  1. [16:55] <SimpleAone> hi
  2. [16:55] <BigGun_> hi
  3. [16:55] <SimpleAone> i was wondering
  4. [16:55] <SimpleAone> the vampire
  5. [16:55] <SimpleAone> there is vampire v1 and v2 ?
  6. [16:55] <BigGun_> yes
  7. [16:59] <SimpleAone> what is/are the differences ?
  8. [17:00] <BigGun_> the V1 is old and was done by Igor before he knew me
  9. [17:01] <SimpleAone> so it's not a factor in this at all ?
  10. [17:01] <BigGun_> it uses a small FPGA in which only a very stripped down version of Apollo can fit
  11. [17:01] <SimpleAone> no hdmi ?
  12. [17:01] <SimpleAone> no kickstart needed etc ?
  13. [17:01] <BigGun_> no the v1 is not part of this. its legacy
  14. [17:01] <SimpleAone> so ok vampire 2
  15. [17:01] <BigGun_> only the V2 is interesting to talk about.
  16. [17:01] <SimpleAone> i thought 316 were built
  17. [17:01] <SimpleAone> costel thinks 16 :)
  18. [17:02] <SimpleAone> small difference :)
  19. [17:02] <BigGun_> both brian and kippa solder
  20. [17:02] <BigGun_> both are in different countries
  21. [17:02] <BigGun_> so they have to manage the numbering I guess
  22. [17:02] <BigGun_> I think the split the numbering range
  23. [17:02] <BigGun_> to Igor use 0...299 and for Brian to start from 300
  24. [17:07] <BigGun_> makes sense?
  25. [17:18] <SimpleAone> depends
  26. [17:18] <SimpleAone> if igor will keep building them or not
  27. [17:26] <SimpleAone> have you talked with both igor and kepper about our 'negotiating deal' ?
  28. [17:28] <BigGun_> yes
  29. [17:28] <BigGun_> i have some questions
  30. [17:28] <BigGun_> what is your plan with p96 in the future?
  31. [17:51] <SimpleAone> to continue development in whatever way possible
  32. [17:58] <SimpleAone> you don't tell me if igor and kepper are on board :)
  33. [18:17] <BigGun_> yes why should they not be :)
  34. [18:18] <BigGun_> for me a question is how we can contribute to improve p96
  35. [18:18] <BigGun_> I see lot of potential - its very fast already on vampire - but it could be even better
  36. [18:25] <SimpleAone> i can understand your 'eagerness' but instead of doing 20 things at once
  37. [18:26] <SimpleAone> i want to be sure 1 thing gets sorted
  38. [18:26] <SimpleAone> and then move over to the next :)
  39. [18:33] <BigGun_> maybe my question reason is not clear
  40. [18:34] <BigGun_> I see vampire is giving some Amigas new live
  41. [18:34] <BigGun_> soon some hundred vampires will be in the field
  42. [18:34] <BigGun_> maybe even thousand by the end of the year
  43. [18:34] <BigGun_> this is strengthening the market of amiga
  44. [18:34] <BigGun_> and surely also in your interest right?
  45. [18:40] <BigGun_> are you still there?
  46. [18:48] <SimpleAone> on and off
  47. [18:48] <SimpleAone> we have the same goal
  48. [18:48] <SimpleAone> and you are not an open source zealot luckily
  49. [18:48] <BigGun_> but of course I also see advantages of open source
  50. [18:49] <BigGun_> if we will go with Aros - we "own" the OS
  51. [18:49] <BigGun_> this is means zero risk for us for the future..
  52. [18:49] <BigGun_> also it gives us all options to upgrade to Os as we ever like to
  53. [18:49] <BigGun_> and we have the skills to do this...
  54. [18:50] <SimpleAone> there is nothing stopping you :) but i really don't see AROS as a 'competitor'
  55. [18:50] <BigGun_> well ok then
  56. [18:51] <SimpleAone> but do you think people 'want' AROS ?
