  1. [19:53] <AnorZaken> so yeah... anyway... how much of the bukkitdev and site-mod staff actually remains? Homepage/community related personel - I'm obviously getting at: is the community part and submission part still running - or dead? :x
  2. [19:54] <AnorZaken> (is it still a platform to release plugins on - or has it turned into an archive)
  3. [19:57] <Dabo> AnorZaken, I don't think anyone is dealing with file submissions or project submissions anymore
  4. [19:57] <Dabo> unless mojang or curse starts doing it
  5. [19:59] == hcherndon|Somewhere has changed nick to hcherndon
  6. [19:59] <AnorZaken> even if cb dies it's still an amazing platform for finding and distribution of plugins - I really hope that part can survive (the fact that it wont be targeting the latest mc isn't the end of the world)
  7. [19:59] == Herogx [~Malachy@109.76.24.14] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
  8. [19:59] == Herogx [~Malachy@109.76.24.14] has joined #bukkitdev
  9. [19:59] <mbaxter> AnorZaken: According to Curse staff they are not currently processing files
  10. [20:00] <AnorZaken> ok :( thanks for the info mbaxter!
  11. [20:00] <mbaxter> They say they won't process anything until new tools are developed for it. Apparently the tools they provided to us for years, that we wanted improvement on but never got, aren't good enough for their own team and now they're finally improving.
  12. [20:00] <AnorZaken> looool
  13. [20:00] <mbaxter> So... factoring in past experiences with curse... let's see
  14. [20:00] <mbaxter> We got BukkitDev in 2011
  15. [20:00] <mbaxter> We were promised improvements
  16. [20:00] <mbaxter> It's currently 2014, without those improvements.
  17. [20:00] <mbaxter> So I'd say ... three years? Minimum?
  18. [20:01] <mbaxter> (joking, I hope)
  19. [20:01] <SpaceManiac> gl curse
  20. [20:01] <Squidicuz> gg
  21. [20:01] == Scavy|away has changed nick to Scavy
  22. [20:01] * AnorZaken puts bukket over head - hides from the world - chews on some salmon...
  23. [20:02] <mbaxter> AnorZaken: Good plan.
  24. [20:02] <Ribesg> mbaxter, you won
  25. [20:03] <AnorZaken> do you mind if I quote this (whole or atleast the part about files not processed)?
  26. [20:03] <mbaxter> quote where?
  27. [20:04] <AnorZaken> bukkit forum, if it matters..? I can send u a link if u want?
  28. [20:04] <mbaxter> I was just curious. If I didn't want it quoted I wouldn't have said it.

  30. [20:06] <AnorZaken> I know... ppl in your kind of position need to think about such things, ^^ I was merely trying to be courteous, doesn't hurt asking first, just in case
  31. [20:07] <mbaxter> My kind of position is resigned, AnorZaken. :)
  32. [20:07] == armed_troop [~armedtroo@pool-108-16-132-93.phlapa.fios.verizon.net] has quit [Quit: Bye]
  33. [20:07] <mbaxter> Bukkit has no more staff, except the Curse staff they brought in.
  34. [20:07] <mbaxter> Who they'd have brought in regardless, so that's not actually related to our resignations.
  35. [20:08] <mbaxter> Apparently the plan was to have us, unpaid, train their three paid staff on how to do the job we've been doing for years. Then those guys would get paid to do what we would continue to do for free, while we wouldn't have any offers of payment.
  36. [20:08] <AnorZaken> yeah, past tense... I thank you for your work! :)
  37. [20:08] <mbaxter> Progress!

  42. [20:09] <lol768> we weren't doing a good enough job apparently
  43. [20:10] <mbaxter> Not a job worth paying for while paying other staff who are unfamiliar with our process and community.
  44. [20:10] <lol768> I'll enjoy watching how the moderation is handled though

  50. [20:12] <feildmaster> I still want to make my project management site, I wanted to do that 5 or so years ago to keep me in check with my own projects, and it ended up being something I only half made... xD
  51. [20:12] <Lolmewn> lol768: Approve the everything!
  52. [20:12] <Ollie> Hello everyone! I am trying to increase the block drop rate , but i need help getting the drop type as i cannot do e.getBlock().getDrops().getType() - For obvious reasons :P
  53. [20:12] <lol768> Lolmewn: Yup, that'll solve it all :D
  54. [20:12] <Lolmewn> Someone make me a meme about that
  55. [20:13] <AnorZaken> hmm... I don't really have anything to add... except I think you did a good job guys! Dont let bitterness get to you - you are all part of internet history, on the positive side! ;)
  56. [20:13] <Squidicuz> mbaxter, that is messed up.....
  57. [20:13] * mbaxter hugs AnorZaken
  58. [20:13] <mbaxter> Notice how my resignation post is positive about my experiences, AnorZaken :)
  59. [20:13] <AdamQpzm> mbaxter, Ouch, is that what pushed the mass resignation?
  60. [20:14] <mbaxter> My experience was definitely positive, overall.

