  1. Brooke says: (10:50:40 PM)
  2. I am in need of reality check
  3.
  4. Brooke says: (10:51:04 PM)
  5. which basically means that with your permission I will splurge at you and you will give a grounded opinion
  6.
  7. Brooke says: (10:51:07 PM)
  8. or a slap in the face
  9.
  10. Andrew says: (10:51:14 PM)
  11. okay
  12.
  13. Brooke says: (10:51:22 PM)
  14. see last time I lacked a reality check I asked Ben out soooo :P
  15.
  16. Andrew says: (10:52:51 PM)
  17. lol!
  18.
  19. Andrew says: (10:52:52 PM)
  20. continue
  21.
  22. Brooke says: (10:55:56 PM)
  23. Okay. So background story is I have been feeling a low self-esteem in regards to relationships. After the line up of guys I have rejected (Stephen) and the Ben incident I have realised that I'm a perfectionist who could only be satisfied with fictional characters (who obviously don't exist in the real world). So I have resigned myself to being single and work towards being happy being single.
  24.
  25. Brooke says: (10:56:55 PM)
  26. So then emo-goth guy upstairs invites me up to his room and suggests we go out for tea, and he is being friendly (although intermittently sarcastic).
  27.
  28. Brooke says: (10:57:44 PM)
  29. i don't think he is interested in me in a dating sense. He says he just gets on better with girls. Which is fine because I get on better with guys and I don't want to date any of those!
  30.
  31. Brooke says: (10:59:03 PM)
  32. But I find myself second-guessing whether he interested or not, perhaps in a way I am measuring my self-worth and datability through whether someone as smart as him is interested in me.
  33.
  34. Brooke says: (10:59:14 PM)
  35. End splurg.
  36.
  37. Brooke says: (10:59:15 PM)
  38. :P
  39.
  40. Andrew says: (10:59:22 PM)
  41. OK well
  42.
  43. Andrew says: (11:00:59 PM)
  44. In response to the first part, while working on being happy single is a fantastic thing to do - probably the most healthy thing anybody can do - it's probably stupid to be 21 and writing yourself off as forever alone
  45.
  46. Andrew says: (11:01:27 PM)
  47. Especially since the last fictional character you dated went a little crazy and wrote himself out of the book.
  48.
  49. Brooke says: (11:02:07 PM)
  50. You mean Edward Cullen Deighton right?
  51.
  52. Andrew says: (11:02:13 PM)
  53. Yes lol
  54.
  55. Brooke says: (11:02:18 PM)
  56. LOL!
  57.
  58. Andrew says: (11:05:02 PM)
  59. Now, emo-goth guy is probably not interested in you if he actually said that he just gets on better with girls (and there is a small chance he is gay because a) emo-goth and b) gets along better with girls by default). Though there's nothing to be lost from going to tea with him.
  60.
  61. Andrew says: (11:05:04 PM)
  62.  If he actually IS interested in you then you'll just have to let him down (you have practice in this area :P) but also you may find that you actually could be interested in him too and just don't know it yet
  63.
  64. Andrew says: (11:05:24 PM)
  65. and the alternative (and probably more likely) outcome is that you will make a friend in Newcastle :)
  66.
  67. Brooke says: (11:05:58 PM)
  68. *happy sigh* See. This is why the world needs more people like you in it.
  69.
  70. Brooke says: (11:06:01 PM)
  71. Thanks :)
  72.
  73. Andrew says: (11:06:19 PM)
  74. No worries :D
  75.
  76. Andrew says: (11:07:09 PM)
  77. Oh also in relation to measuring your self-worth and datability, my guess is that you are overthinking it, which you do have a tendency to do :P
