[01:29:14] * Kimi is hurrying along the sidewalks that next morning, a piece of toast hanging out of her mouth as she moves along with a laptop in its case under one arm, a folded newspaper under the other, and trying to text on her phone at the same time. She's heading towards the hospital.

[01:33:50] [Kimi] {Was thinking about visitng Nicholas first. Ryoko's injuries were more serious and she might still be under.}
[01:33:51] * Jeff leaves his ankle weights in the dorm as he hurries out into the streets, running full tilt towards the hospital while deftly avoiding passerbys like they're just blockers. This is also training!
[01:34:24] [Kimi] Kimi's texting is every bit as fast and precise as her normal 'talking' for what it's worth. She also has a pretty good unlimited text plan.
[01:34:57] * Jeff stops to text back a quick {k} before continuing full speed, possibly even catching up to Kimi depending on how fast she's walking and how far away she was.
[01:36:10] [~castfromhp] The KU Medical Center is located near campus, just across the med school and connected by an indoor bridge that goes over the road there. Like most of the campus, it's shiny and new, layers of new red brick interlaced with glass windows. The roads on both sides around the hospital are absolutely packed with cars, a temporary solution to the construction in the parking lot that was halted by bad winter weather. The path the amb
[01:36:10] [~castfromhp] ulances take to the ER is, of course, still clear. At a brisk job, it only takes maybe 10 minutes from your dorms to get there.
[01:36:15] * Kimi is trying to hurry, but she's having to do so in boots, on the snow covered sidewalks while awkwardly carrying an armful of things. Jeff catches up.
[01:37:33] [~castfromhp] When you arrive at the lobby entrance, you find that it's packed. Lots of it is, as you can plainly see, friends escorting their still-drunken companions out of the hospital.
[01:37:38] * Kimi finishes her toast around this time.
[01:38:37] [~castfromhp] The receptionists are working as quickly as they can, directly visitors to the proper rooms and making sure everyone's processed quickly.
[01:39:23] * Kimi cringes a bit, obviously very very uncomfortable with the huge amount of people here.
[01:39:58] * Kimi sort of... slinks around, trying to avoid bumping into anyone and forcing herself to the desk.

[01:41:29] * Kimi looks like she's borderline having a panic attack as she waves Jeff forward to handle getting them processed.
[01:41:36] * Jeff heads to the desk and gets the attention of the nurse on duty. "Excuse me, we're looking for our friend, Ryoko Shimizu. I heard she was in the ICU?"

Before you even begin to speak, he appraises you and your age, and says in a tired monotone. "Drunks are off to the right, follow the line of-" he pauses at the word ICU. "Hold on a moment."
[01:44:39] [~castfromhp] He taps at his keyboard. "Friends? It's been a while since we've had a New Year's this bad, even up near Soho." He tchs.
[01:45:24] [Jeff] "Yes, we're also looking for a Ryoko Shimizu. We'd like to visit them if it's possible."
[01:45:29] [~castfromhp] "Here, I'll have to get you visitor's badges, but it looks like your friend's resting and doing fine. Room 148." He gestures to the map.

[01:46:04] * Jeff is a bit worried. He gave her first aid, but she got it worse.

[01:54:39] * Kimi shakes her head and pushes the jacket back at him, tappity on her phone. {People. Too many. Not good with. Let's just go.}
[01:55:15] * Kimi hurries right past him, anything to get off the ground floor.
[01:55:57] * Kimi looks for room 148! If it's any good news, Nick and Ryoko's rooms are near each other.
[01:55:57] [Jeff] "Oh... okay then." he says, understanding a bit more. He takes back his jacket and wonders if he's just made an arse of himself before heading up to the first floor.
[01:59:13] * Kimi doesn't seem to give any indication of if he has or not, instead preferring to just head straight to the room. She knocks on the door when she gets there, a timid, almost missable noise if this weren't a hospital.
[02:00:28] [Nick] Nick's scowling, reading the paper when the knock comes, it catches him by surprise, since the doctors just waltz in whenever.  He pauses, setting the newspaper down and his hands in his lap, under a blanket before giving a "Come in!"
[02:01:21] * Kimi pushes her way past the curtains.
[02:02:25] [Kimi] Her eyes glance toward the newspaper a moment, before she nods. She has a copy tucked under her arm, herself. She just moves in to have a seat, wordlessly.

