  1. what kind of stuff should i be prepared for?
  2. like technical questions, company specific questions
  3.
  4. Mysql
  5. yo im sure youll wreck it
  6. but like know the basics of mysql
  7. like tables
  8. and keys
  9. also i got asked some networking questions
  10. like when you type in a url, what actually happens
  11. for you to get the page on your laptop
  12. also some really basic questions like what is a class and a subclass
  13. they never asked me to code anything in front of them, just describe things
  14. also they asked me if i was for open-source
  15. and the correct answer is yes
  16. when used properly
  17. cus bny mellon is embracing using open source libraries like apache hadoop, apache kafka
  18. theres not too much proprietary tech
  19. but you have to also say that theres a balance between using open source and keeping company secrets secret
  20. so like ideally things should be completely transparent within the company, but the barrie between company and the outide has to be well-maintained
  21. but that was a minor question
  22. brush up on mysql
  23. also you may want to lrn how hadoop works (hdfs and mapreduce)
  24.
  25. thanks. howd you learn mysql?
  26.
  27. mayeb some R
  28. too
  29. you can use this
  30. http://sqlzoo.net/wiki/Main_Page
  31. but i think its less important to know the syntax
  32. than to know if given some data
  33. how would you set up your mysql tables to make things easy
  34.
  35. you learned hadoop and stuff after you got there right? basically they trained you?
  36.
  37. i just did all the tutoiral stuff in my first few days
  38. was basically yah go lrn some hadoop
  39. and i go google how to hadoop
  40. not much training
  41. also the hadoop shiz was cu si was a big data intern
  42. roles can vary
  43. so hadoop probs only applicable if you wanna big data intern
  44.
  45. How was your internship there?
  46.
  47. i disliked the cubicles
  48. also your internship experience will be vastly different from mine bc i was in boston
  49. 2 interns in boston vs 30 or so in nyc
  50.
  51. oshit megusta
  52. whatd you like?
  53.
  54. the best thing about it was the people i met
  55. not my immediate group but other people
  56. i asked this asian dude to be my mentor and he gave me so much lifeadvice
  57. also met the dude who does all the posters and photoshop for the building and he took me shopping to get professional clothes
  58. and also is a side personal trainer so he wrote me workout plan
  59. also we designed my business cards together and he printed me like 500 of them for free
  60. and also introduced me to his tailor and go tme free tailoring
  61. but these are very specific experiences that you probably wont have lol
  62.
  63. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  64.
  65. but youll have other interns
  66. i didnt
  67. which is why i bonded with oldpeople
  68. i think wouldve liked it much better if id have been in nyc with the other interns
  69.
  70. I want to get free stuff and advice
  71.
  72. they super cool
  73. i still go back to visit them
  74.
  75. What are you planning for this summer?
  76.
  77. we have drinks in the tailor's office every few weeks
  78. idk
  79. a tech startup
  80.
  81.
  82. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 6:35 PM
  83.
  84. pretty sure
  85. i've just gone and bombed the interview
  86. absolutely zero technical questions
  87. something like describe softdev life cycle, what do you do when a technical problem comes up, the 3 things people would describe you as
  88. describe something you made better / faster / smarter / cheaper
  89.
