Dark Souls lore guesses

Things i noticed. (UNFINISHED, first written 8/6/16)


The 2 portals that the Darklurker use to cast some of its spells are identical to the Darksign and that "hollow" version of the Darksign in the "Lord of Hollows"

ending. These are also what the "sun" looks like in DS3 after you've killed the 3 Lords of Cinder before fighting the Dancer. The "Hollowsign" also looks very similar

to the image used for Velka's miracle, Karmic Justice.

Human Dregs look extremely similar to the Rite of Kindling from DS1.

The Lords/Gods don't hollow. Gwyn wasn't hollow, he was just crazy. Likewise Nameless's face looks very similar to Gwyn's while Gwyn was in the Kiln, but there's

nothing to indicate that Nameless is hollow/crazy in any way. Outside of these two examples i can't think of any Lord who's confirmed to have gone Hollow. Hollowing is

an exclusively human trait.

I'm calling it, Lothric and Lorian are directly related to Gwyn (as in family).

DS3 is the first game where there's been no "true" dragon. DS1 had the dragons in the intro, Seath, that dragon in Ash Lake, and Kalameet, oh and also Gaping Dragon.

DS2 had the Ancient Dragon (which may have been a fake) and Sihn. DS3 lacks any kind of dragon though. Everything is either a Hybrid like the Snakemen or Oceiros or a

Drake (which are dragons who lack forearms and tend to be rather feral), neither of which are "True" dragons. Related to this is how DS3 is the first DS game where

there's no Dragon Covenant.

Also related to this are Crystal Lizards. It's been a theory of mine that they're actually baby Dragons and/or Drakes for a long time now, and rock lizards at

Archdragon Peak practically confirm it in my mind.

Lothric DID become a Lord of Cinder (you can see he has the Lord of Cinder textures on his clothing during the second stage of the boss fight).

The Red Knight (AKA Soul of Cinder before he linked the Fire) is going to be an important character in at least 1 DLC.

Man and Dragons have some weird link that hasn't been properly explored. Something to do with the Curse and Dragons immortality.

Caitha is the only God from DS2 that's mentioned in DS3. She's now heavily associated with Carim and interestingly her Chime has similar effects to Velka's Talisman.

Untended Graves are NOT an alternate timeline or something. I mapped out the geography of the world and Untended Graves would physically be under and adjacent to the

building Lothric and Lorian are found in. There are other hints as well, check the Hidden Blessing description and note that the word "dark" is not capitalized like

they use when referring to the Abyss/Hexing/etc.

Likewise Firelink Shrine is a physical place. If you're at the Grand Archives looking at the building Lothric and Lorian live in, Firelink is on the opposite side of

that building. You can't see Firelink from anywhere in the game as buildings or mountains are always in the way, but if you're at Firelink and looking outside you can

see that the giant building is actually the back side of where Lothric and Lorian are. Check for yourselves if you don't believe me, it matches up.

Dried Knuckles are the fingers of Crow Demons.

The particles used for Nadalia's Warmth in Iron King are very similar to the ones used for Lothric's small orbs during his second phase.

Magic involving the cosmos (Sun, Moon, Stars, etc) are all Faith based as evidenced by Darkmoon Blade, Sunlight Spear, Heavenly Thunder, etc. This is why the Sorcerer

Astrologists from DS2 were unable to get their magic to work, they were using the wrong type of magic.

DS3 Firekeeper is "evil".

The Imperfect from the first DS2 DLC and the Pus of Man are related.


This one is more a reminder than anything, but the state you're in when you've used an Ember and have extra HP is officially referred to as "Lord of Cinder" mode.

Apparently it was on the official site for the network test, but i can't find it now.

There will be at least 1 character but probably a few who are linked to Frost/Ice/Ash/Life in the same way Gwyn, Nito, the Pygmy, and the Witch are linked to Sunlight,

Death, Dark, and Fire. A Lord of Ash and/or Frost and Lord of Life so to speak.

Velka's the narrator in DS1 and DS3 and is still "alive"/active. She's also not a Lord like Gwyn and friends and is a proper immortal of some kind. <spoiler>She may or

may not also be the mother of Gwyn's children.</spoiler>

Velka is the one who made the Undead Curse.

We're gonna enter a ice/ash themed DLC from that one building in Irithyll that has the pictures of Gwynevere and Nashandra in it.

Fog Walls are portals through time/timelines/worlds.







A lot of the "fundamentals" of the Lore don't make sense. Dragons are everlasting but can die? Magic types as a whole are weird (there are at least 2-3 kinds of "Dark"

for instance). Humans are pygmy Lords, but why can they (partially) transform into stuff like Dragons, Demons, and who knows what else and why are there so many more

Humans than Lords? Did Lords exist before Gwyn and friends took their souls to become badass? What exactly <i>is</i> Estus? What's going on with the East? Is the world

built on Archtrees?