  57. [18:51] <BigGun_> cyberGFX on aros is free
  58. [18:51] <SimpleAone> i tried it myself a couple of times aswell
  59. [18:51] <BigGun_> compiling this for amiga os takes me only short time
  60. [18:52] <BigGun_> this gives everything p96 gives plus its FREE and we own it afterwords..
  61. [18:52] <SimpleAone> strange
  62. [18:52] <BigGun_> this means we have security foor our project - and are not depending on external unpredictabilities
  63. [18:52] <SimpleAone> mike johnson said the same thing
  64. [18:53] <BigGun_> I assume you agree in this logic?
  65. [18:54] <SimpleAone> the complete opensource logic, if we can't get it from you we just take it somewere else, its easy to write a driver anyway ,
  66. [18:54] <SimpleAone> or
  67. [18:54] <SimpleAone> the FPGA Arcade is not only for Amiga thus no license is required etc ?
  68. [18:54] <BigGun_> you loose me right now.
  69. [18:55] <SimpleAone> so i am sorry to sound 'impolite' but why tell me you want to go the AROS/CGX route if you first wanted to license a kick rom and a P96 license ?
  70. [18:55] <SimpleAone> well mikej basically said that P96 isnt worth a lot, CGX is free so he can do it that way...
  71. [18:56] <BigGun_> mike is right
  72. [18:56] <BigGun_> its easy to see that P96 and Cyber offer exactly the same
  73. [18:56] <BigGun_> now you have to compare the benefits each can offer
  74. [18:56] <BigGun_> this is why I did ask you about your vision, your plans, and your goals.
  75. [18:57] <BigGun_> With Cyber one would get the source and therefore a guarantee for having it forever
  76. [18:57] <BigGun_> This was btw also the same with P96 in the old days
  77. [18:57] <BigGun_> aftere you paid 2 year license you typically got a live license for free
  78. [19:00] <BigGun_> I hope you understand the reason for my question now
  79. [19:00] <BigGun_> As you know the death of Commo did create a lockdown situation for all
  80. [19:00] <BigGun_> in this situation did kill everything..
  81. [19:00] <SimpleAone> so basicallly you say
  82. [19:01] <SimpleAone> if P96 is not developped further or AmigaOS3.X is
  83. [19:01] <SimpleAone> then its more sensible to go for AROS as the control of that is by everyone
  84. [19:02] <BigGun_> Its both about development and about control - so yes you are right
  85. [19:02] <BigGun_> Lets make a devils advocate example.
  86. [19:02] <BigGun_> Lets say we join forces with you
  87. [19:02] <BigGun_> and in 1 year you go bankrupt
  88. [19:02] <BigGun_> then we have nothing - right?
  89. [19:02] <BigGun_> no kick, and no p96
  90. [19:02] <BigGun_> this is situation we do not like to fall into
  91. [19:03] <BigGun_> I like to join forces with you
  92. [19:03] <BigGun_> but we also like to see this as possible partnership
  93. [19:04] <BigGun_> were we both together try to create something big
  94. [19:12] <BigGun_> are you still there?
  95. [19:33] <SimpleAone> as i said its quite busy here with 4 children
  96. [19:34] <SimpleAone> who promises us you will still exist ?
  97. [19:34] <SimpleAone> it goes both ways
  98. [19:34] <SimpleAone> if we would go bancrupt then
  99. [19:34] <SimpleAone> a) all is up for sale
  100. [19:35] <SimpleAone> b) the license given cannot be retracted ofcourse
  101. [19:37] <BigGun_> Well I see no risk for you in case we go bankrupt
  102. [19:39] <BigGun_> It think its good if we speak out all open and you can understand our concern and help to remove it
  103. [19:41] <SimpleAone> if we go bancrupt as i said the P96 rights will be sold
  104. [19:41] <SimpleAone> it is something to think about indeed
  105. [19:42] <SimpleAone> but does that have an impact in the CURRENT SITUATION wrg to Vampire 600 ?
  106. [19:45] <BigGun_> Previously discussion about P96, it was hinted to us that a possible option for us would be that after 2 year license we will own our own copy of p96.
  107. [19:46] <BigGun_> what do you think about this?
