- 7:04

- Oooh. The bait shop creeped me out a little. ^^:
- 7:08
- Mimness
- Can I just ask, how did you decide to balance the amount of 3D stuff with the the amount of text stuff?
- 7:09
- Cheeseness
- Sound design in this game is amazing
- 7:09
- medacris
- I need to look up the adventure game someone compared this to last week. Portal (no relation).
- 7:09
- Syd
- I have to say that one of my favorite aspects of Kentucky Route Zero is the ambient sounds.
- 7:10
- Cheeseness
- There's a reference to PPortal in this a bit later
- 7:10
- cc_jake
- Mimness: we try to balance different kinds of "suggestiveness" -- so like some stuff can be really suggestive if it's just-visual, and some if it's just-textual. I guess we're experimenting with what is interesting to omit
- 7:10
- medacris
- Mm. Again, excellent atmosphere. Sometimes the sound and description is all you need.
- 7:10

- 7:10
- Mimness
- Awesome, thanks.
- 7:11
- yama
- I find that the text with sound alone makes it feel like I'm there myself.
- 7:11
- Syd
- The excellent ambient sounds really helps your imagination fill in the rest.
- 7:12
- yama
- Wait, I'm not sure I got the same thing from reaching into the tanks...
- Been a while since I played this act, though...
- 7:12
- Cheeseness
- I hadn't actually been to the bait shop before encountering Shannon until my third playthrough

- eh either.
- 7:15
- Cheeseness
- yama: I'd also missed a bunch of stuff underground on my early playthroughs >_<
- 7:15
- yama
- Hearing this makes me want to replay the acts.
- 7:15
- Kim
- You totally should! I got so much more playing the 2nd and 3rd times
- I missed A LOT in Act II
- 7:16
- medacris
- I love the push toward silhouettes in gaming as of late, it's an aesthetic I've always been fond of
- 7:16
- kacy
- Well, and it's super important in terms of basic character design, too!
- 7:16
- Cheeseness
- I love that we've just switched who we're controlling
- 7:16
- GameClubFan_540218 [47cea08a@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
- 7:16

- Kacy: Indeed! TF2 and DoTA 2 were intentionally designed so everyone had a unique silhouette, for example.
- 7:17
- Cheeseness
- cc_jake, cc_tamas: Why the horseshoe throwing motif for moving?
- 7:17
- TheMightySwordfish [4d6312c9@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
- 7:17
- Cheeseness
- And now we're directing Conway's dialogue again
- 7:18
- cc_jake
- Cheeseness: ha, just a playful experiment that stuck i think ...
- 7:18
- Cheeseness
- 7:18
- kacy
- medacris: And you can totally tell just by looking at them. A distinguishable silhouette is what helps each character stand out from the rest! Which is great for distinguishing character classes.
- 7:19
- Mimness
- Where did you get your character inspirations from?
- 7:19
- medacris
- I really do feel like I'm in a sleepy Southern town reading the dialogue.
- 7:19
- Syd
- I like that foggy effect on the word "Zero" whenever it shows up.
- 7:19
- yama
- Syd, I was just thinking that, too.
- 7:19
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, that is great
- 7:20
- cc_jake
- we got that idea from "House of Leaves"
- the word "House" is always typeset differently from the other text in that book
- 7:20
- Babar left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 181 seconds).
- 7:20
- yama
- I like how there's not a whole dialogue tree to exhaust and that we only get to pick one choice to progress the dialog.
- 7:20
- medacris
- @cc_jake: Everyone I've known who read that book absolutely loved it.
- 7:21
- cc_jake
- medacris: it's pretty cool! especially if you're into genre stuff, it's a really interesting take on the haunted house genre
- 7:21
- Kim
- cc_jake: Rad! I love how much thought and attention to detail you put in this game.
- 7:21
- Cheeseness
- The visual style of KR0 changed a lot from the Kickstarter pitch vid. How long did it take you to arrive at this style?
- 7:21
- kolcoont [8e810885@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
- 7:21

- 7:22
- TheMightySwordfish left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 7:22
- cc_tamas
- Cheeseness: yeah maybe about a year? There was an 'intermediary' art style along the way that was somewhere between the original kickstarter look and our final one
- 7:23
- Fhqwhgads
- what was that?
- 7:23
- The_Mad_Pirate [b5a5e95a@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.

- So I had my lights out at the turntable the first few times I played >_<

- 7:27
- medacris
- @Kim: It's okay. And yeah. I wish more horror movies nowadays did that. And I love the worldbuilding!
- 7:27

- I have music that sounds like this
- 7:30

- dude, why are you going through the tunnesl with the lights on??
- 7:37
- cc_ben
- Cheeseness: I've really enjoyed working on the game. I had been working with similar musical material around the time that I did the stuff for Act I, so it felt like an extension of what I was already into at the time. Regarding the amount of music in the game, I actually made a bunch of music for Act I that didn't make it in but might pop up in later acts.
- 7:37
- cc_jake
- if the sun dies, we'll definitely have to delay unfortunately

- The_Mad_Pirate
- like "Conway : I see dead people , walking around like regular people. They don't know they are dead"
- 7:40
- cc_jake
- in those theatrical forms, the chorus sometimes acts as a voice for the audience, judging the characters or asking them questions
- 7:40
- Cheeseness
- I've never stayed in the tram before
- 7:40
- cc_jake
- so this chorus is a group of "players"

- 7:41
- Cheeseness
- I really do like that I find new stuff each time I play
- Conway can go back in?

- Kim
- I tried doing a quick playthrough once to try some things out, but if you don't visit certain things within the mine, the shack doesn't show up when you come out!
- 7:43
- yama
- Whoa.
- 7:43
- cc_tamas
- the rgb motif just feed back into the recurring tv/video imagery
- 7:43
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, I didn't spot the shack until my fourth playthrough
- 7:44
- yama
- Heh...
- 7:44
- Syd
- I got the shack on my first playthrough. I suppose I was lucky enough to do enough exploring in the mines to get it to appear.
- 7:44
- yama
- Did everyone pick a different name for the dog with each playthrough?
- 7:44
- Fireflower
- love shack?
- 7:44
- GameClubFan_540218

- 7:44

- I picked "just some dog" or whatever one of the times
- 7:44

- I've only played through once so far, and I picked Blue
- 7:44
- Cheeseness
- I love the "together" icon
- 7:44
- medacris
- Mm, banana chips.
- 7:45
- GameClubFan_519892
- If you pick "dog I found"
- conway calls him "old man"
- 7:45
- Kim
- cool
- 7:45
- GameClubFan_728650
- I like the way that it took games like MGS2 all the way until its finalle to reveal its whole meta-commentary thing but KRZ takes about 5 minutes haha
- 7:45
- cc_tamas
- Cheeseness: cool, that one took some time to settle on
- 7:46

- GameClubFan_728650
- How much is the player in control over the whole thing? There is talk of fate and foreshadowing and the like but with the multichoice moments in the game its creates an interesting little contradiction

- Syd
- Hehe, "love polygon"
- 7:55

- cc_jake, cc_tamas: How important do you think it is to be American to play this game? It seems engrained into the whole thing with the constant imagery, It seems that every scene revels in the old nostalgia of Americana.
- 8:03
- Cheeseness
- dylemacgregor: Ah, I disagree. It looks horrible.
- 8:03
