Yozakura Gets a Phone

Yozakura was tired of being the only member of the team without a phone of her own, in fact she'd never had a cell phone in her life. Shiki was the one member who was most attached to hers which made her the perfect choice to ask for help and for Shiki it was a chance to help her friend and sneak in some shopping of her own. At the store Shiki took Yozakura around to showcase every kind and model, she had to pull Yozakura away from some ancient looking candybar model for something that at least came out this decade.

 

Shiki went straight to the top with the latest new smartphones but the lack of buttons confused Yozakura. 'Wait I'm supposed to tap the little numbers on the glass?' Yozakura cupped the phone and pecked at the screen, letter-by-letter 'I keep missing and getting the wrong thing!' She grumbled. Shiki had to show Yozakura how to use her thumb but that didn't help not only did Yoza complain about the lack of tactile response but she baulked at the price 'No way am I spending that much on a phone!'

 

Shiki had to go for the middle of the road with a sensible flip-phone, a worldly girl like Shiki wouldn't be caught dead with a garakei, but for Yozakura a flip-phone is perfect. Shiki tried to get Yozakoo to go for the hot pink colour and cover it in flashy accessories. Yozakura ignored Shiki and gravitated towards a simple, blue phone and went without the gaudy straps or covers for now.

 

Back home at the ninja room, Yozakura coveted the box with her phone and Shiki stretched to relieve the strain from carrying all of her bags. Yozakura opened up the box and pressed at what she believed was the power button but to no avail. She opened the phone up and pressed all the buttons but it still refused her 'Shiki could you come help me set this thing up?'

 

Shiki raced over and played around with the phone 'Oh I think these ones need to be charged or something first and it would help if we put the SIM card in at least.' Yozakura watched on like a country bumpkin or a grandmother as Shiki opened up the phone and hooked up gold connectors. Then came the adventure of finding a wall socket to charge the phone. They plugged in the phone at the closet socket and huddled over it until it came to life 'There we go.' Shiki activated the phone and handed it over to Yoza.

 

Yozakura bashfully handed it back 'Actually there's one more thing I'd like to ask you about.' She nervously tapped her fingers together 'Could you add a phone number for me? I have it right here.' Yozakura took out a piece of paper, well worn from being folded too many times, and presented it to Shiki. 'Just don't tell anyone about this, alright?'

 

'Oh I didn't know people still used paper' Shiki teased. She took one look at the name that went with the number and squealed with delight 'Oh hey, this is a guys number. Way to go Yozakoo!' Shiki entered the contact and prodded Yozakura further 'You know I can add a pic of him and give him a unique ringtone too.'

 

'I don't need anything that fancy.' Yozakura grumbled 'I just need to be able to call him.' She grabbed Shiki by the shoulders and pulled Shiki in close 'And don't tell anyone about this okay? It's gotta be a secret!'

 

'Secrets safe with me!' Shiki grinned. 'Oh and you don't have to call him all the time you can just send a mail.' Shiki opened up the message option and was greeted by a screen she hadn't seen since she was in middle school 'Oh wow I forgot what these old phones were like. Now let's see, this numberpad here you just got to read the pad and tap a bunch of times until you get what you want. See?' Shiki typed out a simple "hello."

 

Yozakura watched with amazement 'So you could write out a message for me? Like if I just wanted to tell him I got a new phone and that he can contact me?'

 

Shiki had a wild smirk 'Sure I can. I'll make a message so moving he'll have nothing but you on the mind. It'll be a Yozakoo-palooza!' Shiki tapped at the keypad until she had a message ready and hit send. 'There you go.' Shiki handed the phone back to Yozakura and let her read what her boyfriend was about to receive:

 

"<3 Hey honeybuns <3 Got a nu phone u shud mail me n stuff whenevs u want a [peace sign] of ur blueberry muffin. Hangin out wit my gfs n braggin bout u n junk. My gf shiki is mega hot but u cnt look k? :P Gonna hook u up with lot of hot pics of me so you wont need 2 look at other girls. ;) Hope u lik lingerie n nitegowns. Ur gonna hav 2 take me sum where nice 2 c more tho. LOL. :D neways luv ya babe XOXOXO <3 4evs. <3"

 

"O an thinkan bout u lots. U make me real hot and heavy and stuff. Got me makin a hot mess. You betta cum take care of it. ;)"

 

"LOL I just said cum :)"

 

'He should respond any second now.' Shiki stuck her tongue out at Yozakura and ran for it. 'Nante ne!'

 

Yozakura went into panic mode and her dialect flowed freely 'I can't let him see this! You didn't send it did you?' Her face turned red and the phone creaked in her hands from the sheer strain of Yozakura strong grip. 'Come back Shiki! You dirty sneak! Come help me please!' Yozakura got up and the charger cable slipped free. She scrambled to the ground and poked it around until she found the socket. Without Shiki to help her she would have to remember what little she'd learned and put it to the test. Shiki had left the phone on the mail screen so now all Yozakura had to do was type:

 

"Hollow there's yozakura igor thank otter massage this nut me more fund sense A messiah Fun me I Wouldn't See stay lick That. I judge went you too knowledge I heard a new phoenix and you cats cull me."

 

The message made no sense whatsoever but Yozakura was desperate to cover for Shiki's mess and not embarrass herself further in front of a guy. She tapped "send" and waited. Instead of a message the phone rang and Yozakura took a chance with the green button on the keypad. It was the right choice 'Hello!?' She sputtered in thick Okayama dialect 'Is this you? Look my friend thought she was being funny, okay? I'm not that kind of girl. I just wanted you to know my number not send you dirty pictures. I mean I can send you pictures just not dirty ones!'

 

He couldn't understand her dialect but he had already figured out the message was a joke on his own. Yozakura even played off her own message as a joke and in her own mind made a goal to learn how to text properly. 'I'm just glad you didn't take it seriously' Yozakura sighed with relief. 'I do like you though, I mean I love you' Yozakura teased at her clothes 'And we should meet up sometime.' She smiled with rosy cheeks when he said he loved her too and set a date.
