- I don't expect you to answer, but hopefully you will. I'll try to make this brief.
- I'm not a GamerGater. I also disagree with some of Anita Sarkeesian's views and the "political movement" she's de facto come to represent. I think questioning the base assumptions of the status quo is fundamental, but I also believe that Anita Sarkeesian's criticism is based on questionable, disputable base assumptions. Evidently, I try to keep my criticism civil, open minded and humble. I will emphasize that I'm far from being a smart person, and there is every possibility that my view of Anita Sarkeesian's text is wrong.
- My question is, is my stance legitimate? If I am right about how Anita's Sarkeesian movement can, if not scrutinized, effectively be hurtful to the medium –and I very well may not be, let me stress that– I would like to have the means to question it and, eventually, prevent it from spreading.
- Does that make me one of... them?
- Clearly it does for some, whose simplistic narratives resist complexity. I know my frustration has no place in this issue but in moments of weakness, of sadness, of anger, I came to resent a side of the argument that would not reflect on itself because of its firm belief that it had the moral high ground.
- Am I wrong? Should I just stand aside and let smart people deal with this and keep my reservations to myself?
- I realize that this whole text could seem like I'm "sealioning", as I learned in your video, but I assure you that it's entirely genuine. I'm just lost. This issue has ran for so long. And nobody will help.
