  1. Admin Guidelines
  2.
  3. - Your Role -
  4.
  5. As an admin, your primary duties are as follows:
  6.
  7. - Help players new and old, by providing them an answer to any question they may have.
  8. You should be able to answer most questions about admin policies and game mechanics.
  9. - If necessary, resolve any sort of bug that is hindering the flow of the round.
  10. Common examples include: The emergency shuttle timer being stuck at 59:59, the round not ending, and game crippling lag.
  11. - Act as a mediator in conflicts that have escalated beyond that of an IC issue.
  12. - Punish unwanted griefers.
  13.
  14. You are not permitted to use your powers in unnaceptable ways. These are things that if done will result in an immediate deadmin. Some exceptions to these rules may apply if a carefully orchestrated admin event is underway.
  15.
  16. - Giving yourself antag.
  17. - Using your powers to succeed as an antag or to succeed as security. It is strongly reccomended to deadmin yourself while playing these roles.
  18. - Healing yourself, teleporting yourself away from danger, and spying on deadchat while participating regularly in a round.
  19. - Using your knowledge to meta game with another player.
  20. - Killing, imprisoning, or otherwise messing with players who still have their admin protection.
  21.
  22. - Your Rank -
  23.
  24. If two admins are in a disagreement on how to deal with a situation, the admin with the higher rank makes the decision. If a higher ranked admin allows a lower ranked admin to make a GRIEVOUS error, they can be held accountable. The ranks in order of authority are as follows:
  25.
  26. Host
  27. Head Admin
  28. Ultra Game Master
  29. Game Master
  30. Game Admin
  31. Trial Admin
  32.
  33. You are permitted to use a custom title if you have a rank above trial admin. You need to include your title in parenthesis at the end of your rank. Example: Aurx is a Neck Admin (UGM).
  34.
  35. - Your Attitude -
  36.
  37. You are under a lot less pressure to act professional when it comes to demeanor, words, and actions outside of Admin PM's. There are still some guidelines to follow however.
  38.
  39. - Type properly. Use punctuation, proper grammar, all that jazz.
  40. - Do not attack other players in the thread, admin chat (this is logged you know), or OOC.
  41. - Grudging against other players is frowned upon. It would be naive to think that as an admin, you won't find one guy you really don't like. Try to work around it. Tired of that guy who keeps admin helping and calling you shit? Ask another admin to deal with his admin help.
  42. - Do not attack other admins in the thread, OOC, etc. If you have an issue with their behavior bring it to Pomf or the Head Admin.
  43. - Tripcodes are for faggots.
  44.
  45. - When to PM -
  46.
  47. As a general rule, as an admin, you should be seen as a Silent Watcher type figure. You should NOT resort to PMing anyone until necessary. People get very upset when they have to deal with admins, you should try to minimize all interactions with other players.
  48. If you see what you think is grief you should not PM any player until you receive an adminhelp about the situation. It is the player's responsibility to adminhelp if they feel they are being griefed, if they do not, it can be assumed they are fine with the situation. There is nothing worse then banning someone for what -you- personally think is grief, when those involved are fine with the situation. The obvious exception to this rule are things that are BLATANT grief. Starting a plasma flood, six bombing the station, suspected metagaming, etc. You should absolutely PM players without hesitation if you see BLATANT grief.
  49.
  50. - Investigating Situations -
  51. You have the tools necessary to learn a LOT about the situation. Yes it takes time and effort, but it is your most important responsibility. While investigating, avoid PMing other players as much as possible. DO ask as many questions as you want to the person who PM'ed you. You can learn quite a bit from the logs. If someone adminhelps "being killed 4 no raisan" there is usually more to the story then that. You can right click a player and select view variables. This shows a log of all the attacks that round (on that body). See that they haved tased and lased sec unprovoked? Confront them about it. If the attack logs aren't good enough, look through chat logs. If for example, someone adminhelps they were permad "4 no raison" and won't give you much info, your next step should be to search the chat logs. Control F "starting up" this takes you to the beginning of every round in the logs. Then Control F the HoS, Officer, whatever's name. You will find a LOT of useful information doing this, without having to hassle anyone. Orders to arrest someone, their crimes, sec chat, etc. If this isn't good enough search through using the name of the victim or the job of the victim. See what you can piece together. It should be a lot. If after all of this you cannot figure out what happened, or decide that the other player needs to be talked to send a PM to the other involved player. Tell them what you have learned and ask them to explain the rest. Decide whether a ban is necessary. Have the other admins help you with all of this. Delay the round if necessary, and take your time.
