- 4:05 PM - lorr: what's the story behind this world you're talking about with the ausar and shit? i'm guessing it's relatively modern since college stuff
- 4:06 PM - ku: it's like
- 4:06 PM - ku: well it was started as a setting for erp to link characters together but i've been thinking and fleshing it out more
- 4:06 PM - ku: it's maybe like
- 4:06 PM - ku: 50-100 years forward from now
- 4:06 PM - ku: alternate universe
- 4:06 PM - ku: not earth or anything
- 4:07 PM - ku: planet is named gaia at the moment
- 4:07 PM - ku: magic exists but is really low-power and is mostly used alongside modern medicine in medical applications or for transmutation or minor conjuration and evocation, it isn't really powerful enough to use for combat and has lots of limits
- 4:08 PM - ku: and relatively rare and most people who can use it are encouraged with scholarships and stuff to go to special collages but not forced to
- 4:17 PM - ku: anyway the twins were raised by single mom since 6 or so and april kinda had to become dad then second mom as she transitions but it's really hard on her because she tries really hard to look mature and stuff for other people especially for the twins because she's kinda second mom because mom is so busy but she's having a really hard time adapting to adulthood
- 4:18 PM - ku: mom is a medical witch or something. i know she's got magic and that's why she's so busy because that's kinda the warlock's life in this world they're so rare and necessary they're really stretched thin and constantly busy
- 4:18 PM - ku: just dont know exact field for her
- 4:20 PM - ku: i dont really have a good picture for this character since she's kinda based on erika chiba visually but not character wise but she's human so I cant really make her great in whirled
- 4:20 PM - ku: http://i.imgur.com/7eTZqAY.png
- 4:20 PM - ku: kinda ignore the ears they're supposed to be hair fwoofs
- 4:20 PM - ku: and of couse she's supposed to have normal human legs
- 4:21 PM - ku: that's Crystal though
- 4:21 PM - ku: she's april's girlfriend
- 4:22 PM - ku: april lives with her because she's unemployed and honestly isn't really able to live alone because of stuff
- 4:22 PM - ku: april is really sexual and outgoing around people she kinda knows or are good acquintences but has really weak self confidence internally and second guesses a lot of her stuff constantly and is also kinda weak under pressure and tends to lean really hard on her closer friends and constantly asks them for help and advice and if she's good enough and a lot of the self confidence issues and stuff come from her transition and stuff.
- 4:23 PM - ku: and she doesn't have a job or anything, she's in college but keeps moving around to different subjects and majors and can't decide what she wants or should do for a living and she has a hard time and really forgets to take care of herself when she's alone so she relies really hard on Crystal
- 4:25 PM - ku: sometimes her relationship gets strained by that, i don't know much about crystal but stuff gets kinda strained because she has to support them both right out of highschool while she's doing night school and take care of april on top of it but she really honest-to-god loves her and wants to be there and spend life with April
- 4:26 PM - lorr: wow uh
- 4:26 PM - lorr: that's a fair amount of thought you've put into this
- 4:26 PM - lorr: and that's really good
- 4:27 PM - lorr: i'd love to help you flesh it out a little further but i'd need to know a little more about the world before i make a character
- 4:28 PM - lorr: like gaia and the criteria for magic and the social stigma it has and how it's affected the day-to-day life of people and shit
- 4:28 PM - lorr: when i make a character i like to really root them in that world and have a lot of things tie into other things
- 4:29 PM - ku: it doesn't really have a social stigma
- 4:30 PM - ku: magic has been ingrained in the culture for over a centurie or multiple centuries mostly any stigma is between people who are magic-aactive and inactives but people with magic are more seen in the same way fuck i cant think of a real life parallel but i think there is one
- 4:31 PM - ku: like it's been ingrained and devillanized for long enough and magic just isn't fast or spontaneous or really even harmful enough to pose a real threat to people so the general public doesn't feel threatened by the magic populace
- 4:31 PM - ku: and it's rare but it's not RARE rare it's like maybe 1 in ten or one in twenty or thirty or so children have magic and maybe one in fifty or sixty have the ability to consiously control it
- 4:31 PM - ku: not like one in millions
- 4:33 PM - lorr: hmm
- 4:33 PM - lorr: that's pretty interesting
- 4:33 PM - lorr: if you do want me to join in i totally can but i'd need to know like
- 4:33 PM - lorr: just a tiny little bit more about the setting
- 4:33 PM - lorr: like where on gaia is it taking place? what kind of a society is it - one parallel to ours?
