a guest Jun 19th, 2015 5 Never
  1. (17:21:25) ‹+Bloom› i was just watching attack of the show, they referred to "4chan" and "Anonymous" as "hacker groups"
  2. (17:21:28) ‹+Bloom› im still laughing
  3. (17:21:34) ‹+AoC› http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DW31upNEEg
  4. (17:21:44) ‹+Bloom› no publicity is bad publicity though i guess
  5. (17:22:26) ‹+Kyoubro› That's assuming we have something we want to advertise.
  6. (17:22:38) ‹+Kyoubro› Until we start making money off this, we don't.
  7. (17:22:50) ‹+AoC› 4chan's decline is directly linked to it becoming widely known, so in this case it might not be good
  8. (17:23:16) ‹+fsdfdsf› The less people talk about 4chan the better if you ask me
  9. (17:23:25) ‹+Bloom› its decline is because old users treat new users with disdain
  10. (17:23:41) ‹+Bloom› also the ratio of users to mods has only gotten worse as time went on afaik
  11. (17:23:53) ‹+Kyoubro› Its decline is because the staff haven't grown to meet the demands of the userbase.
  12. (17:24:45) ‹+Bloom› AoC this music video
  13. (17:24:47) ‹+Bloom› its tops dude
  14. (17:24:49) ‹+Azatsu› You've shown me the example of that starcraft forum, didn't you, kyoubro?
  15. (17:25:12) ‹+Kyoubro› Only instance I can think of where content level remained about the same during massive growth was TeamLiquid, which within the space of a couple months increased its modcount by 2-3x and enforced all rules much more strictly.
  16. (17:25:16) ‹+Kyoubro› Exactly, Azatsu.
  17. (17:25:39) ‹+Kyoubro› And by Nazimodding, they managed to keep things at about the right level.
  18. (17:26:03) ‹+Bloom› my point was just you can't blame new users for making the site shit when the old users didn't even try to acclimate them, nobody even says lurk moar anymore
  19. (17:26:09)  » Join: Aerolite ‹~Aerolite@Rizon-F838D72D.socal.res.rr.com›
  20. (17:26:09)  » ChanServ ‹+v› Aerolite
  21. (17:26:29) ‹+fsdfdsf› they do on /a/ bloom, they do on /a/
  22. (17:26:34) ‹+Kyoubro› Yup
  23. (17:26:44) ‹+fsdfdsf› the problem is no one listens
  24. (17:27:02) ‹+Kyoubro› But beyond just community effort to forcefully integrate new members, you need to have support from the moderation team.
  25. (17:27:06) ‹+Bloom› /a/ has less off topic posting than /v/ or /tv/ too, so it does help
  26. (17:27:13)  » Quit: ~moots ‹moots@the.run› ‹Remote host closed the connection›
  27. (17:27:22) ‹+fsdfdsf› I agree with kyoubro
  28. (17:27:28) ‹+Kyoubro› We have less SHITTY off-topic posting.
  29. (17:27:32) ‹+Bloom› from what i can tell most of /a/'s problems are with people just not liking what other people like
  30. (17:27:34) ‹+AoC› new blood is necessary and the best you can do is to educate the newcomers so there's no friction
  31. (17:27:45) ‹+fsdfdsf› It's not even really that bloom
  32. (17:27:52) ‹AstronautBear› bring back lurk moar 2012
  33. (17:28:04) ‹+Bloom› i hope thats the 1bn news update
  34. (17:28:05) ‹+AoC› one thing that has always bothered me is the oldfag/newfag thing
  35. (17:28:11) ‹+Bloom› its just a global message saying "LURK MOAR FAGET"
  36. (17:28:21) ‹+AoC› at least now people are starting to say only newfags say newfag
