  1. As you see, I'm writing this from my gmail account. Google is awesome.
  2. I use the heck out of their services.
  3.
  4. But email is such a basic, important and sensitive component of ones digital existence, that I
  5. want to "own" my own emails.
  6.
  7. I've heard LAS talk about roundcube, but that seems to only be a client?
  8.
  9. I have a server (ubuntu server 10.04 on a slick atom mini-itx, much
  10. like Chris' bitcoin rig) that's on 24/7, I have my own domain name
  11. (from godaddy, it was of course purchased with the LINUX code) which
  12. is pointed to my static IP.
  13.
  14. So my question is:
  15. Is it possible to make my ubuntu server an email server and to put a
  16. roundcube interface on the same machine, so that I can access my email
  17. from the web, just like I use gmail now?
  18.
  19. And how can I do it?
  20.
  21. Do I have to purchase an email service from godaddy? Or is the domain
  22. enough, if my own computer handles it. And is it even feasible to do,
  23. considering all the spam and such.
  24.
  25. It would be fantastic to get kind of an "all inclusive" explanation of
  26. this, as most guides online only talk about one specific part of
  27. setting an email server up - and it confuses me. It's pretty
  28. embarrassing to be confused on such a basic matter - and i'm probably
  29. not the only one.
  30.
  31. Thanks for beeing an amazing network. I love almost every show that you produce.
