  1. chamber of secrets any% guide by slayerkid13

  3. note: this guide assumes you are familiar with the game and does not cover
  4.  
  5. movement.
  6.  
  7. some general tips:
  8. -avoid all challenge stars, these trigger the bean room if enough are collected
  9. -beans are useless, skip them all
  10. -jumping into a ledge to climb it is faster than walking into it
  11. -Moving Platform Boost (MPB) is a useful trick, learn it
  12. -dieing sucks, dont be afraid to get safety frogs or potions. i work 2-4 extra
  13.  
  14. potions into this route as a safety strat.
  15. -spongify tiles negate fall damage, use this to your advantage.
  16.  
  17. before starting a run, there is a few things you need to do.
  18. -if running in windowed mode, you may need to use dxtory to stop your FPS from
  19.  
  20. spiking. Alchemagician on twitch or the #harrypotter irc channel knows how to do
  21.  
  22. this and you can ask him for help.
  23. -set your controls to something comfortable
  24. -turn autojump to off, this is important for a few skips
  25. -autodrink potions is up to you, i recommend you leave it on.

  28. -start your game, timing starts on the first cutscene skip
  29. -make your way through the beginning of the game, using MPB on the 2 flipendo
  30.  
  31. platforms.
  32. -after you escape the tree and are in the grounds, the end of the cutscene has
  33.  
  34. harry pointed to the left. dont accidentally fall down.
  35. -ron has speedhacks and its hard to get in front of him. doesnt save time if you
  36.  
  37. do, just funny to note.
  38.  
  39. -you can preform MPB on the moving staircases by standing on the rails, it saves
  40.  
  41. a few seconds overall throughout the run.
  42.  
  43. -fail the arrow key minigame before rictusempra, it saves time if you get good
  44.  
  45. RNG in the bean room.
  46.  
  47. -proceed like normal in the rictusempra challenge (MPB on the rising platform to
  48.  
  49. save a little bit of time) until the room with the big pit that has platforms
  50.  
  51. around the edges. with a well-timed jump you can go across the pit and grab the
  52.  
  53. ledge. this saves about 30 seconds but is fairly risky. a slower strat is to go
  54.  
  55. for the one just below it on the right, but is about 5 seconds slower.
  56.  
  57. -ignore the turtle on the floor at the end, knock the ones on the tower down.
  58.  
  59. try to not hit the pillars with them, it has weird effects.
  60.  
  61. -with good rng, the bean room will be very quick.
  62.  
  63. -quidditch practice is fairly straightforward, just catch the snitch.
  64.  
  65. -potions class again is pretty easy, hit the chest then stand in the right
  66.  
  67. corner and both ingredients should land on you. be careful skipping the cutscene
  68.  
  69. too soon as it can softlock your game. wait 3-5 seconds before skipping it.
  70.  
  71. -skurge class is where stuff gets interesting, pass all 3 arrow key puzzles
  72.  
  73. -proceed like normal until the room with the lumos statue and the rotating
  74.  
  75. flipendo switch.
  76. shoot the switch and enter the room, activate the lumos statue.
  77.  
  78. be very careful in this next part. stand on the 4th step from the bottom of the
  79.  
  80. stairs, shoot the switch at the bottom, then quickly run back up to the room
  81.  
  82. above you and try to get in before the switch blocks you.

  87. in the room with the big snail pits covered in skurge goo, you can activate them
  88.  
  89. by jumping on them.
  90.  
  91. in the room with the bridge, you can skip dropping the block down by making the
  92.  
  93. bridge flat, then jumping on the outside edge.
  94.  
  95. bicorn horn is really straightforward except for 2 small things. there is a room
  96.  
  97. right after you push the snails+turtles where you are supposed to activate
  98.  
  99. staircases all the way around. instead, just position yourself on the ledge, and
  100.  
  101. walk backwards over it while holding up, and you will land on the lower ledge.
  102.  
  103. puzzle solution is purple then green.
  104.  
  105. its possible to get across the moving platforms without activating them, but is
  106.  
  107. hard+doesnt save very much time. not worth attempting in SS.
  108. when you activate the platforms, jump across the first one then walk along the
  109.  
  110. edges for the rest. this also has a video covering it on the website.
  111.  
  112. rest of the challenge is straightforward
  113.  
  114. diffendo challenge has no huge tricks, except for when you cut the rope in the
  115.  
  116. circular room to open the door. you can cut the rope from the block when you
  117.  
  118. climb up it.
  119.  
  120. shredded boomslang skin has a huge skip, you can shoot the mushrooms to your
  121.  
  122. left after the start, stand on them, and jump to the ledge with the save book,
  123.  
  124. skipping the whole challenge. a video is on the website too. you can get 2
  125.  
  126. wiggentree barks if you want, as part of a safety strat just before aragog.
  127.  
  128. polyjuice potion 1 again has no huge skips, just proceed like normal.
  129.  
  130. polyjuice potion 2 has 1 small skip that saves ~15 seconds where you can cross
  131.  
  132. the skurge bridge before it closes, but is hard. a video of this skip is on the
  133.  
  134. website as well.
  135.  
  136. Spongify challenge, this is really broken. a video of this challenge is
  137.  
  138. available on the website, or if you prefer text:
  139. -you dont need to push the big block at the very start, a precise jump to the
  140.  
  141. corner of the higher platform will let you grab it. in the big room with the
  142.  
  143. pixies, you can jump from the flipendo block on top of the fence, then with a
  144.  
  145. well timed jump you can grab the far ledge to exit the room.
  146. activate the spongify tile, look to your left, and jump on it while holding UP
  147.  
  148. +LEFT, you should grab the highest ledge, then just spongify into the end.
  149.  
  150. Aragog: activate the lumos statue, then jump on the spongify tile on the grass
  151.  
  152. while holding up, and you should go all the way across the pit.
  153. in the main room with the spiral staircase, spongify and land at the bottom
  154.  
  155. instead of using the stairs.
  156.  
  157. earlier i mentioned a safety strat involving an extra 2 potions. right before
  158.  
  159. aragogs chamber, there is 2 flubberworm mucus to your right and a cauldron to
  160.  
  161. your left. if you got the 2 bark pieces earlier, you can make 2 potions here.
  162.  
  163. aragog strat is to just keep moving in a circle while spamming spells, trying to
  164.  
  165. avoid being hit.
  166.  
  167. chamber of secrets: another precise jump at the corner skips needing to go
  168.  
  169. around. spongify to the bottom instead of taking the elevator.
  170.  
  171. the 3 crushers are on a cycle, and if timed right you dont need to slow down
  172.  
  173. while crossing them. proceed as normal until the pixie room. after crossing the
  174.  
  175. first section, fall down to the bottom and spongify off the tile while holding
  176.  
  177. left+up to grab the ledge with the crab on it. knock him off, then spongify up
  178.  
  179. while holding back, and cut the rope, then bounce in to the new opening. proceed
  180.  
  181. as normal until the boss.
  182.  
  183. right before the boss there is ingredients for another potion to your right if
  184.  
  185. you need it.
  186.  
  187. Final fight 1st phase:
  188. -pretty simple, aim for his head while moving around.
  189.  
  190. Final fight 2nd phase:
  191. -the hitboxes on the grates are huge, stand close to the boss and aim high. note
  192.  
  193. that being hit while drinking a potion will negate the potion, annoying glitch.
  194.  
  195. the basilisk should spawn at the grate you are nearest to, but wont spawn in the
  196.  
  197. same one twice in a row.
  198.  
  199. timing ends upon entering the great hall and triggering the final cutscene.
