  1. There's no glitz at this 22-year-old barbecue joint that is just one block from the courthouse in rural Jackson County, Texas. There may be anything glamorous about the restaurant, but there's plenty of great barbecue to be found on the menu from the massive pork ribs to the appetizing sausage covered with Baby J's smoky sauce. Rumor has it that owner Jeremiah Wooten worked on developing the sauce for nearly a year with his son Jason before they opened the restaurant. He was so protective of it at first that he refused to share the secret ingredients even with his mom. If she knows, she's one of only a few because nobody can tell you the secret ingredient. Most of the locals get their barbecue to go. If you want to dine at the restaurant, get there early to get a seat. You might even luck out and get to sit at the picnic table under the big oak in the patio area. If you are ever in Jackson County, Baby J's is worth going out of your way for, but don't come on a Sunday – they're closed.
