    Hi guys

    Just trying to sort out the details regarding the possibility of a Riot event.

    Jordan, last meeting you said Daniel wanted a 8 team showmatch, unrelated to the currently planned tournament, to be held on April.

    Woody has clarified that this is for the uni finalists of the OCC (the upcoming planned event).

    Is there a range of dates that the Riot office would be open, or is it only April 9?

    for the first split if it doesnt make sense. I will keep working to see if we can do May 23rd or whatever the date was for a separate event

    but we arent going to do april 9th and may 23rd.

    My concern, at least for sem 1, is if we go with the big tournament, there's absolutely no way we can get the top teams by then. If we go with an invitational, that's going to dwarf the big tournament, and push out the smaller uni clubs, which currently have a lot of momentum.

    That's right, I don't believe April 9 is feasible regardless of the type of event.

    I'm curious for sem 2, what's the OPL finals date?

    Well I was awaiting the reply from Riot because our current momentum is for a proper tournament.

    There one for april 9th was a invitationals/showmatch. Nothing more then to just show the current 1k viewers of OPL that a collegiate scene is coming.

    and i was hoping if they found it financially viable we'd have our current split be delayed until the next OPL split.

    Not sure what you mean by your first point Jordan.

    My concern with the showmatch idea is it's going to be seen as bigger than the upcoming OCC. I know the presidents have already started marketing in their own clubs and are keen to see an event through on sem 1.

    I think the possibility of a Riot finals is really exciting, but I don't believe the last point you mentioned has been decided by anyone else in the group. From speaking with others they are still planning on going ahead with the current OCC.

    I never made a decision in the meeting I said heres whats happened with Riot, heres what I'm doing.

    I was awaiting the reply from Riot if it was even feasible then I would bring up to the next meeting to decide as a group what to do with that oppurtunity.

    Specifically, I think looking at the academic semester will be important in planning for dates. If we hold the OCC just in sem 2, that's probably not enough time in Aug. If we hold the OCC across a year, that leads to further implications like students who finish courses halfway and having the commit a long period of time.

    Okay heres the deal from my side. I have to raise the business case for this.

    I am confident I can create the business case for 1 Uni grand finals at the Riot office. But only IF it hugely benefits applications and hype for another season of the tournament. (i.e. we run another live grand finals one for OPL split 2 finals)

    whether thats the invitational or the current structure. the important thing is this raises legitimacy, participation and awareness for you first tournament AND the next one.

    It is slated to be August at the moment but none of this is confirmed so we cant talk to others about the OPL split 2 finals date to others

    Is it necessary on Riot's end to hold the OCC finals at the same time as the OPL split finals?

    also for the current showmatch for logistics sake

    is there enough time for us to run a best out of three series or would it only be best of one

    and early August shouldn't be a problem outside of the fact its further away.

    At the end of the day we have to bring this to the group and decide as a group.

    It doesnt have to be on the same day as OPL finals.

    If that's possible, I think it would be a much better solution timing wise. I personally do believe it will raise a lot of awareness, I'm not sure if you would see immediate return in numbers for your business case though. I imagine if a May 23 final at Riot was possible, the biggest impact it will have would be interest for the sem 2 of OCC.

    we'd need to run a new format to get the last two teams if we do that.

    If Riot finals could be confirmed, a solution would be go with the Worlds format, held over the May 16/17 weekend, with the Bo5 finals to be played at Riot. That way, there's 6 days to organise flights.
