Yagyuu and Hibari Play Vidya

Hibari had spent the better part of her day trying to get past a tough section in a game. What was more embarrassing for her was that it was right at the beginning. She had played lots of games before and had always struggled then persevered through the tough times even when she played 'Shinobi Gaiden Omega' but this was different. This game belonged to a genre Hibari wasn't familiar with but it was a classic she was assured through word of mouth and reviews was a survival horror masterpiece: 'Silent Evil 2'

 

"I can't believe it!" Hibari's cheeks were puffed. She'd never been angry at a game before but now she was getting frustrated. "They got me again!"

 

Sensing her dear friends suffering Yagyuu raced over and snatched the seat next to Hibari "Combat should be no problem for a shinobi."

 

"I know but this game is hard" Hibari pouted "Besides they say you should avoid combat in these games."

 

"It is wise to conserve your energy" Yagyuu mused to herself. "Still we can beat this together!"

 

"Okay next time I die-" Hibari died in the game "-Okay you take over."

 

Yagyuu was handed the controller and she took over. She toyed with the analogue stick but the character on screen didn't react as would be expected. Hibari told her the game had 'tank controls' and that Yagyuu would have to guide her movements carefully "Who would make something so devious? How did people play these games back then?" Yagyuu slowly adapted to tapping the character around. Yagyuu then noticed this was a lot different to games Hibari played.

 

It was dark and the character was trapped in the dark never knowing what was around the corner. There was also odd noises that had Yagyuu on edge. Hibari had her knees together and was clearly expected something to jump out. It only got worse when Yagyuu moved down a hallway past a door that shook and buckled against something on the other side. She could hear its groans and knew it was ready to break free. Yagyuu gulped and pushed her character forward.

 

At the end of the hallway Yagyuu turned and Hibari gave a tell that something was about to happen. As Yagyuu rounded the corner the windows crashed open and both glass and enemies poured onto the floor. Hibari squeaked and Yagyuu curled into herself. Both girls were startled. Hibari had seen this at least fifty times and was still scared. Yagyuu looked at the screen with a blank face but fear in her heart.

 

She faced down the dreaded Dog-Nurses! Were they Dobermans in nurse outfits or sexy nurses that looked after dogs? The game presented the enemies in such a way that it was really up to interpretation. Yagyuu panicked and struggled to find the button to raise her weapon and fire. Her aim was wobbly and she expended her ammunition without killing a single target. It was too late for her and she got a game over. She kept a cool expression on her face even though she was shivering. "Hibari? Is this one of those horror games?"

 

"Yeah isn't it spooky!?" Hibari cheered. This isn't what Yagyuu wanted to hear. She was deathly afraid of horror movies. And amusement park rides. Hated them. Yagyuu gripped the controller and Hibari could hear the strain. "You don't have to play it if you don't want I can finish it by myself."

 

"N-No." Yagyuu choked "I'll do this for you." Yagyuu hit continue and fumbled around with her character. She nervously crept around the halls and slowly made her way back just to die once more. Her shaking became even more noticeable but she was determined to win. So she went back again and again. Hibari would shriek at the glass shattering and Yagyuu would die in the game. Over and over again.

 

Yagyuu's palms were sweaty and she was so unsettled the controller would sometimes slip out of her grip but she continued on and finally in a Zen moment she took down the Dog-Nurses. Hibari cheered and gave Yagyuu a big hug for a job well done. Yagyuu felt the fear wash away and she was happy to finally won the most important thing of all: her friends admiration.

 

"Let's keep going and finish it together!" Hibari hurrah'd.

 

Yagyuu went stiff as she realised it wasn't over "Well sure it's near the end right?"

 

"Nah, this is just the first encounter." Hibari smiled "Let's keep going. I'll take over on next death okay?"

 

Yagyuu felt her strength fade but she couldn't let her friend down. She pushed forward and after some puzzles found herself in a giant room filled with water that was home to great white sharks "Why would they have sharks indoors?" She stuttered.

 

"Oh silly this is all taking place in the protagonists mind everything in the game is supposed to inform you about the deep seated traumas your character is experiencing." Hibari scratched her head "Or at least that's what everyone online says."

 

"Who would think of sharks of all things?" Yagyuu groaned. She moved forward and right as one of the sharks latched onto her character and gave it a gruesome death Yagyuu knew this was the next roadblock. Hibari offered to take over but Yagyuu latched onto the controller "I can do this. For you."