  65. [20:14] <Ollie> AdamQpzm , how can i get the drop material type from a block please?
  66. [20:14] * AnorZaken hugs all of bukkit - arms slightly stretched... xD

  73. [20:15] <AdamQpzm> mbaxter, Ah fair enough. May I ask you how big of a factor, if any, it was for you?
  74. [20:16] <AnorZaken> Lolmewn: approved! *bad pun intended* xD
  75. [20:16] <feildmaster> ooo.. 33% off DisplayFusion
  76. [20:16] <mbaxter> AdamQpzm: I was winding down involvement anyway. I need to dedicate more of my free time to other things, and I was wearing so many hats at Bukkit.
  77. [20:16] <AdamQpzm> mbaxter, Wouldn't it be easier to list the things you didn't do at bukkit rather than the things you did? :P
  78. [20:16] <feildmaster> he really was
  79. [20:17] <lol768> it was the last straw for me personally if you care, AdamQpzm
  80. [20:17] <mbaxter> AdamQpzm: That said, once I heard they intended on using our staff's unpaid time to train paid employees without so much as offering payment to our team for years of work... I had little reason to care about BukkitDev's future.
  81. [20:17] <Squidicuz> </3
  82. [20:17] <Lolmewn> </3
  83. [20:17] <AdamQpzm> Good to know, lol768, and of course I do. Information is information after all.
  84. [20:17] <lol768> :)
  85. [20:17] <drtshock> yeah, same here.
  86. [20:17] <feildmaster> AdamQpzm: they wouldn't know what to compare it to, there were so many jobs at Bukkit
  87. [20:17] <CaptainBern> mbaxter: I hope people will understand our actions a bit more now tho :/
  88. [20:18] <AdamQpzm> Hmm. Definitely not right to get the unpaid people to train the paid ones.

  90. [20:18] <Ollie> How do i get drop items on BlockBreakEvent?
  91. [20:18] <Lolmewn> ahaha lol768 just read your reply, that's so true
  92. [20:18] <feildmaster> You don't Ollie
  93. [20:18] <lol768> Lolmewn: :P
  94. [20:18] <mbaxter> EvilSeph closing down the project is what ended my care for the code side. We were going into maintenance mode for the sites essentially to let the community get help for a while. Curse and Mojang removing EvilSeph from power on the forums dropped my caring about that. Curse's plans for BukkitDev dropped my caring about that. And I never really loved the wiki anyway, so that's out. :P
  95. [20:18] <Ollie> How them feildmaster? :P
  96. [20:19] <Ollie> I need to multiply the drops
  97. [20:19] <feildmaster> Ollie: you do a "best guess"
  98. [20:19] <Ollie> i have, several times
  99. [20:19] <feildmaster> That's all there is
  100. [20:19] <AdamQpzm> Aww, but the wiki is a great place, mbaxter! Just a shame more people didn't read a certain tutorial on it...
  101. [20:19] <Ollie> So how do i multiply the drops then?
  102. [20:19] <AnorZaken> haha
  103. [20:19] <mbaxter> AdamQpzm: hah. It's just not enough for me to stick around, obviously. :3
  104. [20:19] <Squidicuz> there was a wiki?!?(!)
  105. [20:20] <AnorZaken> *dun-dun-dun*
  106. [20:20] <mbaxter> AdamQpzm: and so, technically by being the last actor to kill my desire on a part of the project, Curse was my last straw?
  107. [20:20] <AdamQpzm> mbaxter, Hmm. Good point. Wiki and IRC? :P
  108. [20:20] <mbaxter> Who ever said I was quitting IRC :3

  112. [20:20] <feildmaster> hmm
  113. [20:20] <lol768> mbaxter: I guess you could say BukkitDev was cursed

  124. [20:21] <Squidicuz> hehehe :3
  125. [20:22] <LewsTherin> mbaxter, as well as the rest of you. I applaud your (successful) efforts.
  126. [20:22] <mbaxter> Meanwhile, we've all quit and Mojang has yet to make any statement.
  127. [20:22] <mbaxter> Oh wait that's wrong
  128. [20:22] <LewsTherin> That race was well run.
  129. [20:22] <mbaxter> I forgot that twitter is Mojang official statement source.
  130. [20:22] <kookster> they finally said something?
  131. [20:22] <mbaxter> Here is the Mojang comment on the situation: "And here I thought these people actually cared about the community."
  132. [20:22] <kookster> lol
  133. [20:22] <hintss> ...