  52.
  53. Sometimes a MASSIVE clusterfuck will happen. Disregard the above if so. You will be 100 percent sure when such a thing happens, it is very rare and involves many people.
  54.
  55. - Accidents -
  56. If a player has done something accidentally that ended up griefing someone add a note to their ckey, give them a warning, and let them go. Banning people for accidents is frowned upon, regardless of the severity. If the same person keeps fucking up in the same way, ban them then.
  57.
  58. - Bans -
  59. Under no circumstances should you ever ban someone without PMing them and explaining to them why they are banned. You are NOT admincurity. Your job is to ban griefers, not to police the actions of every player in the game. If an issue can be effectively handled in game, then no ban is necessary. The things you should typically be banning people for are for removing other players from the round; murder, incapacitation, or imprisonment. Bans should fit the crime. If you are too harsh, you are only encouraging players to ban evade. Ban evasion is incredibly easy and hard to detect. Giving out shorter bans and job bans encourages players to actually adhere to them, and change their behavior.
  60.
  61. -Events-
  62. If you are going to do an admin event, it is strongly encouraged to carefully plan out every single aspect of your event before hand.
  63. At the start of the next round, delay the round and poll the players. Do you want the next round to be an admin event round? If the players vote yes, set the game mode to extended. If no, tough luck. Set a date and time for your event and make a notice for the other players. Smaller events if the station is dead, are fine, just ensure they involve a few people rather then the whole station.
  64. Events should NOT conflict with player created events or antagonists.
  65.
  66. - Antags-
  67. Antags are allowed to do whatever they want. Team antagonists are not allowed to kill their team mates. Confirmed antagonists are valid to kill at any time by anyone. If an antag has killed 95 percent of the crew you are permitted to spawn a deathsquad, wizard, ninja, whatever to deal with him.
  68.
  69. - Admin Protection -
  70. Players can lose their admin protection in varying degrees. Players can lose their protection from other players, and players can lose their protection from admin abuse.
  71.
  72. Other Players
  73. - Spamming comms
  74. - Being a tajaran
  75. - Killing Ian.
  76.
  77. Admins
  78. - ERP
  79.
  80. - AI Laws -
  81. AI laws are a tricky subject. There is no way we can ever come to a consensus on the numerous conflicts that emerge from it. Do not ban people over your personal interpretation of AI laws. So long as their actions are backed by logic that makes sense given a popular school of interpretation, they are fine.
  82.
  83. - Rule 0 Bans -
  84. If you have the rank of Game Master or higher, you can petition to have someone Rule 0 banned. You must create a ban request with the title Rule 0 Ban [CKEY]. In this thread you must provide evidence, logs, etc to support your argument. You must inform the accused of the thread. They will be allowed to defend themselves in the thread. After one week the thread is locked, and all Game Master's or higher vote on whether to ban. A majority (not plurality) is needed for the ban to be enacted. Abstaining from the vote is discouraged. Pomf or the Head Admin can veto this ban.
  85.
  86. - Misc -
  87. - If the round has exceeded two hours in length you can bus harder then usual to end the round.
  88. - If someone has come from outside of 4chan and starts being obnoxious in OOC/IC you can permaban them no questions asked. This is a 4chan server.
  89. - People WILL get mad at you. Nothing you can do about it. Deal with it. If you follow these guidelines all is well.
