forms for 5 or 6 people! Why were there so many freakin’ transformations? Why couldn’t they actually focus on having good fights instead of having people transform all the fucking time? Optimus Prime would fake with jealousy if he saw all the transformations that took place in DBZ. They should have called Dragon Ball Z “Transformers”, because there was more transforming than in the Transformers franchise.
  21.
  22. 11: Sloppy Racism
  23.
  24. Another problem I had with Dragon Ball Z was that I felt it was a little racist. Now, I’m not talking “Mr. Popo racist”, because you can find whatever problems you want with Mr. Popo. But if you think Mr. Popo is racist, then you’re just gonna have to take problems with every character in DBZ because, by that logic, I can say that Chi-Chi is racist for Asians, I can say that the announcer of tournaments is racist for white people, and so on and so forth. Dragon Ball Z just says “Colorful depictions of race and ethnicity”, but I don’t think that makes it overtly a racist show. But the thing I do think is a little racist is the fact that when you get past the Android Saga, there are no more useful non-Saiyan characters. The last useful non-Saiyan character was Piccolo, when he was a Super Namek, during his fight against Android 17. But after that, he got his ass whooped by every major villain, and this is a problem I have with the show; why is it that in order to beat a main villain, you have to be a Saiyan? Why is it that the only useful characters in the DBZ franchise were Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks? However, Goten and Trunks were only useful as much as they were able to become Gotenks.
  25.
  26. But here’s my problem; why do you make it that the way to win a fight is to just be born the right race? I wish that they would have kept with the Dragon Ball format of “You can win a fight based on how hard you work regardless of your natural abilities”, and that would have made the show a lot better. It would have made it more like Pokemon. I’m not saying that it should have the same animation style as Pokemon, but here’s one thing I did like about Pokemon. You didn’t have very many overpowered Pokemon. The Plant-type Pokemon did well against the Water-type Pokemon; however, the Fire-type Pokemon did well against the Plant-type Pokemon, and you had this sort of rock-paper-scissors relationship where everyone had their strengths, but they also had their weaknesses. It seems like in the Dragon Ball franchise, as far as combat goes, the Saiyans didn’t have any weaknesses, but that’s crappy writing. They’re only not weak because they were born that way? That’s just stupid. Toriyama, I really wish you had kept with the format of Dragon Ball, where hard work pays off, because it would have made for more exciting fights. I would have loved to see Tien and Piccolo be more useful in the series later on. They’re awesome characters! Yet all you get out of Piccolo is chopping Babibi in half, which is pointless because Buu just heals him minutes later. Then you have Tien deflect a blast from Super Buu, which I think made Tien pretty awesome, but I would have loved to see Tien be more powerful and give Super Buu a good fight, or to see Piccolo step up and give a good fight. There would have been a more balanced cast instead of just “RAAAHHHH!!!! I’M A SAIYAN!!! I’LL BEAT YOU UP!!! IMMA FIRIN’ MAH LAZER!!!!!!” I feel like focusing only on the Saiyans really degraded what good writing the show could have had. Now, speaking of the fight with Majin Buu….
  27.
  28. #10: Buu (a.k.a Cell 2.0)
  29.
  30. If I were to walk up to someone and say that there is a villain in DBZ who gets stronger through absorbing his opponents, who knows all the techniques of many fighters (both alive and dead), who fights Gohan in his new transformation, but Gohan goes easy on him instead of killing him right away, resulting in the death of Goku and Trunks, and Vegeta has to distract this villain while the hero lands the killing blow, completely vaporizing this villain. Oh, and did I mention that this villain can regenerate? Who am I talkin' about? Cell, right? But I'm also talking about Majin Buu.
  31.
  32. When ya think about it, Majin Buu is a complete ripoff of Cell, so all Toriyama did was write in the same villain twice. All he did was take Cell, put him in a blender, put some pink cotton candy in that blender, press the "high" button, spin it around real fast, serve it in a bowl, and give it to us and call it "Majin Buu". It literally took no effort on Toriyama's part to write the character of Majin Buu because he was just a ripoff of Cell. Oh, and just to add icing on the cake, both Cell and Majin Buu experience a time where they have to release a person they previously absorbed and revert back to a form that they once occupied, only to come back good as new and kill more people. So literally, Buu is just a Cell ripoff and I'm thinking that's just weak writing. Give us a good villain, Toriyama. Come on. Please give us a good villain. This is just recapitulated garbage.
  33.
  34. #9: Buu’s Inconsistent Absorption Rules
  35.
