- Part of our SLA with Time Warner includes a latency guarantee. This means that travel time for data packets will never go above a certain threshold while the packets are traversing Time Warner’s infrastructure. That boils down to a couple things:
- 1. Latency across our Metro-E links (between CNT, CAN, and MIL) is extremely low.
- 2. On the whole, our latency to pretty much everywhere on the internet is considerably lower than if we were using a non-fiber service.
- If we move to a coax-based service, two things will happen with our latency: It will be much higher than it is, and it will be inconsistent. “Inconsistent latency” is basically a large variance in the time it takes for data packets to get from Point A to Point B. This happens on coax internet services constantly, because of constant congestion and because of the nature of cable-based internet.
