#waad #Bahrain
The Central Committee of the National Action Democratic Society (Waad), in its extraordinary meeting convened yesterday Wednesday 6 July, 2011, unanimously voted to elect Dr. Munira Fakhro as its Chair after Abdulhameed Murad submitted his resignation from the same post for health reasons.
The members of the Central Committee conveyed their thanks to Murad for his leadership in the previous term and wished him good health and a speedy recovery.
Upon her election, Dr. Munira Fakhro confirmed that her unanimous election presents her with significant challenges for leading Waad in the upcoming term. She also extended her sincerest thanks to the members of Waad for their unwavering trust.
Additionally, Fakhro stated that she takes great pride in her appointment in this post, especially the chance to play a significant role in Waad's institutional work. She hoped that she will fulfill the tasks at hand to the ultimate benefit of the society.
From his end, Abdulhameed Murad appreciated the requests from the members for him to continue to serve in his post and confirmed his full support for any future appointments assigned to him. He further reiterated that Waad as an institution is fully capable of choosing the appropriate person to preside over the Central Committee and praised the crucial role to be played by Dr. Munira Fakhro in the upcoming term.
Waad's National Dialogue delegation then presented the issues that have been discussed at the sessions in the four pivotal segments which included the political, economic, legal and social parts of the sessions. The meeting confirmed the need for elevating the dialogue from a mere intellectual forum to a more serious and fruitful dialogue capable of radical and permanent solutions to overcome the political crises facing the nation.
In its first session relating to the political segment of the discussions, Waad's delegation recommended making amendments to "Political Societies Law" and changing the same to "Political Parties Law", and accordingly set out details of such amendments on the provisions of the current law in force.
Members of the Central Committee expressed their gratitude for the role played by its National Dialogue delegation presided over by Dr. Munira Fakhro, reiterating the importance of persistent submissions of the visions of Waad and other opposition political societies relating to the four pivotal segments in the National Dialogue.
The meeting ended with discussions on the current unhealthy security status and political crisis that the country still suffers from, which ultimately affect the progress of the National Dialogue. This unhealthy status is evident in the ongoing unfair dismissals form work despite directives from HM the King and subsequent Ministerial orders for the return of all those suspended or dismissed, the ongoing detention of political prisoners in particular Ebrahim Sharif, the Secretary General of Waad, and continued confiscation of Taxis and personal vehicles by the security forces.
The meeting also stipulated that the mechanisms of dialogue remain unclear, vague and are not conducive to attaining the desired results from this dialogue. Fragmentation of efforts and the introduction of various topics that are unrelated and/or technical stray from the essence of this crisis, which is constitutional and political, and ultimately will not yield fruitful and permanent results to resolve the same.