  36. I take great issue with the lack of logic in the absorptions of Majin Buu. Here’s how the absorptions of Majin Buu went. Good Buu was separate from Evil Buu after Fat Buu split up, and Evil Buu ate and absorbed the Good Buu and became Super Buu. Super Buu then went on to kill a person. He was about to kill Hercule when he stopped and hesitated. He hesitated to kill Hercule because he had the Good Buu inside of him, and the Good Buu loved Hercule. Not only does Majin Buu take the strengths and abilities of the person he absorbs, but he also takes a piece of their psychological profile, which makes sense because if you absorb a person, you absorb all of them, kinda like Rogue from X-Men, in that she not only absorbs their abilities, but also absorbs their mind, but I digress.
  37.
  38. If Majin Buu absorbs the psyche of the person, as well as their abilities, then explain me this; Super Buu hesitated to hurt Hercule because he had the Good Buu (who loved Hercule) inside of him, right? Well, when Super Buu absorbed Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo, why the hell was he able to continue to fight Gohan? Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo all loved Gohan and had some sort of familiar relationship with him. So you would think that if absorbing one person that loves Hercule is enough for Super Buu to hesitate in a fight against Hercule, then shouldn’t absorbing three people that love Gohan be enough for Super Buu to love Gohan as a friend, a brother, and a son, and then completely just wanna be friends with him? But why was he able to continue to fight? Is Buu selective over what qualities from them he gets to take? If so, then I think that’s crappy writing. To make matters worse, when Majin Buu absorbs Vegito, he splits back up into Goku and Vegeta inside of Majin Buu’s body. Well, it’s because Majin Buu was created from Majin magic, and Majin magic counteracts Kai magic, thus Kai magic doesn’t work on Majin Buu. OK, so that makes sense for splitting Goku and Vegeta back up given the Potara Fusion, because the Potara Fusion is Kai magic. So okay, I’m willing to buy that. What I’m not willing to buy is that if Kai magic doesn’t work on Majin Buu, then why the hell was he able to get killed by the Spirit Bomb, which is a Kai technique? TORIYAMA!!!!! DID YOU EVEN TRY!!!??? :sigh: I’m gonna try to calm down.
  39.
  40. #8: DBZ Villains Have No Backstories
  41.
  42. The next problem I had which I thought absolutely ruined the story of DBZ was that the villains didn’t really have good backstories. In Dragon Ball, we see Mercenary Tao, we see the Crane Hermit, and we see Tien and Chiaotzu back when they were bad guys. We even get a nice good backstory for King Piccolo. So we get to see the motivations of these characters and what makes them tick, what makes them think the way they do, and what their goals were. For Majin Buu and for Cell, there was literally no backstory, unless you count a stupid flashback that Supreme Kai has. But the point I’m trying to make is that these villains were evil just because they were made to be evil. Cell was created by Dr. Gero to be evil. The Androids were created by Dr. Gero to terrorize. Majin Buu was created by Bibidi to terrorize. But other than that, they really had no genuine backstories, so we really didn’t get to empathize with the struggle that they were having other than on a general level of “Good Guys vs. Bad Guys Beat Each Other Up” level. The last DBZ villain that we truly got a backstory from was Vegeta, because when he’s dying at the hands of Frieza, he gets to explain that “I was once a kid, and Frieza made me this way, I was his slave, he made me intimidated, so I became strong to survive, and only the strongest shall survive”. Vegeta actually got a backstory, which was the last time a villain actually got a good backstory. Even Frieza’s backstory was a little lacking. He’s a pink guy with horns that goes around blowing things up. Who gives a crap? Not a good story, moving on. Speaking of Vegeta’s backstory…..
  43.
  44. #7: Majin Vegeta
  45.
  46. I felt like they totally dropped the ball with the Majin Vegeta character. Now if you ask me, Majin Vegeta was just a stupid plot excuse to drag out the amount of time the Buu Saga took, because when you think about it, Majin Vegeta has no real motivation to be Majin Vegeta. Now I know a lot of you can probably say something to the tune of “Well, Vegeta always wanted to be the best, and knowing that Goku was always one step ahead of him, it made him feel bad”. But wrap your mind around this; Goku’s fucking dead. Goku came back for a day, sure, but Goku’s fucking dead, meaning that at that point, Vegeta was the strongest Saiyan alive and the strongest man alive. So wouldn’t that actually be a restoration of his broken pride, knowing that he got to outlive his greatest rival? Now, a lot of people like to point to Vegeta’s motivation in the speech that he gave to Supreme Kai. So when Supreme Kai was giving this speech about “You two are quarreling over some meaningless squabble.”, back when Babidi transported Majin Vegeta and Goku back to the World Tournament, and Vegeta has this fucking panic attack. He goes “WHAT DO YOU KNOW OF THE WORD “MEANINGLESS!?” TRY LIVING YOUR LIFE AS ANOTHER SLAVE!! TRY WATCHING YOUR RACE DWINDLE DOWN TO A HANDFUL!! AND TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW OF MEANINGLESS!! UGHHH!!!”
