"Ghostly Imposters" Creepypasta by RuckusQuantum

It was a rainy midnight, the sky was purely dark and the full moon was difficult to see, when a pale old man entered the gloomy lobby. Wearing a heavily-damped black suit with a suitcase in his hand, the man went inside to check in to the hotel. He walked so slowly and roughly, he barely reached the desk counter within nine minutes from the main entrance. Thereafter, after a brief moment of negotiating with the old man, the person at the front desk finally gave the man's room's key. The golden key, which had an engraving of number “407” clang loudly at the aged man's hand, and gleamed brightly when it's exposed to light.

“Here's your key, sir. It's located on the fourth floor, room 407.” The man at the desk gladly handled the key to the man's wrinkled hands.

“Thank you.” Old man's kind reply. The entire midnight night was sad and vague, as if you're like inside an empty cube. The rain continued to rain cats and dogs down to the roof, echoing an annoying prickling noise. The downpour made a loud banging sound above the roof, but the entire lobby was silent, the same with an abandoned town, like there was no one around.

After few restless hours of waiting in the middle of the middle of a downcast lobby, another old man came inside the hotel. He looked like he's from the bathroom, very neat and fragrant. He also wore an ironed black suit, had a shiny suitcase in his left hand, and a wet umbrella in his right hand. The old-man went to the desk to ask for a room. As he walked above the thick red carpet, everyone looked at his elegant and glamorous posture. It was undeniable, that man was truly a symbol of masculinity. He went near the desk counter and asked the person assigned to it.

“Umm, can I have a room? It was raining hard outside, and this is the only place I came in.” The old man asked while brushing his hair to remove water droplets.

“Oh sir, you just came in this hotel three hours ago. Do you have any questions or inquiries?” The man assigned at the counter hysterically responded.

“I don't understand. I just came here, and I don't have any room or anything in this place. Actually, this is my first time to go to this place. What do you mean with those words?” The old man asked, confused on just what he heard.

“Sir, seriously, you just checked in hours ago. Are you attempting to scare us. If you ever, please stop this right now. We can call the security guards to escort you out the hotel.” The hotel staff nervously told the old man.

“No, I'm not kidding. I don't have anyone with me. For the sake of informatory interests, I don't a twin brother or anything. I do believe in the existence of doppelganger, but these beings are almost impossible to see. If you're one in a million, then it's very rare to see your own face on others. Can you please show me a proof?” The old man demanded.

“Here sir. It's your signature, and it's signed just hours ago.” The staff showed a worn-out book to the man.

“What? I'm not an illogical, nor an ignorant person, but I don't know who signed that. That's not even my signature. Give me a paper.”

The man at the counter swiftly responded to the man's suggestion. As he picked up the paper, the middle-aged man face-palmed himself in anger and disappointment. The paper was put above the oak table, and a fountain pen was given to the man.

The man smoothly demonstrated how he signs his papers. When the old man's signature was compared to the other one, it was found that the other signature was rougher and shakier.

“I told you! It's not mine.” The old man shouted at him.

“Sir, I guarantee. I saw you hours ago. You looked like you were sick, and your clothes and items were dirty. I also saw you come inside that elevator, so don't lie to me!” The man at the counter angrily and fearfully replied.

“How dare you! I already told you, I haven't came to this place before in my whole life. Call the police and search for that man.”

The police was sent speedily to investigate the entire area. No traces of the imposter were found within the vicinity of the hotel. In addition to that case, every narrow and broad corners and spaces of the structure was sought, soon found out no escaping devices were found.

Room 407 was tightly locked. Due to that reason, the duplicate of the original key was used to open the door. What the police found was horrifying. As the police seized the room, everything was wrecked and broken. The wall paint were scrapped, exposing the solid concrete gray wall; when inspected by the detectives, the wall was scrapped by a human nail. Imparting to the serious problem, the golden curtains were ripped off horrendously, and all of the windows were shattered.

The police went down to investigate the ground floor, but no body of the said man was ever found.

The being's whereabouts would remain a mystery, for now. It is mostly referred as a doppelgänger, but found out it was not, due to the beings nature. 62 years after the hideous incident, people's mind didn't forget the rumors, about the beings called “Ghostly Imposters.”
