That's how one would describe the Unova region after an incident that became known as "The Portal Calamity", when a wave of the so called Legendary Pokémon appeared through portals and causing havoc. It took 15 years for humanity to develop a way to re enter the destroyed region.

However, as the first human stepped foot onto it, what seemed to be a miracle happened. A burst of black and white, before it gained color. The region changed into something never seen before, as if the original region never did exist.