  47.
  48. When you actually look at Vegeta’s actions and behavior, he contradicts everything he just said in that speech. He talks about “Try living your life under the rule of another.” He’s obviously not over Frieza’s death. But…fucking get over it, Vegeta. Frieza’s been dead for 10 years. Not only that, but your own son, your own flesh and blood was able to avenge you by killing Frieza. You would think that in an honor culture, if your son takes out your greatest enemy, that that would be a badge of honor, and that you would feel your sense of honor and restoration in place. Basically, Frieza had a blood feud against the Saiyans, and the Saiyans had a blood feud against Frieza, which is why a Saiyan being the one to take out Frieza was so pivotal. But it was Vegeta’s own son who took out Frieza. Not only this, but Vegeta became the legendary Super Saiyan. Not only that, but his son was a Super Saiyan. So you'd think when you factor all of this in, he has more reasons to feel proud than he does to feel ashamed. So he’s really just whining here. He has no true motivation to be Majin Vegeta. Not only that, but he also talks about “Watch your race dwindle down to a handful”. And he’s always talking about “Saiyan pride this, Saiyan pride that” and “Saiyan honor this, Saiyan honor that”. Well, I would believe that Vegeta cared about Saiyan honor if he wasn’t trying to kill every other Saiyan that he met. Seriously, you would think that Vegeta hates Saiyans just as much as Frieza does. Think about it. When he first met Goku, he tried to kill him. When he first met Gohan, he tried to kill him. He killed his personal partner Nappa, and I doubt he gave two craps about whatever happened to Raditz. So when you really think about it, how can Vegeta be this character that has such Saiyan honor if he’s trying to kill every other Saiyan around him? You would think that if he had Saiyan honor, he would be like, “Well, there’s only a few of us left. Let’s preserve the Saiyan race, let’s form our own empire, and let’s replenish the Saiyan population”, but he almost tries to do the opposite. So I really don’t buy that Vegeta has Saiyan honor, and I feel like Toriyama really dropped the ball with this point. Now talking about dropping the ball and points, the next one is a huge blunder…
  49.
  50. #6: Unmotivated Gohan
  51.
  52. So Gohan goes to fight Majin Buu for a second time, and he gives this exchange of dialogue. Buu’s like “So, hotshot. You wanna fight Buu?”, then Gohan’s like “Fight you? No, I wanna kill you.” Then the fight proceeds, and all Gohan does is punch and kick Majin Buu a lot. So I’m thinking if you wanna kill someone, why aren’t you going all out? Where’s your motivation? Come on, Gohan. Goten told ya that Chi-Chi and Videl died at the hands of Majin Buu, so why the hell are you going easy on this guy? Didn’t you ever learn? When you fought Cell and you went easy on him at first, things didn’t turn out so well because you ended up losing Trunks and Goku, and the Earth nearly got blown up. So why the hell are you going easy on Majin Buu who’s even stronger than Cell? I felt like this was bad writing on Toriyama’s part. Why are you making Gohan like this again? You would think that after he lost his father to such a stupid blunder, he would have learned his lesson. But obviously, Gohan can’t learn. So what’s the point in investing in such a character if he’s gonna turn out to be a dud every time? You have to think about this. Put yourself in Gohan’s position; If your girlfriend and your mother were killed at the hands of an evil monster, if I knew that, I’m gonna nuke this guy with the biggest Kamehameha I could come up with as soon as I lay eyes on him. But no, all Gohan does is punch him, kick him, and taunt him during the whole fight. This is just a complete waste of Gohan’s character that you spent so much time building up. Speaking of a waste of Gohan’s character…
  53.
  54. #5: Gohan’s Hidden Power???
  55.
  56. How many times did Gohan have his hidden potential unlocked? So Guru unlocks his hidden power and that’s supposed to be his potential unlocked. During the Cell Games, he becomes Super Saiyan 2 and that’s supposed to be his hidden potential unlocked. Then Elder Kai unlocks his potential another time. How many fucking potentials does this guy have? Make up your fucking mind, Toriyama. I just think that this was an overused plot device. Moving on.
