Shiki is Rin's Matchmaker

Rin had been down in the dumps lately. She would mutter to herself about how alone she was and how she was getting older. It worried everybody so Shiki took it upon herself to help Rin out. She couldn't just stand by and just watch people mope like that and so Shiki confronted Rin and found out that she felt lonely. She didn't have time to go out and date anyone and even though she had held out for Kiriya he wouldn't make a move.

 

Shiki had her answer. She'd help Rin find someone. 'I'll help you get back on the path to happiness!' Shiki whooped. The young Shinobi ran off to play matchmaker. First she'd make a list of potential mates. Yumi and Yozakura couldn't be trusted and Murakumo kept suggesting Rin hook up with Kotarō or Kagerō. Minori was out of the question. If none of her team mates could help her then Shiki would rely on her knowledge base.

 

So she put her phone to her ear and called everyone. Everyone. Mizuho, Meg, Yaeko, Shizue, Rei, Hitomi, Akko, Anna, Harue, Yuria; ever girl she knew got a phone call. It took forever but Shiki eventually found a good candidate. She was dead tired by the end and she fell backwards onto her bed and rolled onto her pillow 'Alright Rin, I'm gonna make you happy!' she told herself.  

 

A few days later Shiki arranged to meet Rin in town. 'I think I've found your man!' Shiki had a huge smile and expected Rin to reciprocate her excitement.

 

'You what?' Rin was stunned.

 

'Yeah! I showed him your picture and it was like love at first sight and stuff!' Shiki took Rin's hands and jumped on the spot out of joy.

 

'You showed some man my picture?' Rin was outraged 'It wasn't taken from my bad side was it?'

 

Shiki skirted around the issue 'Um, look it's fine! It was a really good picture and even dating websites need you to post one to get anywhere!'

 

'Dating websites? They have those?' This was all new to Rin and she wondered just how much of life she's missed out on 'It's too late for me to get mixed up in this kind of thing!'

 

'He's a really cool guy! He's super sweet and cool and stuff!' Shiki took out her phone and showed Rin a picture of her potential date.

 

Rin remained stubborn 'He doesn't look all that special.'

 

Shiki still put up a fight. She knew she had to pull Rin out of this funk. 'I totally had him checked out! I wouldn't introduce a guy without a second opinion from the rest of the girls!'

 

'The other girls?' Rin looked ready to sob and she buried her face into her palms 'How embarrassing!'

 

'Wait! They all said he was really good!' Shiki pleaded her case. 'Murasaki said he smelled good, he survived a training session with Daidouji, he resisted Haruka's temptations and Yozakura was surprised when he actually got Minori to bed on time!' In Shiki's eyes he'd passed the emotional test, physical test, fidelity test and was totes fatherhood material. He was the best choice for Rin. 'And when we went to Hanzo's for futomaki I caught them both high-fiving when us girls were eating so they get along too!'

 

'Shiki...' Rin wanted to correct Shiki about that last part but on the other hand this guy sounded tempting. There was one loose end though 'What about Kiriya?'

 

'He had his chances! Go for the new hotness!' Shiki roared.

 

Rin still dragged her feet 'But why does he want me and not you girls?'

 

'T he h e a r t w a n t s w h a t i t w a n t s' Shiki explained. Not caring whether Rin even understood English. 'He picked you! That's what matters!'

 

Rin caved 'Okay, I'll give him a shot.'

 

'Yes!' Shiki leaped into Rin's arms and gave her a tight hug 'Oh! Do you have a nice outfit? We could go shopping together! And get our hair done!' Shiki grabbed Rin's hand and pulled her towards the shopping mall. With the date set up it would be up to Rin from here on in but Shiki's intuition told her that Rin would be okay. As long as Rin got her confidence back she'd finally be able to be the woman she was meant to be and who knows it might work out. Shiki would have to to thank Yaeko later maybe even offer to pay for a day at the spa together if it goes well.

 

'I told you I'd make you happy!' Shiki boasted.