- 4:34 PM - lorr: what kind of technology is commonplace there?
- 4:35 PM - ku: maybe a REALLY really strong magician could cause air to combust and it could cause burns and bruises and knock someone around but it would take a LOT of focus and practice and intellegence to understand how atomic combustion works and it just wouldn't be very powerful compared to the sheer amount of energy and concentration and time it would take to analyze and plan out the action
- 4:36 PM - ku: and they'd have to be a savant-level of magical prodegy to even think about it
- 4:40 PM - ku: and
- 4:40 PM - ku: it's parallel but about 100 years in the future technologywise-if our government wasn't ass retarded all over the world
- 4:42 PM - ku: i don't know about the government there but my thought is it's kinda two main superpowers one western-insipired which is the one our characters exist in and a smaller but stronger one that's more millitaristic and stuff and is kinda eastern + old european inspired
- 4:42 PM - ku: and many smaller fringe nations but they're really reliant and puppeted by the superpowers
- 4:44 PM - ku: the world is a lot
- 4:44 PM - ku: smaller
- 4:44 PM - ku: than ours
- 4:43 PM - lorr: that's pretty fair enough then
- 4:44 PM - ku: like each superpower is maybe a third the size of america at most and maybe the size of a european country? dunno
- 4:44 PM - lorr: there aren't developmental gaps in each nation like we have in our world, right?
- 4:44 PM - ku: there are
- 4:44 PM - ku: but
- 4:44 PM - ku: mostly on the minor nations
- 4:44 PM - lorr: hm
- 4:45 PM - ku: like
- 4:44 PM - lorr: where is this story taking place? like, in what nation?
- 4:45 PM - ku: well all our characters are just normal people it's more of a slice of life thing but they live in the western nation
- 4:45 PM - lorr: i guessed it was a slice of life thing yeah
- 4:45 PM - lorr: with the whole school thing and shit
- 4:47 PM - ku: like slice of life in literal slice of life at least mine are involved and realized characters or im trying at least that have realistic problems and worries and issues not like anime schoolgirl shit
- 4:47 PM - lorr: yup just as i guessed
- 4:47 PM - ku: the closer ones have almost as good technology as the superpowers and as you move outward it moves down to around our world's technology level in real life
- 4:48 PM - ku: and then it gets to like, south korea or middle america on the VERY edges of the more outer islands and countries
- 4:48 PM - ku: but only a few
- 4:49 PM - ku: like modern second world countries are their africas and south americas and middle easts
- 4:49 PM - ku: in terms of governing and technology there's no massive diseasestruck poverty warlord nations
- 4:49 PM - ku: mostly by virtue of the world being smaller.