[02:03:29] * Kimi tap tap tap. {It's good to see you weren't seriously hurt. I wanted to come by to verify some things.}
[02:04:29] [Nick] "Better for me than some, at least."
[02:05:44] [Jeff] "You're a bloody stubborn dolt, you know that? The ICU, really? Do you fancy yourself hard, trying to hide your injuries from us and not have me perform basic first aid?"
[02:05:56] [Kimi] {We'll be visiting Senpai once she's awake. It does sound like things got out of hand elsewhere. I wonder what was just mundane violence, and what was... what we experienced.}
[02:07:12] [Nick] He frowns.  "I knew exactly how hurt I was, thank you.  That's why I called an ambulance."
[02:08:10] * Jeff says in a very cold and serious tone, "Those wounds kill people."
[02:08:40] * Kimi opens her laptop, entering in her password - multiple passwords, actually, looks like she has some pretty fancy security on her computer. She's got an Open Office document open with what she's compiled about last night.
[02:09:54] [Kimi] {He's fine.} she types out. {Stop squabbling for a moment, please. We need to go over a few things.}
[02:10:01] [Nick] He pulls up the newspaper with his left hand, making sure the front page is visible to Jeff and Kimi.  "No shit?  There's this bloody mess, and even before I got to look over it, there was another ambulance coming in at the same time Ryoko and I did with a DOA."
[02:11:22] [Kimi] {You did a good job last night, Jeff. No one's questioning that.}
[02:11:49] [Jeff] "You're lucky, plain and simple. What you did was... completely reckless. You could have died to infection. Your wounds might have been more serious than you thought if you were going into shock.

[02:15:37] [Kimi] {Last night at just after midnight, an unexpected beam of light was fired into the sky from the direction of the Bloom. Afterwards, we returned the way we came to find ourselves in a completely different area comprised of a composite of different locations, presumably around campus. These areas were slightly different than standard, their fused geometry notwithstanding, and were inhabited

[02:16:02] [Jeff] "Right. These... shadows as you called them."
[02:16:45] [Kimi] {During our attempt to escape, we came across another such creature, at which we came to possess a power called Persona that by no small reasoning seems to be... supernatural.}
[02:16:49] [Nick] "'course it's goin' to happen again..."  He mutters, looking over Kimi's text.
[02:18:18] [Kimi] {Part of my abilities seem to be analytical - I concentrated on the creature we encountered, and then... I just -knew- some things. It's freaky to say that, you know? But that's just how it happened.}
[02:18:41] [Nick] "Knew which things?"  He leans in a bit, genuinely interested.
[02:20:49] [Kimi] {This is what I picked up. It is a Shadow. I don't know what that means other than it seems to have a relationship to the darker parts of the human psyche. [02:22:40] [Nick] He puts his hand to his face.  "Right nasty business we've got here, eh?"
[02:22:45] [Jeff] "We should look into what's happened to him.

[02:23:15] [Kimi] {More to the point that specific power seems to be able to analyze those Shadow creatures. I could see them, even though obstacles and barriers.}

[02:25:05] [Kimi] {There's also the matter of the Royal Raven. I'd heard about its 'exclusive membership' but didn't know any details.}
[02:25:11] [Jeff] "Maybe we should gather a bit of information until you're out of the hospital."
[02:25:26] [Jeff] "Once you're ready to leave, we can check out that raven place.
[02:26:23] [Nick] "I have classes with Professor Sykes, although I don't know him all that well.  He's pretty ruthless, wouldn't be surprised if he had some freudian 'mommy kicked my puppy' shit goin' on..."  He shakes his head.  "I shouldn't be around here too much longer.  Ryoko's another story entirely."
[02:27:51] [Jeff] "I'd like for us to go together. Though if it's necessary, we could go in groups of two at least."
[02:27:55] [Kimi] (Er, disregard what she said about 'through objects and barriers')

[02:29:31] [Kimi] {Anyway, that's most of what I wanted to talk about. There's another thing, too. Those powers don't seem to be temporary... I was testing them out last night. But they do seem to need a bit more effort than it took before, I can't really explain it.}
[02:29:43] [Jeff] "They said they were all knife injuries. Those are the sorts of wounds you got too."
[02:30:31] * Kimi nods. {I bet it'd be pretty easy to explain something as a knife wound than whatever the heck was in that place.}
[02:30:33] [Nick] "Well you know what they say, magic doesn't exist in reality.  But that wasn't reality, I guess?

[02:32:02] * Kimi unfolds her copy of the newspaper, looking at it.

[02:33:41] * Kimi just nods. {I have to be honest, I don't know what to make of this... I'm trying to think about it rationally? But... there's nothing rational about this. It's either magic or pseudoscience.}

[02:34:25] [Jeff] "Maybe we've got to accept that magic IS rational."
[02:34:40] [Jeff] "If we were insane... well then I'd say we're so far gone that we might as well just roll with it."
[02:34:50] [Nick] "Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.  Let me know if your head clears up and suddenly it all starts bein' normal again, I'm prob'ly too far gone, myself."
[02:35:57] * Kimi just... leans back in her seat, staring up at the ceiling for a moment.
