  1. Overview
  2. If you need to hook up your MacBook Pro to an iMac, rest easy. The two easy ways to do so are FireWire disk mode and ethernet networking. FireWire disk mode is the most straightforward, provided the iMac has an available firewire port. Apple has used two different versions of FireWire in the iMac and MacBook Pro lines, so you will need to make sure you have a FireWire cable appropriate for both machines. Connecting the two Macs through Ethernet is slightly more difficult but can be preferable in cases because both Macs remain operational during the connection.
