  11.
  12. Overview
  13. Operation Equip was created to help bridge the digital divide by providing free computers loaded with educational resources to children, schools and nonprofit organizations that cannot afford to purchase their own computers.
  14.
  15. Children caught in the digital divide today often struggle in school because they do not have access for the necessary tools to do their research, homework and develop general computer related skills that are required in today’s society. These children are missing out on critical elements involved in today’s educational system.
  16.
  17. Mission
  18. Operation Equip is a domestic non-profit that specializes in the collection of old laptops and desktop computers for wipe, repair, consolidation, and redistribution. Once donated computers are refurbished, Operation Equip installs Open Source educational software onto them which are then distributed into impoverished communities.
  19.
  20. Overview
  21. Technology is a game changer, and providing access to computers, software and online resources for those in need is a way to empower individuals and organizations in a multitude of profound and life-changing ways. If we can expand the minds of children and get them used to using computers, we can give them a hand up in education and teach them skills that will be invaluable in their futures.
  22.
  23. Our objective at Operation Equip Inc. is five fold:
  24.
  25. 1. To solicit and collect donated machines.
  26. 2. To wipe, repair and refurbish them.
  27. 3. To create and continually update an Open Source software package to install on the machines.
  28. 4. To identify individuals and organizations that will most benefit from the resources we can provide.
  29. 5. To distribute the machines and provide education in the field to the end users.
  30.
  31. The idea is to give families as much ability as possible to jump start not only their education, but also health/nutrition/finance software for parents. Anything that can be useful should be included in the OS, and we are always open to suggestions for improvements!
  32.
  33. With donation commitments from various government organizations and businesses, and a little bit of time from local community organizations, we can achieve this goal.