  57.
  58. #4: Super Saiyan Bargain Sale
  59.
  60. Another problem I had was what Vegeta calls the Super Saiyan Bargain Sale. So Goten and Kid Trunks are able to become Super Saiyan…for what reason? I don’t know. Bad writing on Toriyama’s part. Now, a lot of fans like to give the explanation that, well…Goten and Kid Trunks have the ability to go Super Saiyan as kids because they inherited from their fathers. Their fathers were able to become Super Saiyan, and they were born after their fathers’ attained Super Saiyan abilities, and that’s why they have it. First of all, I think that’s a load of crap, and let me address that right now. Future Trunks wasn’t born with the ability to go Super Saiyan. He actually had to go work at it, and that’s why he became a Super Saiyan after witnessing Gohan’s death after Gohan died at the hands of the Androids. So I have no reason to believe that the Trunks in the present timeline is different than Future Trunks in terms of when they were born, relative to their fathers ability to become Super Saiyan. Basically, if Future Trunks was born before his father could become Super Saiyan, then I have no reason to believe that Present Trunks was born before his father could become Super Saiyan, especially when we see Baby Trunks in the Android Saga. So if we really wanna get technical with the timelines here, the Future Trunks and Present Trunks timelines don’t divulge at when their father became a Super Saiyan. Their timelines diverge at the death of Goku. So, the explanation that they were inherited the trait of Super Saiyan is complete crap, and I just debunked it. But let me just throw this theory in the grave for a second time just to make sure it’s fully buried. If you can inherit Super Saiyan, then why was there only one Super Saiyan every millennium in the DBZ franchise? Wouldn’t you think that legendary Super Saiyan millennia ago would have made it and produced more Super Saiyan babies, and thus and so? You would think that you would have a whole planet full of kid Super Saiyans if you could inherit the Super Saiyan trait, because traits don’t just die out like that. They propagate throughout a species whenever an individual mates. So I felt like this explanation that “Oh, the kids became Super Saiyan because the inheriting is just weak and excuses Toriyama’s bad writing”. Let me tell you what the real reason that the kids could go Super Saiyan; because Toriyama sucked at writing and he ran out of ideas, and he didn’t take the time to develop the characters of Goten and Kid Trunks. When you think about it, the ability to become Super Saiyan for every other character was a major point of plot development. Think about it. For example, Goku became Super Saiyan after realizing the death of Krillin and realizing that although he’s kind-hearted and gentle, sometimes he just has to get downright dirty in a fight, and it was that inner rage, coupled with his willingness to do whatever it took to take down Frieza, which led to him finally transforming into a Super Saiyan. Vegeta had a whole host of issues, like competition with Goku, and self-hatred of wanting to be the best that pushed him over the edge. Gohan became Super Saiyan because realized that he was tired of being useless in a fight. He wanted to actually stop his friends from dying, and had seen enough bloodshed and wanted it to end. Trunks became Super Saiyan because he witnessed Gohan’s death and he finally decided “Enough is enough. I’m gonna take out these freakin’ Androids!” These are all great examples of plot development surrounding the Super Saiyan transformations. When you get to Kid Trunks and Goten, you see absolutely none of that, and I think it’s because Toriyama didn’t care enough to advance their characters and to evolve the plot. So he just said they should become Super Saiyan just through the Super Saiyan Bargain Sale. I remember in the good ol’ days that Super Saiyan was something you had to earn, not something that was put there just because you’re a Saiyan and a main character. “sighs” I don’t wanna talk about this anymore. I’m done.
  61.
  62. #3: Doesn’t Anybody Learn???!!!
  63.
  64. I thought that this was an overused plot device. The whole "Please Transform, Even Though It's Gonna Kick My Butt", and I feel like seeing this too much is just a sign of repetitive and bad writing. You see this about 4 times in the series.
  65.
  66. It first happened with Vegeta. He begs Frieza to transform, Frieza obliges, and he pwns Vegeta. Then he did the same in his fight against Semi-Perfect Cell, Cell obliges, and Cell ends up pwning Vegeta. But you would think that after Vegeta died at the hands of Frieza (a being who could transform), he would suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and hate anything that transforms. You would think that when Cell used the word “transform”, Vegeta would be like “TRANSFORM!? NOOOOO!!!! FINAL FLASH!!!!”, and that would be the end of it, right? But that’s in a series where good writing takes place. And if that's not enough for you, Vegeta ends up doing it again by making Majin Buu transform and getting the crap beat out of him. Why can't Vegeta learn? Don’t let your opponents transform! Oh, and just to make matters worse, even Cell makes the same mistake by forcing Gohan to transform, which results in his death. Like I said before, they should have called DBZ "Transformers", because the show is usually about forcing people to transform to see who can win a fight.
