Well, I once again find myself facing an appeal, only this week I am on the other side of it. As you may all know, there were quite a few passes made on this Friday, and at the end of the night, I found myself in possession of the bad thing. While, I know some of you may be bitter from the previous week, it is important to uphold the standard of removing personal bias when judging this appeal. I know that as esteemed bad thing members you will maintain this standard by default, but I know how difficult it can be to remember the rules of the constitution when caught up in the heat of the moment. I will illustrate this principle to you in the following scenario.
Now imagine that after a long night of Sports Nite, you’re at home restocking your ice cream in the freezer when you hear a doorbell. You know that your friend is coming over soon so you go to the door and suddenly you hear yelling. Upon looking out the window, you witness a struggle and your friend screaming, “Amy, NOOOO----“ only she gets cut off with a hand going over her mouth. Fearing that something serious might be going on outside you open the door and at that moment someone pushes past you, enters the house, and drops the bad thing on the ground. At this point, you’re still more concerned for your friend and getting this intruder out of your house than you are for the dropped object, but after a split second you realize that it’s the bad thing. You freak out at the said intruder, and then he bolts. So you chase after said intruder with the BT, but he escapes by entering a car driven by a bad thing player. You then return to the house and find your father up in arms thinking that the intruder was some sort of thief or criminal, and while you try to comfort your distraught friend. It’s now close to 11:30 pm, so you make a valiant effort to get rid of the bad thing, but unfortunately you fail to make the pass.
In the case of this scenario, I believe that you, as true bad thing players, will find several violations of the constitution. Firstly, there is Article 1, Section 4, which states that the giving of the bad thing must be secretive. I know that we have the whole “No Bad Thing” saying, but this article doesn’t specifically state that those words must be stated. It’s more about the realization of “oh shit, it’s the bad thing in my house get it out/stay away” than anything else. In this case, I didn’t even have to open the poorly used handkerchief to realize that it was the bad thing that the intruder dropped. Granted, I could have simply said “no Bad Thing”, but I was more worried about first, the well-being of my friend, and then the intruder who essentially broke into my house. In bad thing, passes are supposed to be admired for the skill, finesse, and creativity involved, and there was very little of any of this last night. Of course, it is only the second week and we’ve had a bit of a rough start in the past few weeks, so it’s understandable.
The part that actually irks me about the pass was the fact that someone used force on my friend who was an innocent bystander to get the bad thing into my house. She was first asked to take the bad thing and give it to me, but knowing about the game she refused. The intruder then tried to go for my front door (which was locked), but my friend being the excellent friend that she is attempted to shield my door in the off chance that it was unlocked. It was then, that she was pushed away from the door. She then attempted to call me to warn me, but the intruder pushed the phone away from her head and rang the door bell. He then used her body as a shield and when she tried to verbally warn me through the door, he covered her mouth. When I did open the door, he then proceeded to push past me and drop the bad thing in my house. The application of force in order to get the bad thing into someone else’s possession is strictly prohibited in the constitution (see article 3, section 4). I know that the people who made this move did not mean for any of this to happen and simply got caught up in the moment of the game, but it’s important to realize that this sort of behavior is not acceptable - not in life, and not in Bad Thing.
This is the exact sort of move that would be held as a “douche bag move” as defined in Article 8. If you were to ask yourself, “would a douchebag do this?” then the answer would be yes. Of course, I don’t mean to offend or call said person a douchebag, but the game has simply gotten to people and made many non-douchebags act in a douchebag manner. I know this person is not a douchebag because he has apologized, but I think it’s important for everyone to remember Article X. Bad Thing is just a game, and therefore, desperation does not call for one person to use force on another, even if the person who uses force is simply an instrument of the Bad Thing Player.
I hope that you all agree with me that what happened is something that we don’t want repeated and violates the BT constitution. Thus, I request that you accept my appeal and I await your votes. In the meantime, I believe that my friend deserves an apology from the player who used the intruder to get the BT in my house. I know this person will do what’s right, so I hope that he/she will understand the full ramifications of how distraught my friend, my family, and me were last night thanks to his/her actions.