- 4:49 PM - lorr: that's pretty interesting
- 4:51 PM - ku: the eastern nation which is kinda the exotic them in the story is a democratic replublic kind of thing while the western nation is a sort of benevolent autocracy
- 4:53 PM - ku: they kinda have a cold-war peace in that their cultures are diametrically opposed but they have open trade and it's not all that hard to move between the two superpowers for work visas and such but there's still some tensions and a bit we're us and they're them and they're not like us mentality
- 4:53 PM - ku: but it's an us AND them mentality not an us VS them
- 4:54 PM - ku: maybe there was an open war a while maybe a few generations back that's somewhat in mind but people are wanting it to not be a thing that happens again
- 4:56 PM - ku: there's a third country i'm thinking but it's a lot smaller but still way bigger than any of the other nations and wants to be neutral but control or influence over it is kinda a hot topic because that country is where most of food or resource productiona nd farming is in so it's a really important country but also both countries have a vested interest in all three staying neutral with eachother
- 4:59 PM - lorr: so like
- 4:59 PM - lorr: sort of saudia arabia but with amazing crop potential in addition to their oil reserves
- 4:59 PM - lorr: saudi*
- 5:00 PM - ku: more like
- 5:00 PM - ku: middle maerica
- 5:00 PM - ku: middle of the US
- 5:00 PM - ku: mixed with saudi arabia
- 5:01 PM - ku: a lot of the oil is in the northern isles which are a loose trade orginization of countries with trade princes that are kinda a mix of saudi arabia and the nordic states haha
- 5:01 PM - ku: the third country is the breadbasket of the world
- 5:01 PM - ku: oil and other minerals, oil isn't used as an energy source it's a unit for produciton in plastics and other materials
- 5:02 PM - ku: netiher the superpowers really produce their own food
- 5:02 PM - ku: like they can but they wouldnt be able to support themselves alone very long
- 5:02 PM - lorr: and it's safe to say that these smaller fringe nations do do the things that this third country does, just not on nearly as large of a scale as it?
- 5:02 PM - lorr: varying nation to nation ofc
- 5:03 PM - ku: yes
- 5:02 PM - lorr: and it's a single, pangaea-like landmass right?
- 5:03 PM - ku: no
- 5:04 PM - ku: it's a major landmass that the main three are on and some fringe nations surrounded by many greenland and new-zealand and iceland sized isles
- 5:04 PM - ku: the eastern nation has several major cities, with the capital being the third biggest one
- 5:05 PM - ku: the western nation has one huge city with several districts that are somewhat independantly governed but ruled by the main government in the center
- 5:05 PM - ku: the city is two-leveled with the upper plate being more highclass and expensive and the lower plate being more everyday
- 5:05 PM - ku: The Plate and the Floor are what I'm working with right now
- 5:06 PM - ku: like an absolutely massive city based on midgard from ff7 but without as huge a wealth gap
- 5:06 PM - ku: a few other cities around outside the huge one but they're kinda like the other towns in upstate new york rural, nice but not very important? i guess mostly for people who want to get out of the big city
- 5:07 PM - ku: all our characters live in the floor
- 5:08 PM - lorr: honestly i really enjoy playing with the idea of stark and harsh social classes and issues in roleplay, and wealth gaps are an interesting if typical way to toy with that
- 5:09 PM - ku: like there's a wealth gap but it's authorical nation albiet a socialist autocracy
- 5:09 PM - ku: so it's not like ameircan 1% and poor people and nowhere near elysium or something
- 5:09 PM - ku: the culture between the floor and the plate are very different though
- 5:09 PM - lorr: oh no i wasn't thinking elysium
- 5:10 PM - ku: the floor has a more standard culture we're used to wheras the plate is very social butterfly with a more almost renessance feel with everyone knowing people and being seen, like reneissance nobility and very tight social circles and who's who, very family based too.
- 5:12 PM - ku: people generally only move between them to visit or if their occupation takes them there, most warlocks are taken to the plate, not by force or anything but that's where all the sanctioned magical collegates and most magical departments are located
- 5:13 PM - ku: so if someone moves between them for work or marrying into a family from the other part there's generally a huge culture shock
- 5:14 PM - ku: west nation has a very white futuristic but also somewhat grand and classical european feel
- 5:15 PM - ku: kinda
- 5:15 PM - ku: a lot like this
- 5:15 PM - ku: http://lava360.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/skyscrappercity.jpg
- 5:16 PM - ku: but with a little of this
- 5:16 PM - ku: http://i.imgur.com/XgPtXAP.jpg
- 5:16 PM - ku: in the plate
- 5:16 PM - ku: and a more... down to earth but still futuristic feel