  67.
  68. #2: Goku is an IDIOT!!!!!!!!
  69.
  70. When Super Saiyan Trunks comes back in time to warn Goku and the others about the Androids, and Trunks admits that even though he was a Super Saiyan, the Androids were able to beat him. Goku is a Super Saiyan at this point, so you would think that logic would imply that Goku would be looking for the next Super Saiyan transformation and ascend to the next level if he learned that these Androids could even beat a Super Saiyan, but what does he do? He sits on his butt and chillaxes with Gohan and Piccolo, taking it easy. If I knew that someone could kill a Super Saiyan and I were a Super Saiyan, ya know what I would have done? I would have taken Gohan, gone in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and pushed for the next level immediately, rather than waste freakin’ time at driving school. Yeah, I know that episode was filler, but I just felt the need to mention it because I thought it was absolute garbage. Piccolo in a baseball cap? Come on. That would be like having an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh!, where Kaiba wears a hoodie and is in a rap concert, but I digress.
  71.
  72. #1: GOKU IS EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  73.
  74. The single biggest problem that I had with DBZ was the fact that your beloved protagonist (Goku) is supposed to be a hero, but all he ever does……..IS GET OTHER PEOPLE FUCKING KILLED!!!!!!! If I didn’t know any better, I would say that Goku is actually a villain. He has endangered more human lives than I care to remember, and to be perfectly honest, Goku is literally responsible for the death of his own family on multiple occasions. So let me just get straight to the point.
  75.
  76. When Goku is warned by Trunks about the Androids, and Trunks goes back to his own future, Goku and the Z-Fighters discuss strategy of how to deal with the Androids. They discuss going to train and prepare for the Androids and all that, and Krillin (one of the seemingly most useless characters in DBZ) makes the smartest and best explanation of advice that I’ve heard in the series. Krillin says “Why don’t we just ask Shenron for the location of the Androids, so we could preemptively destroy them, save lives, and not have any bloodshed?” This did happen in the manga. However, Vegeta says “If you try that, I’m going to kill you, because I want somebody to fight.”, and Goku agrees by saying “Yeah, I want a chance to fight the Androids, too.” Yet Bulma goes “Are you crazy? You’re endangering human lives!”, and Goku just laughs it off like Bulma’s just a stupid dummy for opening her mouth. What I’m thinking is this; Goku, you’re supposed to be the protector and hero of the Earth. Why do you only want to fight? Why don’t you care about preventing bloodshed? You hate people being killed, you hate lives being lost….well start by actually being useful and saving lives!!! But the fact that Goku let the Androids be free means that he cares more about having fun than actually saving lives. When you think about it, Goku is responsible for almost every major death and genocide that took place in Dragon Ball Z. Think about it. It’s Goku’s fault that the Androids got released because he ignored Krillin’s advice, so because of that, it’s Goku’s fault that Cell became complete. Because it's Goku’s fault that Cell became complete, it’s Goku’s fault that Future Trunks died. It’s Goku’s fault that Majin Buu was able to become released as well. Goku’s always procrastinating and dragging his feet.

  78. I want you all to really think about this. Babidi said that they collect energy from the fights to release Majin Buu, so why the fuck did Goku waste time fighting Majin Vegeta? If I were Goku, I would have gone Super Saiyan 3 immediately and hit him so hard in the stomach that it would knock him out, and then blasted Babidi to smithereens. But what does Goku do? He drags the fight on with Vegeta, allowing the release of Majin Buu. So this means that every death at the hands of Majin Buu was literally Goku’s fault. Every death at the hands of Perfect Cell was literally Goku’s fault. And to be honest with you all, it’s Goku’s fault that Cell even exists, because Cell was based on the DNA of Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, and Goku, as well as others like Gohan, Nappa, and King Cold. Well, guess what. If you remove the source of DNA, then Cell wouldn’t be able to exist. Goku went easy on Frieza back on Planet Namek, resulting in Frieza making it to Earth, where Dr Gero could get Frieza’s DNA and clone Cell. If Goku had done what he was supposed to do and eliminated Frieza back on Planet Namek, then Cell wouldn’t exist. So literally, the deaths of two thirds of the series are Goku’s fault. A good protagonist, I think not. And just to add icing on the cake, in his fight with Majin Buu, Goku throws him through a skyscraper. Boy, I wonder how many people he killed in that process.
