- An Act to reorganise the Irish Air Corps and include newly acquired aircraft
- ---
- WHEREAS the Department of Defence has recently acquired five multirole fighter aircraft and ten trainer aircraft,
- AND WHEREAS the Irish Air Corps must be reorganised in accordance with its new abilities,
- ---
- *Be it enacted by the Oireachtas as follows:*
- #I. Definitions
- 1. Threat means any thing or person who causes harm or is close to cause harm to the Republic of Ireland.
- 3. Enemy target means any person, group of persons, object or infrastructure which belongs to an organization in conflict with the Republic of Ireland.
- #II. Reorganisation of the Irish Air Corps
- 1. 106 Squadron is established. It shall be part of the No. 1 Operational Wing.
- (a) 106 Squadron is equipped with five General Dynamics F-16D Fighting Falcon multirole fighters.
- 2. 107 Squadron is established. It shall be part of the No. 1 Operational Wing.
- (a) 107 Squadron is equipped with ten Raytheon T-1 Jayhawk trainer aircraft.
- #III. Missions of the 106 Squadron
- 106 Squadron shall fulfil the following missions:
- 1. Surveillance of Irish airspace and Irish borders, in coordination with other Irish Air Corps units and An Garda Síochána,
- 2. Elimination of any threat for Ireland, Ireland's territory, Ireland's infrastructures or Irish citizens,
- 3. Close air support to Irish troops or allied troops,
- 4. Air interdiction against enemy targets,
- 5. Military intelligence collection, in coordination with the Directorate of Military Intelligence.
- #IV. Missions of the 107 Squadron
- 1. 107 Squadron aircraft shall primarily serve to Flying Training School training program.
- 2. 107 Squadron aircraft shall secondary serve to Irish Defence Forces and Emergency Aeromedical Service airlift, transport and evacuation missions, and to 102 Squadron's Ministerial Air Transport Service.
- #V. Title and Enactment
- (a) This bill shall be cited as the "Irish Air Corps Reorganisation Act, 2016".
- (b) This bill shall commence immediately days after its passing through the Dáil.