  143. [20:23] <mbaxter> So yeah, that's the Mojang response to our resignations after weeks of them not communicating with our team. :/
  144. [20:23] <AdamQpzm> I wonder... what motivation does one have to work for years on a project they don't get paid for other than community love?
  145. [20:23] <hintss> feildmaster: get the itemstack, get the type from that
  146. [20:23] <kookster> i love the comment that is immediatly after that mbaxter "we do, just not you."

[20:35] <ryantheleach> Ribesg, The PR system had a reputation of not getting pulled nearly enough, was often under code freeze, and apparently people from forge had tried to work together with bukkit previously, but I'm sure the bukkit team has their own story for all of that. There appeared to be a culture of developers not liking how things were run, that may have had something to do with it, as well as people assuming that someone else had it under control. It also mig
  226. [20:35] <ryantheleach> ht not have changed things considering peoples reasons for closing the project.

  231. [20:37] <feildmaster> ryantheleach: nah, they just wanted us to do all the work for them
  232. [20:37] <proxa> mbaxter: NEED STAFF, GOOD STAFF
  233. [20:37] <feildmaster> (forge)
  234. [20:37] <EvilSeph> ryantheleach: there was nothing wrong with the PR system. The nature of the project and Minecrafts ramped up development cycle meant that PRs that had been reviewed would probably be invalidated after the code freeze. This was not within our control.
  235. [20:37] <EvilSeph> I love my PR handling process and will defend it to the death.
  236. [20:37] <mbaxter> proxa: sigh
  237. [20:37] <feildmaster> The PR handling was amazing <3
  238. [20:38] <ryantheleach> I never said there was. Just that there was a reputation of such. From what I saw it worked well.
  239. [20:38] <Squidicuz> you burned it into turt's brain :P
  240. [20:38] <EvilSeph> and I'm explaining why that is
  241. [20:38] <kookster> they need to add bukkit to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CbQhQ_By9o
  242. [20:38] <ryantheleach> Sorry, I've just heard it all before. I didn't mean any ill will.
  243. [20:39] <proxa> this takes me back to the crumble of hmod
  244. [20:39] <AnorZaken> despite all things... it sort of makes me happy to see lots of you guys still in here, being friends, gives much needed encuragement and restores some faith in my heart ^^
  245. [20:39] <Chunkr> wow, i did it. i wrote my own permissions plugin o_o

  249. [20:40] <Nijiko> I guess so
  250. [20:40] <AdamQpzm> EvilSeph, I heard that the decision to close the project was as a group discussion, but who actually was in it? Never heard that
  251. [20:40] <slipcor> the red people :)

  254. [20:40] <Chunkr> Anyone here that knows a sane way to handle wildcards in bukkitperms? ( e.g. pex/essentials )
  255. [20:41] <mbaxter> Sane and wildcards do not go to gether
  256. [20:41] <mbaxter> Bukkit permissions are not delimited, they are just strings.
  257. [20:41] <mbaxter> wildcarding requires intervention by a plugin, traditionally by hacking into the system introducing pain and suffering (see: pex)
  258. [20:41] <EvilSeph> AdamQpzm: I didn't decide to close the project, it was already dead at that point. I was simply communicating with the community what the state of things were, like a team lead should do.

  269. [20:42] <AnorZaken> or... batowl? ^^
  270. [20:43] <EvilSeph> the other alternative was to not say anything and disappear, which was not acceptable for me. I felt a responsibility to explain things to the community, hence the letter that was censored/removed/whatever.
  271. [20:43] <Kantorh> EvilSeph is the hero minecraft deserves, but not the one it needs.
  272. [20:43] <AnorZaken> hmm... are u sure thats not the other way around?
  273. [20:43] <EvilSeph> since then, there's been a lot of one sided information and misinformation spreading but I and others have been keeping quiet because once the air gets litigious, you keep quiet.
  274. [20:43] <AdamQpzm> EvilSeph, You could have taken the Mojang PR method™ and made a controversial & ambiguous statement and then no further communication
  275. [20:44] <Kantorh> I always wondered that, but I'm not in a place to argue with Gordon.
  276. [20:44] <drtshock> AdamQpzm: yeah but EvilSeph rarely tweets.

  281. [20:45] <Chunkr> EvilSeph, any idea what will happen next? Since mojang has now claimed ownership over the project, and most staff is now retired, or at #sponge?
