  1. Dimensions
  2.
  3. The thing to understand about dimensions is that we can only perceive things in the 3 dimension.
  4.
  5. We know that there are 3 dimensions, and that they exist, that’s for sure.
  6.
  7. There is that first dimension, which is “The plane which exists between two points.” Basically, it’s a
  8.
  9. line that is drawn. This line has no thickness, and no thinness. For all we know, it doesn’t exist. But
  10.
  11. at the time, it does (WTF!)
  12.
  13. Now, we move onto two dimensions, which is “the plane which exists between three points.” So if
  14.
  15. we add another point to that line, we get a triangle (a basic polygon). The second dimension exists,
  16.
  17. basically, on a piece of paper, which has no depth or anything. This paper has no thickness AT ALL.
  18.
  19. So we can’t comprehend it, because we live in the 3d plane.
  20.
  21. But what is the 3D plane?
  22.
  23. This means that that 2d triangle we had, now has a surface. It exists on its own, and not on that 2d
  24.
  25. plane that we have. It has contours, a surface, and now it has turned into a 3D plane.
  26.
  27. Have I lost you so far? If I have, then I apologize, but this is pretty simple physics, and if you find this
  28.
  29. difficult, then you might not want to read on.
  30.
  31. Brace yourself (I can barely understand this, and yet I am going to explain it!)
  32.
  33. The fourth dimension, because we can only see the third, is the dimension which we think exists, but
  34.
  35. probably doesn’t.
  36.
  37. If we say that the first 3 dimensions are spatial dimensions, that is , they all involve space and
  38.
  39. objects.
  40.
  41. If we add the Fourth Dimension, the space/objects that are created from the first three dimensions
  42.
  43. are manipulated, and the space turns into space-time.
  44.
  45. The easiest way to explain it is that 4D is the duration of the 3D object as it travels through space.
  46.
  47. 1D is length.
  48.
  49. 2D is width.
  50.
  51. 3D is depth.
  52.
  53. 4D is duration.
  54.
  55. Now, let’s move onto 5D.
  56.
  57. This is a magnification of 4D, and it is the MULTIVERSE.
  58.
  59. This is when multiple universes are created when a choice occurs. All of the possibilities that could
  60.
  61. happen create another universe, and since there is an infinite amount of probabilities, it creates an
  62.
  63. infinite amount of universes every second. We can’t comprehend all of this, and so we can only see
  64.
  65. one universe, one choice, with one occurrence.
  66.
  67. 5D is possibility.
  68.
  69. So now, let’s take a look at the Tesseract.
  70.
  71. The Tesseract
  72.
  73. Remember at the end? That confusing jumble of theoretical physics that Christopher Nolan through
  74.
  75. at us? And how he mistakably said that it is love which saves mankind?
  76.
  77. (In truth, it’s just quantum dimensions.)
  78.
  79. The tesseract that is shown in the film is of Murph’s room, and shows all possible choices that she
  80.
  81. could have made. Now that we know that 5 dimensions is just an infinite amount of universes, we
  82.
  83. can now understand that all of those rooms are all different, parallel universes. Cooper
  84.
  85. communicates through space-time waves, as he manipulates the fourth dimension when he is in the
  86.
  87. fifth ( much like us (3D) folding a piece of paper(2D). The tesseract is just an infinite area filled with
  88.
  89. all of the universes of Murph’s room.
  90.
  91. In summary, the first dimension is length, the second width, the third is depth, followed by the
  92.
  93. fourth dimension which is duration, and the fifth dimension, which is possibility.
  94.
  95. The tesseract is a 5D area with multiple universes which are in Murph’s bedroom, and Cooper must
  96.
  97. communicate through the fourth dimension of space-time (i.e. gravity).
  98.
  99. Hopefully, this makes complete sense to you, and will help you to understand “Interstellar” better.
